Perfect setup for #vanlife

We got the Genesis Base Camp System shortly after it was released and have used it twice a day almost every day since then (two years+). It's the perfect setup for van life as it packs up super small and includes everything you need for a variety of meals from pastas and curries to bacon, eggs and pancakes. We really like the non-stick ceramic pan and how adjustable the burner is. Great for simmering or rapid boiling!

I tried this out recently on a 3 week trip to Glacier. I bought the unit online from REI. It arrived with a ding in the 5L FluxPot. I would have returned it but we were leaving and I needed the stove. I should have returned it. At the end of the first week, the handle came off the 5L FluxPot when I was lifting it to drain water from boiling pasta. A few days later the fuel regulator stopped working. I had to buy a different stove to finish the trip. Not impressed. For $350 I was looking for a quality piece of camping equipment. I didn't get it.

Eating Better with Jetboil

I bought to improve my food quality from eating just freeze-dried bag. This allowed me to make eggs in the morning, evening were soup for the first course followed by pasta with sauce for dinner. It is easy to set up (I also bought the 5 lb refillable propane tank). It is able to heat food or water up quickly. It is important to not use the high heat when cooking in the pot or you will scorch the bottom and it will be extremely difficult to clean. I would also make sure you use oil or Ghee if you are going to cook something that may have a tendency to stick. I also have to mention the burners lit the first time I tried. Recently it was extremely windy while camping and I used the wind screen and it worked well but I learned to use other camp gear to block the wind so don't know if it is necessary. It also took me a while to figure out how to attach - it is simple - push into rubber slots. I am very happy with the purchase and look forward to increasing my culinary abilities while camping.

Just what i never knew i needed.

I absolutely love this set up, i originally bought it for camping but to be honest it goes everywhere with me. I typically cook breakfast on the stove unless im making a pasta. The carrying case makes the setup extremely compact and its really easy to completely disassemble and clean. This is a great product if you want a gas range that is similar to cooking at home and are looking for something with a small footprint.

Excellent portable stove.

I cook scores of meals outside, often over fire but I still pack an Optimus SVEA 123 that's over 50 years old. The Genesis Basecamp is an excellent portable stove. The first meal I cooked was Steak Diane for two and the stove performed without a hitch.

Worth the premium price

Ive used the Basecamp on 3 car camping trips here in CO in 2020 - this stove not only shocks my camp friends when I 'unfold' it, but cooks any meal with ease. Very happy I purchased this over any of the other non-folding basic camp stoves out there. Compactability of stove + pots + pans is the name of the game here so it's a total value at the premium price. Also make sure to add on the Luna Burner - it's perfect for AM coffee or PM pasta sauce.

Perfect for my needs

I needed a light weight, compact stove, with three burners so I could cook for a group. The basecamp, with the Luna satellite burner is perfect. I've had it out several times and could not be happier. Everything stores in a single container, with a strap that makes it very easy to store and transport. And the Luna stores very nicely in the 1.8L cup I added to the system. One suggestion, pick up a couple of microfiber towels. I use one to wrap the basecamp so it doesn't scratch the 5L pot, and one for the Luna so it doesn't scratch the 1.8L. Two thumbs up!

Almost great.

First let me say that the flame control on this thing is the best I have every seen in a camp stove. It also packs down super compact for what you are getting. The smaller pan is super non stick. Now to the disappointing. For the price point it should come with a longer flexible hose. That solid gas line just about ruins the whole experience for me. The coated non stick pan started flaking after 2 uses. I only use silicone utensils to not sure what that is about and the handle is flimsy. The big pot is good for bowling water but anything else will stick to the bottom instantly. Also it only comes with 1 lid.. Ultimately I regret spending that much money on it

A must-have for any camper!

The Jetboil Genesis Basecamp System gives you the same experience as cooking from home wherever you are! We decided to buy this system for many reasons: it’s compact, lightweight and very portable. This system has everything you need: stove, skillet, pot, one lid that fits both the skillet and pot that has the ability to strain water. The only thing missing is the cooking utensils which you can buy separately, and I’m sure you can store them in the same compartment at the top of the carry case where you can store the fuel regulator (don’t quote me on that though). What I like best about this system is how easy it is to light (literally one click on), the variable temperature control, and how dependable it is. Even with wind gusts in the 30 mph range on an extremely cold morning, we had no issues lighting the stove to boil water (very, very quickly) for much needed coffee to keep us warm and a delicious breakfast of pancakes and eggs for a family of five. I think we’ll eventually buy the summit skillet and the 1.5L pot in addition to this so we can have more flexibility to cook a variety of meals without having to be creative when we’re camping... sometimes you just need two skillets! Here’s a note that may be obvious to some: the skillet is non-stick but the pot is not.... so don’t use the pot to cook eggs. Trust me. Also, my 8-year old Cub Scout cooked dinner on this by himself (with adult supervision of course) during the BSA National Camp-In, so it’s easy to use. The skillet holds enough fluid to make Hamburger Helper Three Cheese: ground beef, pasta, and 3 cups of fluid... which I was hesitant would fit but it did!

Sweet car camping stove

This was our 10th year flying to either Vegas or Durango, renting a jeep, and exploring the San Juan's or the Colorado Plateau. It's our first with an adequate stove because packing a kitchen to fly is difficult. What a beautiful thing it is to eat well in the wilderness. Two meals a day for three over a two week adventure and never a problem, just bliss.
