What is a hybrid bike?
- A mix of mountain, road and touring bike designs, hybrid bikes mash up specific features to create do-it-all bikes with a wide range of uses like city commuting or riding paved paths
- Many hybrid bikes also come with electric assist
Pick components or features that match your riding
- Wheel size: 700c is the standard on most hybrid bikes
- Front suspension: Choose suspension if you plan to also ride on gravel or unpaved paths
- Step-through frame: Low crossbars make it easy to get on and off the bike; ideal for casual or recreational riding
- Brakes: Disc brakes offer stronger braking with less hand effort; rim brakes are more affordable
Get the right fit
- Frame size: Consult the brand's size chart which lists a height range for each bike size
- Standover heights: There should be about 1-2 inches of clearance between your inseam and top bar of the bike frame; this generally is less of a concern on step-through bikes
