My husband and I started our journey to hike The Long Trail in Vermont, thinking we would be traditionalists, we did not bring poles. I ended up stepping in mud that grabbed my boot and sent me and my 30LB pack straight down. I sprained my ankle and the trip was off. Luckily, I was able to walk out.The first thing I did when I got home was purchase these babies, which I have been using to aid my ankle to full recovery and now we are going to go back on The Long Trail and finish what we started... but now with my secret weapon! Don't be caught hiking without poles- it's just not worth it, and these are exceptional.
best purchase!
I bought these poles to help support me on long hikes as I often get LCL pain going down hill. These poles have taken me up and down San Antonio, Mt. Wilson, on a 18 mile day hike, and all.over Zion including down the narrows for two days supporting a hard fall and working as makeshift crutches. Wouldn't trade them for the world. I have never had issues with the latches or with them compressing and extending. Even with being taken through the desert and high mountains. Into water and out again. Great product. Light weight. Comfortable. Straps have no wear signs or fraying. I'm on love. Great job black diamond!
Essential for Hiking Mountains!
I bought these for my hike on Catalina Island, CA. I worried if I was purchasing something I probably wouldn't need and would have to carry the weight for, but instead it HELPED me carry my weight. I relied on these poles for almost the entirety of my hike. The steep and sometimes scary ridges that I hiked felt safer with these poles. Going down said steep ridges was a breeze thanks to these poles and my knees thank them too! I LOVED the cork handles, they stayed dry and firm in my sweaty hands. The Ergo Cork Trekking Poles were absolutely essential for hiking these mountains and I'm so glad I went through with this purchase!
Not Just for Older Folks
I didn't think I needed trekking poles yet, but I decided to try after my physical therapist recommended them. They are great! They help reduce stress on your knees and back, and they are invaluable for fording streams. I used them for both day hiking and backpacking. These have 3 sections, which allow you to adjust for height and collapse them for storage. They have removable snow baskets. You do have to buy the protective rubber tips separately. But from now on, I won't be hitting the trail without them.
Glad I finally purchased trekking poles
I regularly go on hikes, but had never felt the need for trekking poles. With a Grand Canyon trip coming up in three months, I figured I might as well get them now. I spent plenty of time toiling over carbon/aluminum, cork/foam, mens/womens. These were ideal because I decided on aluminum for durability, cork because most things I've read says they're less "sweaty," and womens because I figured I could save a teeny bit of weight. (I'm tall, so I know mens ones would work for me as well.) The beautiful turquoise color was an added bonus. ;) The Ergo Cork trekking poles fit all my criteria and were only $20 over my planned budget. I am absolutely in love with them! My first trip with them included the Mau Har trail in Blue Ridge. It's a very rocky, uphill trail and I'm pretty sure I'd have just left myself there if I didn't have these poles to help me out. They saved my knees on the descents and helped me clamor along the rocky portions of the trail. They're light weight and I had zero issues with "hot spots" on my hands and never noticed my palms sweating on the 70 degree day. I love their simplicity, not too flashy or over-designed. Highly recommended!!
Love Them!
I've never hiked with poles before, but I'm sold! These poles are lightweight and the ergo cork handles are comfortable and sweat free. They allow for extra stability and less stress on the knees during descents. I've only had them a month and they've gone all around Colorado and rim to rim across the Grand Canyon. You won't be disappointed!
Helps prevent ankle sprain
The cork grips are wonderful in hot humid hiking conditions. No blisters. Haven't used the basket or soft tips yet, but the sharp ones worked great in soil. As you would expect, not much help on slick rock. The locking mechanism is secure.
Walk With Confidence
I am four months from a hip replacement and the poles have added ease and comfort to longer walks. I was most impressed with the ease with which I was able to find the perfect length. Love them!
Very useful during our long hike
These poles made getting through washed out trails safer and easier. Durable and stable. The cork handles were great during the high heat.
Why did I wait so long!?!?
I have been hearing friends sing the praises of their poles but it always looked so cumbersome to me. I was taking on a 4 day piece of the PCT and there we many streams to cross so I thought I would take them to help me avoid wet feet, but wow! These poles were super easy to adjust to the many terrains changes, made stream crossing a breeze, gave me a boost on the large boulders we had to climb up and gave me stability in getting down the steepest of trails. My new motto is Don't leave home without them!
