No plastic taste!
I used this reservoir during a three-day caving trip. The reservoir itself seems to be well-made and durable. The “zipper” was easy to use and no leaks. The only issue so far has been the quality of the mouthpiece. It’s not durable and sort of got shredded and I don’t know how. Inside the caves is dusty with lots of rat droppings everywhere so to keep the mouthpiece clean, I had it tucked inside my backpack the whole time except when I needed to drink water. And I didn’t bite or chew it lol! But somehow it got got damaged. I wish it came with a cover. Otherwise, it’ll a good reservoir.
Perfect size for long treks or hot days
I have been a camelBak fan for many years. I found that 3 liters is a much better size for me than the 2 liter I used previously. The tru Zip closure is very easy to close and you can actually see that the seal is complete. This is a good upgrade as I have not had a great seal in the past and got backpack contents wet. The rigid backplate allows for much easier drying. Used on several long hikes this summer. That said. I have found a new use for this camelBak. I used it on my walking golf cart during unseasonably hot weather this summer. It was perfect as I needed at least 3 liters to stay hydrated. Members of my golf team loved the idea and one even went and purchased one for this purpose. Although the pictures are not perfect --you get the idea. Perhaps a new market expansion to think about.
Excellent hydration bladder!!
I have used this bladder for running, fishing, hiking , mountain biking, rock climbing and while roofing. The bladder is well constructed and seems like it should hold up well. The design of the zipper top works better than expected although harder to open and close than other similar products that I have used. I was impressed with bite valve design. Easy on of design and sturdier valve than most. This did not drip while left on and made for easy hydration when in use. I do wish that the quick connect on the bladder was closer to the top for convenience when replenishing water supply using a water filtration pump. So if using in backwoods conditions frequently, I would keep that in mind. I honestly think this is a good purchase that will hold up well.
Highly refined reservoir, 3 liters
I have a small collection of reservoirs/bladders that sit in storage because they didn’t meet my needs in one way or another. Some were too small, difficult to fill, difficult to clean, or leaked. The Fusion 3 is larger at 3 liters versus the standard 2 liters. It has a large opening and grips that allow you to hold it open for filling with just one hand. It doesn’t leak. I used it for both hiking and biking in an older backpack that I had. It has several options for hanging in your bag so that it can be backwards compatible with most bags. I did find the top of the reservoir a little wide for the bag I was using so you may want to check both for size and fit. One change I would like is an insulated hose but perhaps that’s sold separately. Overall it checked so many boxes as Camelback keeps refining this product
CamelBak Fusion Reservoir Leaks
This was an amazing product overall, i wanted to like this new design so bad. I love the new zipper and the added rigidness added to the back of the bladder. However the bladder has a major design flaw. When the bladder has pressure applied to it water leaks out of the zipper. So if you put your pack down and the weight of the pack is resting on the bladder it will make your pack wet. I dont know how camelbak overlooked this. im so sad because i wanted a different opening mechanism for so long!
Great Reservoir
I like the design of this reservoir. I’ve never used one with a zipper design before and it works really well. It is easy to get extra air out of the bladder with the zipper design. This reservoir is lighter than my other 3 liter and I like that the hose is not as long as my other one, so it is less likely to get in the dirt when my pack is on the ground. It fit well in my 22 liter backpack. I’ve used it on three long hikes so far and several short hikes and have really liked it.
