Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Product Overall - BUT Felt very confident knowing my cargo box was secured to my vehicle tightly with this product. However, the lock cores (not included) are, in my opinion are over-priced - $40 for two cores x 4 mounts/4 cores needed (do the math)...which makes little sense when an 8-pack of cores (who needs 8 cores??) costs ~ $96. Big volume discount I guess. One word of caution regarding the mount: the rubber finger-pull loop, used to install/uninstall the Timberline Tower mount from the roof rail broke when my wife pulled on it (1st time removing it from the vehicle when our trip was complete). Suggestion to manufacturer: make this piece more stout. Suggestion to other users: loosen the travel screw mechanism a lot before pulling on this loop to avoid putting excess stress on it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy on / off, just a little pricey I had a complete Yakima round bar set but got a new car and had to replace the towers. Not mentioned online, these towers can be removed in about 5-10 minutes, so I was pleasantly surprised. The package includes a 5/32" hex key shaped like a screwdriver, so after unlocking and removing the end-caps, less than 50 turns counter-clockwise loosen the rubber-covered metal straps enough to remove each tower and take off the rack. The opposite direction works to tighten the straps and reattach the rack in about 10 minutes. My only complaint is the cost, because even with the Labor Day weekend 20% discount, the towers and round bar adapters cost almost $200.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from High price, low quality I bought a set of four towers for the roof rails on my new car. I managed to decipher the less than clear instructions to the point that I could begin to assemble the towers. With some effort I installed three brackets on the towers, but on the fourth the mounting screw was so far off center it would never meet the bracket. No amount of tweaking would move the screw. This is a simple item sold at almost $200 a set. I expected better quality control. Overall the device seemed to be much more complicated than it has to be.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It works, but they take some time to fit install I have five different Yakima racks I use to transport canoes and kayaks on different cars and a trailer so I am familiar with the Yakima product line. Although this tower design will work on a wide variety of vehicles, it is difficult to install, and I have doubts about how long it will last. The little rubber tab used to pull the strap around the bar is sure to break first. Using a battery powered drill makes putting the rack on and off the car much easier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks good on the car I bought this item as a present for my daughter's SUV to haul her kayak around. We installed the rack together just after Christmas. It was even a fun project as everything went together better than expected. The Towers seemed to be as strong as the older style towers I have on my SUV. All the parts of the system fit well together.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product!! I have these mounted on a 2009 Tahoe's stock rails and they perform excellent with the Corebars and sweet roll kayak system. All three work very well, easy to install and they are very quiet!!! I had the square bars on the Tahoe before and thought they were too loud. The Corebars Rock.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect fit for Ford Explorer Got these to haul a canoe on my Ford Explorer. They were a perfect fit. Installation looks complicated and there are a number initial steps, but once you have those done it's easy to take the rack on and off. Lost one star because one of the rubber loops broke on install.

Do the towers come with the necessary hardware for mounting Yakima round crossbars?

Asked by: tenjac
The Yakima RoundBar SL Adaptors are sold separately and required for you to mount the round bars to these towers.

I have a 2013 ford escape with the panoramic sun roof (dont know if that will make a difference) and factory installed rails and railings would these towers work on my car? I want a roof box and box sites fit guides said there boxes wouldn't fit?

Asked by: Sean
Yes, these towers work with your roof rack set-up, but you will need to include crossbars to hold the roof box as well. Please contact REI at 1-800-426-4840 and we can help you with your set up.
