Big Agnes  Salt Creek 3 Tent

My 17 year-old son and I took this tent on an early June trip to Montana. We got snowed in for two days at high elevation. We were never cold. It held up perfectly through snow, hail and rain. I cannot say enough good things about this tent, the space it has and the room for your Gear.

I spent 2 months researching and deciding on this tent. I chose it over the REI Half Dome 3 person tent. I went on 4 camping trips with my daughter in 3 months and we loved the vestibule space as well as the extra rain/shade protection when using our walking sticks. When packing up our tent after our 4th trip, my daughter noticed many pin sized holes all over the floor of our tent. We always used a footprint underneath and never wore shoes inside the tent. We had only stayed in standard family camp spots with even and well maintained ground. I was shocked to discover the tent material already falling apart! REI was great at letting us return the tent, but I was extremely disappointed to have to do so. I thought I had found the perfect tent for us. I still use my REI family tent purchased in the 90s. I think I will go back to their brand for durability.

Love the salt creek tent. This edition had flaws in how the fabric was cut with frayed stuff and extra strings showing. The upgrade to the clips made me worry they would break because they are plastic. I did like the hinge system but wish it was metal where the tips of the poles are inserted. They got rid of the headphone opening in the upper inside pouch…while I never used it for headphones I did use it for charging cables. The rainfly is not multi colors on this version which makes set up harder. The pouch along the back wall appears to be solved at first glance on this model. It is more taught but sags the minute you put something in it. The string is attached better then the original model but they removed the loop that lets you pull it up…it now pulls to a side loop which does not solve the sagging. I used magnets to solve the broken string in the original version of this tent and it works much better for me as I sleep with my head under this part so I can look out the door window. It’s also heavier than the original version. The pole sack folds over instead of a draw string on the original version and I find this annoying. Not worth the cost or if you are looking for an upgrade to the original model

The best tent, so spacious and perfect for my partner and I. Hung up some mtnglo tent lights and it was so cozy!
