Below Expectations
I like the readability of the screen and the LED indicators on the top and the side. Overall I have been happy with this computer but my main reason for buying it was for Strava Live Segments. I've had a few experiences where I went all out and was encouraged when I looked down at my computer to see I was 15 seconds ahead of my PR. Today I thought I earned a KOM. I was on cloud 9 until I saw what was actually uploaded to Strava 8 seconds behind my PR. I looked on their website and saw that their algorithm is different than Strava so this is to be expected. Well what's the point of Strava Live segments then? I'll be taking it back and I'll try a Garmin.
Very Good
I previously owned a Garmin 1000 and had to replace it. This is a very good device for the commuter/touring cyclist. The black/white display is easy to read. The routes are easy to load and follow - simply follow the chevron on the display. The unit beeps and lights flicker red when the cyclist leaves the route. I easily set up the device including the heart rate monitor. I'm still getting to know the features and prefer the buttons over touch screen. The custom pages are also easy to set up via a smart phone - much easier than the Edge 1000. Friends areable to follow my route. Nice feature if I need help.
Great until...
This is my first bike computer and is does what it is supposed to very well. Two issues with me: 1-Black/white screen makes navigation difficult. Sometimes it is helpful to see blue for a river instead of light grey when you are trying to find your way around 2-Big issue: the unit barometer (which is used to calculate altitude gain) went crazy about 14 months after I bought the unit. The unit has some little vents in the back for the barometer and it appears these clog easy and are subject to trouble often. More so if you do some rides in the rain and mud. Unfortunately, Wahoo is not willing to just give me another unit because I am past the 12 month warranty. But that feels like weak service though. To be fair, they agreed to take a look at the unit and fix it. I do expect a more durable product and for the company to understand that some of us ride everyday and don't want to be 1-2 weeks without a bike computer. I will try Garmin next and see if have better luck.
Great Bike Computer
I really enjoy this bike computer. Easily customized to display the fields that you are interested in and equally easy for my 62 year old eyes to read the screen at a glance. Would highly recommend it.
I love it. Bye Garmin.
So much better than my Garmin Edge 800 that I don't know where to begin. It installs effortlessly, is easy to figure out, makes installing sensors sooooo easy. I use it with Ride with GPS, and the route download is lovely. Easy to read display. Much nicer than touch screen...
So far so good
Bought for an upcoming self guided cycling tour in France. Using it for hiking while in Tucson. Setup a bit tricky but supposedly easier than Garmin. my local bike shop in Canada recommended this brand/model.
Flexible, Easy To Read Display
I used a Polar V650 GPS bike computer for several years, but inadvertent "pocket dials" of the touch screen meant lost data and the Bluetooth connectivity to sensors and my phone could be wonky. Switched to the Wahoo Elemnt, and after learning how to use it, I love it. The crisp, high contrast display is very easy to read - even with dark glasses and especially in direct sunlight. The display is very flexible, in regards to the data your display. I use RideWithGPS and the Elemnt automatically uploads my rides when I get home. I use multiple bikes and the combo of the Elemnt and RideWithGPS lets me track mileage for each bike - great for maintenance. I did have two issues at first. The first Elemnt I purchased was way off on elevation (apparently a known problem). I returned the defective unit to REI and the second Elemnt has been spot on. I also had some connectivity issues at first using the Elemnt with my Polar BT cadence and speed sensors - they would drop out a few minutes into the ride. Switching to Garmin Ant+ speed, cadence and heart rate sensors solved that.
Smashes it right out of the box!
I sync'd this up with my Strava and BOOM! I use it on 4 different bikes to track fitness, routes and mileage. Easy to use. Easy to move from bike to bike. Best bang for the buck
started okay, getting worse. won’t buy again
First, I’ve had this unit over a year and feel strongly enough to come and review, which I do not typically do. This unit never worked perfectly since day one. There were always live segments that would not be captured(either they would show up, then disappear or they would show as completed and then would not have saved when ride was complete and data was uploaded). I just figured it was not the end of the world, except it was frustrating to put in a big effort and not be able to track performance.. so I got my wife a bolt. She had trouble getting it to link to HR, but she’s not super performance oriented and we are pretty easy going so...again...oh well. I emailed customer support. ‘Restart, turn off, reset settings, etc.’ no change. I ask for an exchange, they say a software patch is coming and refuse. I’m pretty frustrated but okay. I also had a kickr, which stoped working (we have 6 wahoo products at this point) and they agreed to return. I brought up the problems and again it’s a software issue., I’m told. The most recent updates and made live segments completely useless and now MY (wahoo) HR monitor won’t connect. I’m really frustrated at this point and wouldn’t buy another wahoo product. I would particularly avoid ELEMNT, as it seems as if it’s being bricked to make us buy a new upgrade. I will, but it’ll be another company.
