Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little pot I am very happy to see REI is now carrying the Snow Peak Kettle #1. I am a Cub Scout Leader who's oldest son just crossed over into Boy Scouts, my youngest is set to cross over in early 2017. One of their main 1st pieces of required gear (other then a good sleeping bag) was a mess kit. Being a Scout as a kid, and camping for the better part of 35+ years, i have found what works and what fails miserably in the field. Those traditional BSA mess kits are horrible, the handles break, the pots are way to small to cook in, if you do cook in them, you had better watch out as the chances are high that when holding the bail of the pot, it will tip and spill dumping the Scouts food on the ground or worse yet on the Scout that is trying to prepare his meal. for the life of me I do not know why the BSA still promotes this cheap mess kits... My mess kit is a combination of MSR Titanium kettle and pots, I am able to mix and match as the trip requires, but it cost way more then I'm willing to spend on a 1st year Scout. After surfing endless reviews on the internet, I found the Snow Peak Kettle. i have paired this Kettle with Snow Peaks Personal 3 piece cook set and a GSI Glacier Mug. What I love about this set up is, its all stainless steel, and will last them a life time. You can use these pot on a stove or over a fire. The Kettle has a bail and handles which adds to the stability and safety for the user when pouring hot liquids. All the handles are the same fold out style. which I feel are rock solid. By mixing and matching the kettle with a couple of the better pieces from the cook set, I feel that they have everything they could ever need in the field. While there are several pieces in the cook set that will never be used, and it cost 3 times the cost of a bsa set, the pros far out weigh the cons to this setup. And the best part is all of the pieces we chose, even though some are from different vendors is that the GSI cup fits their scrub pad, bandanna and when flipped upside down will nest into the snowpeak kettle, the kettle with the bail flipped a certain way (it will not work with bail one of the ways, you need to play with it to get it right, but it will work nicely) will then nest into the larger pot from the cook set then the lid / frying pan will lock them all into place. again we are only using half of the snow peak cookset at this time, but feel this is the best setup for our needs. We picked up the cook set though REI, but had to find the kettle though another online vendor as REI did not carry this item yet. I'm happy to say that i will be ordering my 3rd Snow Peak Kettle 1 thru REI for myself as I'm just that impressed with this product. And this is coming from someone who has over $300 invested in proven titanium cookware. And the best part of this 3rd Kettle is i just received a $20 gift card from picking up a new backpack for my youngest sons 10th b-day, so with free shipping to the local REI store this great piece of gear will be FREE... Thanks REI for hooking up its members... Now if we could only get REI to carry the Mors Bush Pot or maybe some Toaks Pots, I would be willing to spend more of my hard earned money at your stores...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great piece of kit! For backpacking this a durable item that is quite robust for it's small size. Works well over an open fire and will adequately serve one person quite well for making rehydrated meals and hot beverages for two can be made easily. Would highly rate this as a very rugged little cook pot that will give years of service.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Kettle I used this to replace my gooseneck kettles for camp coffee. Gooseneck kettles are obnoxious to travel with and just take up too much space. The pour spout works well for pour over but obviously not as precise as a Hario or bonavita for instance. It does the trick, sturdy, handle takes a minute to get used to.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from made for backpacking Smaller than expected and fairly light stainless steel. Definitely a back packing pot that can be used in many ways. Quality seems fair.
