Easy to infalate mattress with pump sack. Not for backpacking. More of a car camping use. I dampled this product indoors due to the midwest winter weather upon receipt. Its cushony, holds for a few days and was not affected by cat claws (so likely durable on rocky turrain). All in all I like this little mattress pad.

Best night’s sleep ever!

Seriously the most comfortable sleep I’ve had camping. The self inflating foam provides a cushy support. I’m a side sleeper and always wake up with sore hips with other mats. But not last weekend! The mat is the right mix of firm and cushy, with enough depth to keep my body off of the ground. I’m 5’7 and 160 with broad shoulders and the long x-wide fit my body perfectly. I think if you are anything more than slender, go with the long x-wide option for room to sprawl. The carrying case gives ample room to fit the mat back in the bag with literally no struggle of rolling and re-rolling. REI knew what they were doing when they made this mat! 10/10

Bulky, but oh so comfy!

We already have the older double version of this, so when I was offered the chance to review the single version I jumped on it. First things first, this is not a backpacking pad - it is large and stiff. It's not too heavy (only a few pounds), but it's awkward unless you're car/duffel camping. Now that that's out of the way - this pad is amazingly comfortable. It takes a while to inflate - there is a thirty minute resting period (as with most hybrid air pads, but then the included pump sack takes 4-6 full pumps to inflate, depending on your preference. Unlike the older model, the valves on this are each one-way: orange to inflate and grey to deflate. In two of my pictures you can see after 30 min of resting, and then inflation. I didn't experience any overnight deflation, other than my choice to soften the pad a bit when I realized it was too firm. I'm a fairly tall (6' 4") and somewhat heavy (>240#) side sleeper, so it was nice to wake up not feeling sore along my side - there's that much support and cushion. In the pro column, then, we have comfort level, insulation (I assume, but it stays reasonable here in WA), and ease of setup. It's also got plenty of room for your bag on top. On the con side, bulkiness not just in packing, but setup. You can see in one of the pictures that between this pad and our older basecamp, our (small) three-person tent was completely full, corner to corner. Consider a larger tent if you're a multi person crew. Overall - if you've got the space for it, this is a dream to sleep on!

I got this to replace an Exped MegaMat that I returned due to a manufacturing defect. I *loved* the MegaMat until it's unfortunate demise. Gotta say... this REI dupe is just as good at a better price. It inflates faster with the included pump bag, seems just as sturdy and well made, sleeps just as comfortably (which is basically as good as my bed at home), and even fits a little better in my car camp setup because it's 2" shorter than the XL MegaMat. Big fan. My dog sleeps in my sleeping bag with me on it and there's plenty of room for both of us to be comfortable and move around in the night.
