The BEST sandals going - my Chacos are retired
I've been wearing Chacos religiously since early 2007 (I've had 5 or 6 pairs) and these Bedrocks have completely converted me. Over the past 7 or 8 years I've transitioned into zero-drop shoes almost entirely and each season the Chacos have felt heavier and less comfortable; they're more comfortable at first, but oddly my feet tire while wearing them now - I really need zero-drop and more minimal sole now. My feet don't tire in the Bedrocks. Discovering these was fantastic. The huarache style (with flip-flop toe hook) may not appeal to some - it definitely didn't to me - but I urge you to try it first. I ordered a pair of Cairn Geos (the brown ones pictured above) and half expected to return them for that reason, but they feel *nothing* like flip-flops and I'd say my foot feels just as secure, maybe moreso, than in Chacos. They are nearly half the weight of (see the third phot - weight shown in grams), they're zero-drop heel, *very* flexible, vibram soled, super secure on the foot, super *adjustible* on the foot, and they go on and off even easier. I liked the Cairn Geos so much I ordered this pair of Cairn 3D the very next week. The "3D footbed" is much, much less pronounced than the Chaco molded footbed (drastically so) but just enough; there's is a bit more material, a hint of arch support, a slight ridge behind the toes for grip, and the edges of the footbed are very slightly raised, but it's *still* a zero-drop heel. My Cairn Geos (the brown ones in photos) are the standard original footbed and are entirely flat (and lighter as shown); honestly I like both equally but really appreciate the 3D footbed for that tread style since it's the one I use for more active hikes and "off-road" activities. The difference is very subtle but the Geos feel a bit more "casual" and the 3D feels a little more "sporty" on the foot (very subtle).
Great Sandals but not for wide feet
I purchased these hoping to make the switch from Chaco to Bedrock. I love Chaco but wanted the zero drop and lighter design that these offer. My feet are about 4.5" wide and 11" long. I ordered a size 11 (mens) and the sandals are just too narrow for me feet. Since there are no wide sizes available I will have to return these. The sandals feel excellent and very stable. If there were a wide size, I'd probably make the switch.
Never going back to shoes!!
I cant begin to explain how much I love these shoes. I have never worn sandals before thought i would give these a try and I havnt taken them off since! I have not only worn these hiking some long difficult trail miles in these but these are the only shoe I wear most of the year. They were the only shoe i brought for a two week road trip through the tetons yellowstone and glacier. In which I did some very technical hiking and the bedrocks stuck to everything and were so conferrable. A few people claim they are unstable and they hurt there feet but these are the same people who hike in ankle boots and simply have week feet and ankles.
Nice and simple, but fit is mediocre
I've worn these on a ten or so 5-10mi hikes and overall they are a pretty decent minimal hiking sandal. The sole is nice and grippy and they provide a surprising amount of protection from pressure bruises on the soles of your feet. However, and this could just be me, but straps do a very poor job keeping your foot in place; even tightened down my feet always seemed to slide forward leaving my toes to hand off over the edge (very bad if theres a lot of rocks around). They also have a tendency to make the soles of your feet sweaty, which makes slide side to side on uneven terrain. The main point: these sandals are not worth the price
Killer Shoes!
I began running in 'low-profile' shoes about six years ago and three years ago, while finishing up college, I purchased a pair of Bedrock Adventure Sandals (3Ds). Now three years after the purchase I have gone over 600 miles in those sandals, being an intermediate/amateur runner, and have enjoyed the shoes at every moment. The only "Con" I can think of is the Velcro on the strap wears out after about 2 years of intermittent running, but if you or your partner can sow, you can swap out the old Velcro for new Velcro fairly cheaply. I highly recommend these sandals and will definitely be getting another pair soon.
The best outdoor sandals ever!
I'm a full-time traveller and have been for the last 6 years. I've gone through all the sandals–chacos, tevas, merrell, etc–and I can easily say these are my favorites. I bought them before a 6 month trip to South America (Peru & Chile), Panama and Costa Rica and they got the most action by far. I'd often decide to wear these instead of my hiking boots. They are holding up beautifully and will be with me as I head to Southeast Asia next. Not only are they comfortable, durable and versatile but they are lightweight for traveling and attractive so I don't look like a complete goober. Seriously awesome sandals!
Perfect if Better Straps
I really like the rubber grips and the thickness of these sandals. But because of that, these tend to be a bit stiff and heavy. So these sandals are asking a lot on the toe strap to hold up the front of the sandals, which can wear on your toe webbing. Also, the straps are not very soft. I've seen other sandals that use softer (yet still strong) straps that do not scratch your feet with every step. If these came with softer straps that fastened over the toes rather than between the toes, they would be perfect for river trekking. I would only recommend for those that have a tough toe webbing or callus to withstand the rough materials.
Straps need redesigning…
Straps are rough. Made out of webbing material and rub the foot raw. I like the soul. Zero drop. Nice look. Just poor design.
Good sandals with 1 issue
My wife bought a pair of the 3D Bedrock sandals for my birthday a year ago (from REI). I wore it everywhere. I love fly fishing so it was great being able to hike to streams and walk right in. But there is one big issue for me: the bungee cord they use, that goes in between your toes. When I’m out hiking on rougher trails and my foot slides a bit, the bungee cord puts pressure on the inside of my toes and occasionally, I get a shooting pain. I’ve never had this happen with any other sandal. These are good sandals that are comfortable and has plenty of grip on the trail. But sadly didn’t work out for me and now they’re just sitting in the garage. I’m using Luna sandals now and they are working out great.
Falling apart
I absolutely love them until they started to fall apart after the first serious hike. Hopefully will be an easy exchange.
