I bought is rope as my first rope about 2.5 years ago. Its been all over the country. Its seen everything from desert sandstone to east coast quartzite to California granite. I've taken it sport climbing, multi pitch trad climbing, aid climbing, and top rope soloing. Its been in the dirt, sand, and mud. After 2.5 years of regular use, I am deciding to retire it as a lead rope due to some stiff spots and general wear and will be ordering a new one.

nice feel but wears quick

The rope is nice in color, and on using it at first, the dynamic elongation was great for soft catches. However, after 5 months of regular use climbing 2-3 days per week, the rope is ready to be retired IMO. It seems to have readily absorbed dirt off the rock, as I have taken great care to keep it off the ground with a tarp and other measures. The color is significantly different -- faded from UV in parts; others are hopelessly darkened; the entire rope is now a dull and dirty color. Washing it in water did not rid it of the blackened color. The sheath has not slipped and the core has held up great--no soft spots. But the abrasion resistance of this batch seems quite low, and I am almost contemplating a warranty claim. I've used it for sport and top roping on single pitches, on California granite, and volcanic rock of various compositions. This sheath just did not seem to hold up to the granite here. I was using it for toproping and some drag occurred over rock. But now that the wear has started, it seems to be getting exponentially worse with every climb; and I'm confident that it's strength has diminished to a significant extent. It was a nice rope, just wished it would have lasted longer.

My first rope

This was first rope. I’ve used it both indoors and outdoors. I’ve had it for a little over 3 years and it’s still in great condition. It is quite stretchy so if you set up top rope outdoors, be careful and keep a tight belay when the climber is close to the ground. The 9.8mm diameter is perfect for the grigri 2 and when I lead belay with the grigri, it feels smooth when I feed out slack. I have been in multiple scenarios outdoors where I put it through severe rope drag and it seems to hold up. I have used it at at a beach crag as well in sandy conditions and it’s still good. Can’t complain!

Smooth :)

This rope handles so smooth feeding and taking slack, and I'm really happy with the rope diameter. Got this specifically for leading in the gym and I'm very pleased with it. I have also gotten multiple compliments on it's color, which is unique to each rope.

HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS

This rope is trash. I highly recommend you do not buy it. I bought it in May, with no real use on it beginning until the end of October as I was hunkered down with work. I've taken a few easy falls on it, with only one true whipper. The rope was core shot, with the sheathing totally frayed out an inch of unwound core showing as of Thanksgiving. This blow out happened on a 5-foot whip. It's seen maybe a bakers dozen days out. I have a rope that's lasted for 4 years and withstood numerous 10+ foot whippers, but this one is already going in the trash.

Beautiful

Prettiest rope out there hands down. Extremely dynamic, doesn't get dirty, holds up well to heavy use out on the rocks, and super smooth in all belay devices. Doesn't feel like something put together from leftover materials. Only problem i have encountered is coiling when lowering somebody on the megajuul but that might be the device's fault and not the rope's. Highly recommended.

It didn't break.

This is my first lead rope that I've purchased, I use it only for gym climbing. The rope is nice and light, ties off really nice. I had to readjust my figure 8 knot because I'm used to using the slightly thicker gym provided rope. Doesn't sinch up too tight when taking a big fall, kind of a waxy coating that helps break apart the figure 8 after you are off the wall. I'd recommend it to anybody looking for a cheap gym rope. Looks really cool too, almost a silvery shine to it very colorful, not as gray as in the picture on the website.

My only gym rope

For a reliably good, indoor gym rope, I won’t go with anything other than the Boa Eco. The minimum 40m length is enough for any gym and it’s relatively light and compact enough that it should stash into any backpack or duffel just fine. I recently replaced my former Boa Eco after about a years worth of use (having led 3-4 times a week at 135lbs) and even the older rope isn’t totally shot yet. I mainly replaced it for peace of mind. As for being an all-rounder, I don’t know if I’d take the Boa Eco outside often—or at all— as its sheath just doesn’t give me the impression of being something that’s meant to snag rock. However, like I said, if you’re looking to use this for just gym sessions, you can’t beat it for the price 👍🏼

Good 40 meter

Great rope if you’re heading to a smaller crag with long approach. Not too heavy (given it’s a 9.8) and handles nicely. Take care of it (changing rope end to tie in, rope tarp, watching for sharp edges, etc) or you’ll start to see the wear and tear

Wears Quickly

I purchased the Edelrid Boa Eco 9.8mm x 70m rope in November 2021 and I have used it for about 10 days of sport climbing. I agree with other reviewers who report that it is supple and handles smoothly. However, I have been displeased with how quickly the sheath has become fuzzy and snagged in several places and the ends have become frayed. Over 20+ years of climbing and owning several ropes, I have never had a rope wear this quickly.
