Just got this tent and shelter in a great print! Set it all up in the backyard to make sure I was able to (reviews made it sound very difficult, not the easiest but I'm a 120lb female and only had my 12 year old son to help me and we managed just fine) I absolutely love it! Roomier than I was expecting and I love all the pockets and spots for hanging gear! Love how easy the fly goes on so if it starts to rain it's super quick to get on
I JUST received this tent in the mail and immediately set it up in my yard. One thing to note is that the poles are color coordinated. I watched a review video on the tent before setting it up and if I didn't know that I would have struggled. The big orange pole at the end is a LITTLE hard to get hitched into the hole but I set up the tent by myself and was fine. Total set up time for my first try was 8 minutes. The only thing I don't like is that the doors don't have a zipper that simultaneously unzips the screen and the outer layer at the same time, but that's just a high maintenance issue. Overall I love it and can't wait to go camping!
This tent nearly ruined my relationship, I had a lovely May long weekend planned with my partner. After a long drive we were excited to set up camp and start the weekend. We quickly it a road block in setting up this tent. Three poles, color coordinated, I thought to myself "no biggie"... I was wrong. I struggled to get the poles in the gromets, while my partner was suggesting I was doing it wrong. I took a step back and looked at it, took the poles out, reworked everything and had a good stretch and went back to it. I'm 6' 1" 185lbs and in okay shape and it took two of us to snap the pole in, my "pre bent" pole now has multiple bends.
I've used this tent a half dozen times and only now have we figured out how to put it up correctly. You should put in all the poles first and then try to get the orange peg in. It is extremely tight and we thought we were going to rip the tent the first time. It has loosened now after several times. It is extremely cute in person. The tent stakes are averagely flimsy. You can fit three people in here, but it's weird shape means you're going to be snuggling. Also, the mosquito screen is on the inside of the tent flap, so it's extra work to get out of the tent. I'd buy it again but only because I love the look of the tent.
I've camped twice with this tent, totaling 5 nights. Great quality, and love the colorful outside design. Water proofing works great. Only issue is that the poles can be hard to install. One of mine barely clicks into place after a lot of effort and strength. I wish they would have made the poles like 1/2 inch shorter or something.
I've had this tent for a few weeks now and have used it for several camping trips. Overall it's easy to set up. I didn't have any issues getting the poles into the holes (unlike some of other reviews and videos out there). However, I did have some trouble getting the pole tip past the seams within the tent sleeves. Annoying if you're setting up the tent by yourself but not a big deal if you've got a spare pair of hands. My biggest complaint about this tent is the doors. There's no ties/toggles to keep the door out of the way when it's open and the lip at the door is a little high (I'm guessing 4-6"). Lots of pockets and ventilation. Fits my ExPed Duo mattress with room to spare.
We are a family of campers. Therefore I was excited to retire my well-used tent for the Homestead Domey 3 Tent. It is a good size with very nice color combo and there was much thought given to design of space, doors, etc. However, the poles are almost impossible to put into the anchor holes, and even my 24 yr old son had to wrestle them into place with difficulty. Sadly, I am returning it for a refund and starting over. Too bad.
I've lived outdoors a lot over the years. Had a 2 person vintage REI tent that I needed to replace after 20 years. This is a great tent, I use for beach camping with lots of space, car camping, and 2 person backpacking trips on long trips. I'd give it 5 stars, whatever that means, but there's room for improvements. Man if this were lighter and the material had a longer life. I can already tell I'll have to replace this 3-4 years because of how the poles are set up. Rather than a snap latch to poles you run through the material, which makes for easy set up but guaranteed wear and tear.
I'm in Total Love with this tent ! We Set her Up and slept in it watching the moon sail over head till I fell to sleep. Awoke up to a rain shower, jumped up put on the cover and presto , snug as a bug in a cozy nest. Last night we had the BIGGEST STORM EVER , three inches of rain in five minutes ! Coming in sideways, , But not a drop in my super cool tent ! Our last tent ,also North Face , lasted more then 20 years of heavy duty camping. NORTH FACE , THE ONLY SOURCE FOR DEPENDABLE, DURABLE , DELIGHT !
For reference, we had a REI 2 man half-dome tent and were thrilled with it. We now have a dog and the 2 man was going to be tight for the three of us. The Domey 3 seemed like a good match for us - had high hopes for the brand and expected it to be on par with the REI product, given the price point. We made the mistake of not setting it up at our place before our first trip out. We tried to assemble on site but it was extremely difficult to secure the long blue pole that goes over the doorway, it seemed like it was about 1/4" too long. Normally, I'd chalk it up to a one-off manufacturer defect, but I saw another review of this tent had the same problem - so I suspect it is a bad batch or they are actually designed that way. I was eventually able to secure it in, but it was really difficult, I had to unhook the other poles and really bow the aluminum pole, so much so I think I bent it a bit. Other observations: 1) The tent stakes it comes with are a joke - super light weight and bent immediately when trying to secure into a packed dirt camp site. 2) The poles slide through a liner - like my old tent from 15+ years ago. A lot of the new tents (including our REI half-dome) use the external mounting approach with clips which is AWESOME and way easier to assemble, especially for 1 person. Disappointed North Face used the old style where you have to push the poles through one direction and, if you pull, the poles sections detach and you have to screw around with the little elastic line inside to get them refastened. 3) The packaging is wierd - instead of the tent, fly and poles coming in a stuff sack or series of stuff sacks, it comes in a kind of duffel bag contraption that doesn't secure well on top - you should be able to secure it closed tightly with a line and cam or a duffel with a zipper - but North Face did neither so it seemed like it would be exposed to dirt, moisture and bugs in storage much more than a typical tent. We took it back the next day and will shop around for something else. Thankfully, REI has a good return policy.
