2 boat loaders is better than one.
I already had a boat loader that made it fairly easy for me to get a 75 lb tandem kayak onto my car’s roof rack. When I bought another kayak, a single person boat weighing only 54 lbs, I thought I would just lift it up overhead and place it in the J cradles I installed at one edge of the roof rack. It turned out to be nearly impossible, not because it was too heavy, but because there was no place to grasp and balance the boat to lift it high enough and place it in the cradles. A review of advice on You Tube was no help for getting the new boat into the J cradles. I installed a second boat loader and now it’s easy.
Great accessory for loading kayaks
Important accessory for those of us who are not tall enough to load kayaks onto the roof of the car. As I’m 5’7”, without this accessory I would not be able to transport my kayaks. Easily installed and engineered for the Yakima corebar cross bars. The reason for not rating it as a five is that one of them became twisted in my cross bar, requiring replacements for both the core bar as well as the boatloader. However this was covered by the Yakima warranty for which they graciously shipped me complimentary replacements.
Great product, works as expected.
This device makes it easy for me to get my 14' sea kayak loaded onto the top of my car by myself. Essentially, it reduces the lifting load by about half, so at any given time, I only need to lift half of the boat's weight.
Great idea! Difficult glide on old round bars.
It is a very clever design and allowed me to load and unload my kayak by myself. My only concern is that it does not glide easily. It takes a lot of effort to pull it out and push it back into place. Pacific Rack installed it for me and applied some plumber's grease to improve the glide. Apparently, my old round bars are rusted inside and affecting the movement.I like that it is attached and easy to use. I hope adding more grease will gradually improve the glide.
Loading as easy as it gets
For my wife and I, on the short side of height, it has been difficult to haul our kayaks to the top of our full-sized truck onto JayLow kayak carriers. I purchased two Boatloaders, one for the front and rear of our rooftop Yakima Tower and round bar rack system. This is how we get our boats up on the rack. First, we rest the the front of the kayak on the front, extended, Boatloader. Next, I hold up the back of the kayak and my wife extends the rear Boatloader underneath, where it rests before the last step. Finally, I slide the kayak sideways onto the JayLow brackets. Taking the kayak off is simply the kayak onto the the front an rear extended Boatloaders and doing the reverse of the instructions above. Although it's still not easy, this is the easiest way we've found to load our boats onto our truck. The bracket is stronger than you expect and easy to use.
