Sizing notes

All sizing is based on body measurements.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Jacket...try on sizes to dial it in! Jacket fits well. 6ft 170, bought a large. Fits great around the shoulders/chest/sleeves, but the stomach area is baggy. Previously had bought the Uber layer and that was baggier in the torso, returned for the Winter Ferrosi. The ferrosi seems lightly more fitted. Medium sized in either jacket was way too tight. Plenty of insulation for winter hiking, which is what I bought it for. Two light layers layer well under it (wool base w/ Nike Sphere LS 1/4 zip). If the jacket had venting it would be nearly perfect for what I use it for! I won't complain though as I'm happy with the fit (besides torso area) and like the soft shell durability/weather protection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent jacket for cold weather bicycling Live in central Ohio and am biking all winter this year, to work, whatever. This jacket is perfect (for me, anyway)--lightweight, blocks wind, keeps me warn while riding, water repellent (though not completely waterproof). I've ridden comfortably in 20 degree and lower temperature weather. I don't need to layer up, and I wouldn't want to be any warmer than this jacket keeps me. Great fit for biking--longer arms, and hood stays on even in wind. All in all a very good jacket for biking. Also nice just for wearing around on moderately cold days.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Multi Purpose Jacket - Jacket does fit snug, I typically wear Large and I needed an Extra Large jacket. - Overall fit is quite comfortable, it has become my everyday go to. - Sizing in shoulders and upper back is tight when reaching overhead or using hands at face height, but fabric has good stretch to it. - did not test in wet conditions Disclaimer - I`m 6'6", so I never expect clothing lengths/sizing to be perfect. Pros: Great jacket liner for cold outdoor activities, tough shell means you can layer down to it and have faith it won`t get torn up, windproof design is good bonus. Cons - Heavier than a puffy and does not compress as well. Tight in shoulders.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Missed the mark This jacket is very warm. A bit to warm for energetic activity. For the warmth it has a very short and tight collar and the hood is a bit to small. The jacket is listed as standard fit but is narrow thru the chest and waist. 5'9 172 41" chest. Medium was much to tight. Large was perfect. Now to the good. Extremely comfortable and unrestricted. Feels much lighter when wearing. Very durable exterior, pretty much wind proof, good dwr, and very warm, if you are not going to be exerting yourself and not going to be out in very cold and windy conditions this is a great jacket. The short and tight collar, small hood, and lack of breathability made me return it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great fitting HD jacket I've been searching out a synthetic puffy that is durable - a tall order. Something like a work jacket by C*****T but without the bulk and weight. Something like a P******A puffy but durable. The winter Ferrosi is real close. Wore it 4 days straight in the field and it was plenty warm down to 10 F. Had to do some wrenching, and the jacket barely looks like it. A few times that would have torn a silly light nylon shell did nothing. Only con is also a plus. This jacket is meant to be the one layer, so it is lined with cozy brushed fleece. Pulling it over an underlayer can be tricky.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My mind's playing tricks on me... It's hard to believe a jacket as lightweight as this is as warm as it actually is. My wife took the dog out one evening and I told her to "try out my new coat." she put it on and said she thought she was gonna need something more substantial. Told her to try it and when she came back in she was astounded how warm it was being that is was incredibly light weight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nicely played, OR, nicely played.... I have two Ferrosi jackets and like many have said---they are great jackets. Was excited when I saw OR was making a winter version. I really like much of this winter version. Tough, nicely insulated and well-made as is expected of OR gear. I gave it 5 stars cause it is an awesome piece but there is a tiny "but". Compared to my other Ferrosi jacket, it is a bit tighter in the chest and feels a bit shorter in the length. Having said that, it is still a piece brimming with said awesomeness so not really a compliant so much as a heads up to Ferrosi fans who are comparing...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice wind protection A nice soft shell with insulation that look good wearing around town. Repelled light rain well. A bit slim fitting, so you may want to size up.

Questions & Answers

I see OR has either "trim" or "standard" fit available for the winter ferrosi jacket, which is being sold here by REI? Also any chance REI will soon stick the pewter colt for this jacket?

Asked by: Williano
This jacket is standard fit. As of January 2018, we do not stock this jacket in the pewter. All available colors are on our website.

How windproof is this jacket? I am hoping that it can block wind better than jackets such as the Patagonia Nano-Air or Arcteryx Atom LT.

Asked by: E. Stitsel
Outdoor Research does not provide a wind resistance rating for this jacket.

What temperature is this jacket warm to?

Asked by: Karna kelley
We don't provide temperature ratings on clothing because warmth depends on many different variables including activity level, metabolism, perspiration as well as the other clothing layers you are wearing.

Two questions I was wondering if this jacket still has the ability to stuff into the pocket or did the addition of insulation take this feature away? Also, for alpine hikes or some summits, Mt. Hood or Adams would this be appropriate in a four layer kit

Asked by: Aetas
This jacket does not stuff into its left pocket. This is a great jacket for layering under a shell while hiking but, if you tend to run cold, you may need another insulating layer to stay warm while mountaineering.

tried this jacket on in the store and need an XXL. Why is it not available in blue? This jacket seems to run fairly tight so it's not like XXL is really all that big. Very disappointed as I am not interested in boring black
