Rated 5 out of 5 by from Plus size Flip Think of the Flip 30 as a bare bones Venture 30 or a bare bones half-pint Sherpa 50. The New Flip 30 is about the size of a pack of smokes but packs plenty of power for what it's designed for. This unit works well powering those small USB 4 inch fans like what you would find at Harbor Freight. Flip30 will run it all night - (Great for those sultry nights camping during the dog days of summer). I also use it with the Mini Lighthouse. Plug the USB charging cable from the Lighthouse into the Flip30 and you get triple the endurance. Pair it with a mini Light-a-Life and you have a stellar tent lighting system or emergency lighting while traveling. I charge my Flip30 with a Nomad13.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sweet! I bought this to add into my ultralight camping setup as an emergency power source and / or to keep peripherals going. It will completely recharge my iPhone 6 from completely dead 2x or bring my iPad Air from completely dead to 65% 1x. It's light, simple to use, small to pack and does just what I needed. Very happy with it overall, although I would have liked 4 full charges for the phone instead of 2 just to have that extra margin for those trips backcountry that run longer than expected.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good power Great power supply. I bought 1 for my mom for Christmas last year and liked it so much I got 1 for me as well. I use it to charge my phone. I can get about 3 charges at 50% battery on my phone but I've not put it to the test on a dead battery yet. The only negative I have is the USB that's built in for charging the way it flips around seem like I might brake it but I'm hard on my equipment. But over all great product I would buy it again

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best at its size We purchased several for grandchildren as well as mothers to use with cell phones as well as I-pads. So far amazing acceptance and without any problems. Highly recommend this Flip 30 for immediate back up.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Problems charging phone I bought to use on scouting trips. Battery stops charging after 5-10 minutes and I have to push the usb button again to restart but it stops again. Charging should start just by plugging in your phone. Maybe I have a defective one.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Goal Zero-Flip 30 I purchased this a few weeks ago and have used the Flip 30 to recharge several items. Introduced a great kid to solar life with it and it worked with the phone that was in use all day. I watched as it was used and noticed the flip-moveable position USB plug is not very sturdy; my impression is that it will not last very long in the rugged world of hiking, camping, boating, hurricanes, evacuations, etc. The other thing noted is there is nothing to attach the charger with. Have to hold it (see video-as real life) to be on the move with phone or other portable device. Sitting on the table I just set it next to the phone it was charging but anytime the phone was needed you have to use both hands, one for phone, other for the charger. Perhaps a strap or clip might be a good idea for it. Even in the backpack, pocket or a purse the charger and the charging item need to be together so they do not move too far apart and become disengaged for charging. Other than these two things, I am satisfied with the charging time, recharging and overall power of the Flip 30 so far.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, quick charge for short camp trips Super happy with this product. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because plugging it in to my iPhone requires the original long charging cord or the purchase of a shorter one. The short cord it comes with does not fit my phone.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A great product but it doesn't come with a plug! As a battery charger this product looks great, is well made, and stores a lot of power. However, I wish I had known before I bought it that it doesn't come with a cord to charge it. Had I known, what I know now, I might have bought another company's charger or at least the smaller model of this product. The product ONLY charges by USB. There is not USB-to-plug adapter. So I two options for charging the battery, neither of which is convenient: 1- I can try and plug it into my computer but it is large battery and doesn't attach well and it charges slower that way OR 2- I can borrow the AC-USB adapter for my phone or camera but then that sort defeats the purpose AND, again because the product is so large and heavy, it is difficult to get it to stay plugged in. I usually have to create some sort of contraption for supporting the battery so that it doesn't pull itself out of the outlet by its own weight. All these issues could have been easily avoided if Goal Zero wasn't too cheap to include a cord with a USB to AC adapter. I guess I will need to find an electronics store to try and buy one myself.

This appears to have a USB male connection, so when you are near a power source ( and are likely to have access to a cable) you won`t need one to charge this, and then when you are in the outdoors (and likely have less access to cables) you will need one?

Asked by: atomantjapan
Yes, you will need to use the charging cable that you would typically use to charge your electronic when you’re home.

How long will this hold its charge once disconnected from a power source? I'll be hitting the trail for up to 7 days without power source access and don't want to attempt charging my phone/camera and be surprised with no charge available.

Asked by: annunciation86
The shelf life for the Flip 30 Portable Charger is about 6 months before seeing a noticeable decrease in charge state.

is this a device you charge at home and then use to charge something else?  How long does it itself hold a charge once you've charged it? As in if I charge it and wait two weeks to charge something will it still charge fully?

Asked by: cmarkia
Yes, this device can either be solar charged or charged at home prior to your trip. It stores power and can then be used to charge your devices. The battery shelf life is between 3-6 months.
