According to the size chart, I take size L. I called Rei to ask about this since I usually would order size M. They advised L, but just to be sure I ordered both L and M. L was ridiculously roomy. M fits fine even though my waist is 34”.

New gen shorts have bad fly zipper
big pebble
I have been wearing these Zoic Ether shorts now for years, they are hands-down my favorite mountain biking shorts. I have had zero complaints to date. I love the length, the cut, the fit, and the hardware, as well as the variety of colors. Adjustability and a plethora of pockets put these things over the top to 5-star shorts. The few pairs that I had were getting a little worn out, so I thought I would get a few new pairs. So I recently ordered a pair in the digital camo, and noticed that the new models seem to be a little different. No carabiner in the right zip pocket to secure my keys, and they feel a little slimmer and a little shorter. Nothing that I couldn’t deal with, though. However, on the first two rides with the new shorts, the zipper on the fly just popped open arbitrarily. It zipped back up, after zipping it down and up again, but clearly there was something wrong there. I’m hoping it is an isolated incident and after I return them, I will order another pair. Until then, I am giving them two stars with the ability to bump back up to five. Edit/Update: The fly zipper on these next gen shorts is shiite. It has failed on every new pair I've bought, and they've all been returned. Zoic needs to go back to their previous zipper vendor or find something new. In the meantime, I'm rocking my old pairs until I find another alternative. The Patagonia Dirt Roamer shorts aren't even an option because one zippered pocket, seriously?

Bad Zipper; poor waist-tightening system

Very poor quality zipper that failed me after a wear count of less than 30 times. The velcro tab for cinching the waist is a poor design as it induces uncomfortable bunching up at both hips, yet you're reliant on that system because their design doesn't allow for a belt to be worn, which would be an acceptable alternative. Wished I could return it and I will be contacting REI to see whether I can return it given the inconvenience of Covid.

Low Qual Zipper

Good fit, cloth, pockets, etc. Main zipper never worked quite right and in short order failed completely.

Cheaply Made, Falls Apart

I have purchased two pairs of these shorts. Both have multiple loose threads and stitching defects. Both pairs pairs developed holes in the first two months. Yes, these are cheaper than other MTB shorts but you get what you pay for. The most expensive clothing is clothing that doesn’t last.

Great shorts if they fit

I have two pairs of Zoic Ether shorts,XL. They both fit comfortably with the velcro adjusting straps on the side. I ordered this pair in XL and found them to be two inches narrower in the waist than my other XL Zoic Ether Shorts. Either quality control was off or someone at Zoic decided to reduce the waist side for XL. The shorts still have the same quality and outstanding features like the two pair I have now. I am returning them.

very comfortable and well made shorts

I bought two pairs to wear over my zoic padded shorts. I use them primarily for road and gravel. They are well made and very comfortable. The large size fits me fine at 170 lbs, 5 feet 11 inches with a 33 inch waist. Good quality construction just like the padded shorts. Highly recommended.

Most comfortable bike shell pants ever !!

Super comfortable and quite durable too - will not get all ripped up on a crash. I took out the padded liner it came with and just use a different padded bike short underneath. Love the adjustable velcro waist straps. Tons of pockets to hold keys, tools, food or phone. Size guide seems to be right on. Have 3 pairs of them.
