I've had a number of Camelbaks over the course of the years. Absolutely loved 'em and they're a great design. Took this on a week long climb in Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park. The only thing I disliked was the screw top. For some reason it was difficult to ensure it was truly on and threaded properly. As I mentioned, I've had years of understanding how they work. I screwed the top on, went to lay my pack down to attach other things. Pretty soon I notice my entire backpack was soaked and everything in it! Not good in the backcountry to get an unexpected soaking due to faulty or weird acting gear. Shouldn't be that difficult to know if something is truly screwed on straight! My recommendation, turn it upside down to check for leaking before ever using it. Don't assume the threads work properly!

GREAT Product but Design Incomplete

This was my first reservoir and I honestly love it. In fact, I got it and my friend commented on me being “fancy.” Ha! We went on a five day dessert excursion and we almost used it solely for our hikes. REMEMBER TO CLOSE THE VALVE WHEN NOT USING - you will end up with a car floorboard or tent full of water. Miraculously, it seemed like the water came out of it cooler than it went it (or maybe we were just hot in that dessert heat). Only fault is, it has clips for lashing to an object, but I wish it had a built in “kit” to wear as a lightweight backpack. I mean, I fashioned one out of nylon Paracord, I’m sure Camelback can come out with something better.

Lots of little issues make this not worthwhile

Bought this so my water wouldn't freeze while skiing and stay cold while hiking in the heat. Good: mouth-piece and lock work well. Doesn't drip or anything like that Problems: the water still freezes in the hose so it's not that helpful (and heats up in the hose too). The lid is very difficult to close. Not sure why this is an issue. I have 2 other camelbaks and have never once had an issue but I feel super happy if I can close this in fewer than 3-5 tries. The hose is very likely to kink because of the angle it comes out of the insulation, so I can't use it effectively in most of my backpacks, even the ones designed for a bladder system that work great with other camelbaks.

Excellent hydration bladder.

Keeps ice frozen for around 5 hrs in 90 degrees F compared to 2 hours without the insulated sleeve (attached in the outside of a pack). Easy to fill the bladder with ice and water. You do not have to take the hydration bladder out of the insulated sleeve to fill with water and ice. Large opening and easy to hold handle makes filling very easy. Some have complained about challenges with the screw cap. I suggest marking the screw cap and bladder with a silver sharpie, so you’ll know where to start threading the cap (see photo). Only negative is it takes up more room in your pack, but that’s the trade off for cooler water. We’ve also used it for outdoor concerts, picnics, and it’s excellent for golfing, especially when you walk the course Highly recommend this produce

Hands free hydration for kayaks

I bought this so I could drink hands free while paddling my kayak. I attached it on the deck behind me and clipped the hose to my life jacket so I can tip my mouth down to the bite valve to drink. It's built every bit as good as my other CamelBak that I use for running. I love this Unbottle.

leaks

I got this in March and hike nearly every weekend. I have it some time before I wrote a review to get used to the product. I have been able to lock this bag right like 4 out of 28 times. If it doesn’t lock properly, it leaks down the insulation cloth and sometimes down the front of my shirt. Today, it took me three tries to get it to lock just right. The wet insulation cloth then wets my backpack, which isn’t a big deal in summer, but heading into fall and winter, that’s a problem. I had my old camelbak for like seven years without an issue until it finally leaked. In the past three years, I’ve had a platypus where the straw piece melted making it unusable, and now this leaking problem returning to camelbak. I have purchased all from REI, and they basically shrug and say “talk to the company that makes them, not us” which is also frustrating. What is going on with water bags?

Great for Hiking

I regularly use it with my Osprey pack and have had no leak issues as others have mentioned. My technique is to turn the cap counter-clockwise until it can lay flat and to ensure it engages the threads at the bottom. I then tighten clock-wise and I've never had an issues with leaking. Although it it is rated as 3L, I'm usually only able to fill it to between 2-2.5L. I surmise this is due to the outer insulation that applies some pressure to the bladder. Without the insulation, I assume you could probably fill it close to the rated 3L. The insulation does seem to keep the water colder for longer than without. I usually put in ice cubes into the bladder along with water. I also greatly appreciate the built-in handle which makes filling the bladder to capacity easier. Based on just experience, it seems to keep the water cold for about 6-10 hrs. This will of course vary based on external factors and initial temperature of the water. Overall, I am pleased with my purchase and would recommend it to others.

perfect for Kayaking

Bought this for my husband (ex Cuban National Kayak Team) to use while training for his first competition in 10 years and he loves it!!! It stays in the right position to assist with balancing while in his Nelo Kayak. He was skeptical at first to the benefits but is now a firm believer...... It would be nice if you made the tubing corrugated so it could bend in any position for mouth piece placement would be my engineering suggestion.

Works great once it seals

I have used this many time and it functions great, once you actually get the lid sealed. That can be tricky since there is no feature to let you know it is correctly oriented. I have to tip it over to ensure that it doesn't leak, if it does then I have to try to reseal it. I have an older camelbak resevoir that has a great system to seal the lid and if this had the same quick seal then it would be 5 stars.
