Compact and Easy But Overpriced

On the fence with this. It looked perfect for the dogs at the campsite. Was going to get 2 but glad I started with just the one. While it's compact and I love the red and it's easy to rig up, as soon as I did I felt like a goof because I immediately realized it's nothing you can't rig up on your own with an existing line and two carabiners for like $15 bucks. Also, this rope curls uncontrollably no matter how straight you have it when wrapping it back up to put away. Still, this is compact and easy to throw in with the rest of the gear. Something to consider as a dog parent, I do worry how it will hold if say another dog or something comes around and the dog on the line isn't having it, which happens, and they pull really hard. Any dog over 50lbs could probably pull hard enough to rip it off if they really wanted to. If this were priced at maybe $35 I'd be happier with my purchase and not have buyer's remorse. But even on sale it was like $52. If I didn't already get it dirty and glad it was compact I'd probably be returning it.

Great Product!

This tether system is super! For our first time use we hooked it up between two trees that were pretty far apart. It was simple to attach with the easy to follow instructions. The swivel clip that's on the cord is great because it doesn't allow our dog to get tangled up. Our dog is about 80lbs and, to date, has not really tested the strength of the system just yet. It's highly recommended that a harness (our photo has our dog wearing a collar because I wanted to get a few quick photos for the review) is used and it would probably be best if a bungee type leash was used as well, one with a little elasticity to it. This is a great addition to the bag for camping trips or whatever. Buy it now!

Great product!

We are big campers and have struggled with the rules of keeping our dogs leashed at a campsite (we don't have a problem with the leashing, it's just logistly it's a pain). We had done run lines before with rope or 550 cord but it was always a lot of work and hard to get back down when we were done. This product was a game changer. The dogs don't get tangled up anymore and have more freedom of movement! Both of our dogs are about 80 lbs, highly active and we had no issues with them pulling the line down or loosening it.

Great addition to my camping kit

Great for camping in the woods! I have a Tibetan Mastiff and it held him just fine. Felt like it held strong (once you get the hang of cinching it up) and the latch you attach the leash to is strong.

Easy to set up!

I debated for some time whether to purchase this or not. Surely one could assemble a similar system at less cost using slings, carabiners, etc right? I did the math and this great kit was still the best value! It’s secure and versatile. Also, it’s got everything you need right out of its handy stuff sack. I have no criticisms. I just wish there were more trees where I live in Arizona so I could use it more!

I love it...dogs love it

As an avid camper (car and backpacking) who takes my 2 dogs everywhere, this product has been a great, albeit heavy, addition to our outdoor adventures. It's very easy to set up and affords my dogs the ability to explore a little while I'm setting up camp. It then gives them the freedom to roam a bit all during our camping trip. I have one for each dog (golden retriever and coonhound) and it works well for each of them. I have had no issues with the rope twisting or tangling as another reviewer mentioned, and set up is a breeze. Additionally, I have used these at home in the yard between trees, attached to the garage door rails, tree to light post, etc. Always easy set up/take down and works well. Other campers always ask me about them and 2 neighbors have since purchased since seeing my dogs attached to theirs. SUPER OVERPRICED! (Hence the 4 stars.) But still recommend.

Effective!

My husband said, "oh I can make that, don't spend money on that". Come to find out he would have spent equal if not more to get everything to create our own. This system has done it for you and made it compact and easy to take everywhere! Well worth it for simplisities sake.

Awesome gear! 100% recommended.

I bought this a week ago before a camping trip to Oak Grove. I have a young beagle puppy who is really energetic. He just can’t stop exploring while he’s outside. I actually was pretty worried about the situation that I have to camp with my beagle since he will definitely run away once unleashed. I found this product on REI online. I read the reviews and decided to give it a try. It turned out extremely good. It’s fairly easy to set up requiring 2 trees in the campsite. It provides plenty of space for my dog to explore while keeping him safe. Good design. Awesome product.

Cord Snapped After 2 Hours of Use

This showed up and was excited to use it. As some people pointed out, the cord is not extremely long, so is only useful where you have trees or other tether spots grouped closely together. After about 2 hours of use on a camping trip, the cord snapped. My dog is about 65 lbs, so not tiny but not a massive dog either. Unfortunately REI does not have this in stock so looks like it's getting returned but not replaced. Hopefully I got a defective unit and this is not indicative of the general quality of this item.

no more dog worries

My dog goes everywhere with me - and he’s rarely on leash, but tends to be a wanderer at times if I’m not paying attention. When we’re at a park, or at our campsite this makes it so I have absolutely no worries of him wandering off! It works great between trees as well as a long leash just in the backyard. I loved it so much I gifted it to my friends who live in an RV and they love it!
