Top quality in a good size
I got one of these about 25 years ago, as a Nalgene product back when the material was called "Lexan". Great because this material will not take on odors or flavors, so I can use it for water, juice, milk, whatever. My original is still going strong, so when I saw REI had them in nifty colors, I just had to stock up. Nalgene is always leak-proof, and the absence of a gasket means easy and thorough cleaning. I have a small fanny pack with one compartment for wallet, phone, etc. and one insulated compartment for a small water bottle. The bottle that came with the pack was a bit of a cheapie. This bottle fits in the compartment no sweat, so it is my go-to for short hikes or doing the tourist thing on travel.
Great size for daily use
I used to carry around a full liter-sized Nalgene, but often they end up getting funky before you can actually finish that much liquid. This 16-oz size is perfect for carrying around, both because it takes up less space in your bag and because you can actually finish what's in it. It's also easier to drink from if you're doing something like driving. The walls are definitely thinner than the 32 oz. version, but still plenty tough. I also feel better about carrying this one by the loop, since there's less weight on it. If you have accessories (e.g. splash guard) for the larger Nalgene, they won't fit this one, but you're probably less likely to need them.
Is the right size for the need!
I have used Nalgene bottles for years now and have probability lost more bottles than most people ever but. Mostly the 32oz. Wide-Mouth bottles. But for working out I need one between 8-20 oz.'s. this 16oz. Wide-Mouth bottle is just what I needed. I bought two for before and after workout drinks. I've already lost one bottle to my wife and will be back at REI for more. The wide mouth makes it so easy to add the power supplement to the bottle before adding the water and you can measure out the right amount of water right on the bottle. The perfect bottle for the job at task! And the durably is a real plus!
Small enough to fit in my day pack side pocket
I couldn't decide on the 32 oz. wide mouth water bottle or this small one so I bought both. I use the small one so much more than the big one. It fits in my osprey mesh side pocket daypack very nicely. I was previously using a tiny Dasani plastic water bottle because it was the only thing that fit. I also took this REI bottle to Europe. It was great for the plane but remember to dump out the water before security or they may take it! It also fit nicely in my mini back pack for day trips.
Facilitates mixing dietary fiber supplement
I take psyllium whole husks dietary supplement two times daily. The recommended preparatory procedure is to shake the supplement in water within a closed container. I initially tried stirring it in a glass of warm water, and the results were terrible. I dreaded taking the stuff! So I bought the REI Co-op Nalgene Wide-Mouth Water Bottle - 16 fl. oz. and used it to blend the supplement with 8 oz of water. Consistently great results. Drinking the supplement is now very easy.
Solid
Typical Nalgene. It holds water without leaking. It doesn't break. Wide mouth makes it easy to clean. It's a good size for my everyday needs. The color is nice.
Good to have water. I carry several in backpack.
Using to carry water. Also use on bicycle. It fits the bottle carrier and also fits cupholder in vehicle. If carrying drinks in apartment where dropping it would cause a bad stain, I use the screw top bottle. Use on daily walks about town as well. They don't break easily being polycarbonate I think and BPA free, but I've had several break when dropped on a sidewalk, but generally they are a lot better than glass, but stainless probably would never break if dropped. Whenever they break it's a problem, so if you're in a situation where if you break a waterbottle, it's a disaster like in a desert, probably steels for you, but otherwise, the Nalgene does a great job and I've been using them in all sizes for years, both outside and for uses around the house and kitchen.
Perfect for Small Drinks
I bought this Nalgene to mix protein powder while I'm traveling. I wanted something small enough to not be cumbersome on the airplane or packing but would still hold 8oz of water and a scoop of powder. I haven't had any issues with leaks as long as I tighten it all the way. Cleans easy and works just fine. I would recommend it.
Cute little bottle
This is about 6 and 1/4 inches tall to the lip (meaning uncapped). Last line marking says 14oz and I poured in 16oz from a measuring cup and it went to the level of the ring. I think the 32oz are too fat, too wide and kinda inconvenient to lug around but this size is great. Fits outside pocket of Jansport backpack and not too heavy to make backpack feel lopsided.
A backpacking staple.
Nalgenes are heavy, which is good--you don't want to get stranded in the outback with a broken water bottle. Having said that, I haven't dropped mine yet. I bought it because it screws onto my MSR Miniworks water filter and makes pumping water a dream. The wide mouth makes it easy to clean--you can't get the bacterial layer out without a good manual scrubbing! I also bought a half-liter to scuzz up with lemonade powder or EmergenC or whatever so I don't contaminate my large water bottles with sugar, etc. Good show, old chaps! Well done! I don't understand why my Subaru Forester's cupholders were not made large enough to hold one o' these, though. Have to stick to dinky 1-qt or 1/2-liter bottles for that.