Slow leak on zip when horizontal and near full
Fail for the zip system, slow leak when horizontal. I can only recommend for occasional day hikes. Two stars for customer service by Camelbak and near taste neutrality! I got this only a few weeks back, have used lightweight bladders of others for years. I carry an additional bottle as backup on multi days. The bladders typically develop leaks after many weeks of insentive, active (ab-)use, which may mean years or months depending on activity. It's important to dry completely for storage. They still make water taste very plastic instantly. Not this one! I liked very much that the taste was indeed neutral. After a warm day, a minimal plastic taste occurs, but trust me: Nothing compared to older models. If you can drink chlorinated water, you probably won't be able to tell. So I wanted to love it! Also, it comes with filters that are affordable and lightweight enough to carry in case we stay out longer than planned. But... The zip doesn't just look awkward, it makes draining and drying too hard (even in super dry NM mountains). Forget about reaching in to clean. Plus, worse: It leaks slowly on the right corner (across from zipper) when laid down horizontally. As it would when you stop overnight and lay down your pack, with the down sleeping bag and clothes next to it, right? This is with 2.5l in and no extra pressure, on my kitchen counter: Slow leak of a small, pinhead droplet every minute or two. It accumulates only if you leave it overnight. I called Camelbak who asked for pictures and on-the-phone ordered a replacement. Kudos! The replacement sadly has the same issue, slightly slower. oO I fear moisture and mold in expensive gear and now look for a more reliable system. If you dayhike or store your pack upright, you would probably not mind nor notice.
Quench your thirst with ease
The CamelBak Fusion water reservoir is a great addition to the lineup of those I’ve used in the past. The easy open/close zipper at the top makes filling it a cinch, much easier than others I’ve had with more bulky closing options or leak issues. Not everyone wants or needs a 3L bladder but I like to have the option of carrying lots of water for less frequent refill stops. For its size, this one isn’t too bulky and has all of the right features. It has a little tab to make holding it while filling easy, a great lock on the bite of the hose and of course the zipper closure at the top. I recently used it on a hot day hiking up Tolmie Peak near Mount Rainier and was glad I had every ounce. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking to upgrade their hydration game!
Great replacement reservoir for newer Camelbaks
Excellent overall product. This CamelBak reservoir was quick and easy to fill, even with one hand. The pinch grip on the top made it a breeze to fill and the piece on the back kept the reservoir from "slouching" inside my camelbak. I was impressed with the zip closure, I had no leakages. The only issue I've had was fitting the Camelbak reservoir properly into my 2004 CloudWalker pack. Due to the larger top size vs previous reservoirs, I have to bend the top to properly close the zip. It works, but I have some concerns about the longevity of the reservoir when I'm folding the top portions to squeeze it into the pack.
Easy to fill and clean, detachable convenience
I didn't know what to expect with the zipper style design of the top. It hasn't failed me once, though. I even hung it filled with water upside down overnight, and didn't see a drop of water that had leaked. I stepped on it by accident when it was a little less than half filled while in my day pack, without it bursting open. The large opened allows me to really clean it with soap and water. I did notice a plastic taste the first 2 or 3 times, even after the initial washing. However, I have gone through about 10 days of using it for hikes or while I rode my bike and have not noticed any plastic taste at all. The quick connect tube is great, and makes cleaning and putting it in your bag a lot easier. The tube allows for the cleaning brush to go right in since the port has the water lock, so when you disconnect the tube it won't leak from the reservoir. I really appreciate the flow rate, it's a good flow that doesn't seem too restrictive. The mouthpiece is also neat that it has a lock, so you can't accidentally trigger it from potentially leaking out when you set your bag down or something that might hit the mouth piece. It fit in 3 of my bags, but each bag was a backpack with a pouch or sleeve for a reservoir. Not sure how a 3 liter would fit in reservoir specific bags. Though, I imagine that you could fit it with less water but the zipper top is rigid and likely won't flex much. The rigid top is about 8.5 inches or around 21 cm. One thing common with any reservoir is condensation when using cold water. Just something to remember, that it's not insulated and would condense if cold water is used on hot days. Overall, I'm very pleased with the zipper performance and ease of cleaning and filling. The qucik disconnect facilitates cleaning, will allow adding accessories (like an in-line filter), or replacing the tube if damaged. Slider zipper is really easy to use and seems that it will last (very thick). The 3 liter capacity is also a nice size, I could go for a moderate intensity hike for a good 5 or 6 hours without refilling.
