Quality product

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These seem like a great deal , I no longer have an suv or truck and can no longer put them in or anything but from what I’ve seen in the box they are great and durable. Very compatible and great for road tripping and luggage. Amazing quality.

Versatility

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Come with instructions and tool so it makes the installation easy. This versatile design makes it fit to almost every vehicle, especially mine, RX 350 2014.

Work well but instructions aren't great

Bought these as part of a full Yakima system, along with the bars and the roof box. Happy overall but the instructions here are not very good and my usual technique of supplementing with a manufacturer's youtube video also didn't help. The issue I encountered was that if I followed the steps as described I was not able to slide the bars into the wing-shaped bit that attaches the bars to the towers (this is included with the bars, not with the towers). I had to leave a part loose and then tighten once the bars were centered in the towers properly. This proved to be a bit nerve wracking considering these are supporting a huge box on the top of my car at highway speeds. All's well that ends well but Yakima should to take a look at this issue.

Okay

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These Yakima timberline towers are a good choice for someone looking to enhance carrying capacity for their vehicle. The towers are sturdy and installation isn’t too hard but I did have to follow a YouTube video. Please note that you must purchase the right kind of towers for your vehicle and the bar adapters too. I hear that people have issues with the towers stripping over use but so far so good.

Optional roof mount

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The quality of these mounts is excellent I would say even very good. Silent fastening does not let things slip in different directions. Stable in every sense of the word. I would add that it is compatible with our mounts.

Secure, effective, quiet…and look good

Replaced some old Yakima rail grab towers with round bars with these newer style Timberline towers to upgrade to the aero bar style crossbars for my 5th gen 4Runner. These took me about an hour to mount up with the bars one evening after work. It was dark out but I was able to do with a headlamp. Much quieter than the old bars/towers my truck’s previous owner had set up when I purchased it. I use these to carry sections of rail about 8’ long and weigh around 30-40 lbs each. Usually 2-4 of these at a time. I also need to occasionally carry lumber for carpentry/projects, metal tubing for welding or other longer items that I don’t want to put inside or won’t fit. To protect them, I have used pool noodle like sections of foam and eventually, a set of Dakine aero bar wraps for surfboards or kayaks (which fit these perfectly) and I can remove those when not needed. I like how this system sits off the roof a bit more than the standard Toyota crossbars. It’s actually my strongest argument for ditching the factory crossbars for this setup. This is important to allow for easier cleaning underneath and less likelihood of beating up my truck’s roof when loading/unloading gear. I just route lashing over the item and under the bars and tighten down. It holds what I need held very securely. The cost is somewhat significant, but having strong and quiet bars is a huge gain. The bars look sporty and stylish and give my truck a sporty utility look without being garish or bulky and totally killing fuel economy on a truck with already somewhat dismal fuel economy. If you have raised rails and need to transport longer items securely, you don’t want loud noise and you want the bars to look good, the Timberline towers allow for a variety of options to meet those needs.

not as intuitive to install as expected

Took a long time to figure out how to tighten up the tower straps on the roof rack. 5 stars to REI employee who helped us figure out but the product instruction needs to be better.

Easy system to learn

Coated steel straps for connection make these dependable. Transports 18.5' canoe over 2k miles last month. A little noise, but that was expected. Star held back due to price...still needed bars and adapters.
