As an owner of ‘traditional’ sized Brompton bikes in both electric and non-electric versions, my experience with the new G Line electric has been fantastic. In my experience, the G Line is superior to traditional Bromptons in almost every way. Larger wheels and balloon tires allow me to ride where my 16” Brompton couldn’t go. Superior stopping with disc brakes, newer self-aligning hinge clamps, larger platform pedals, nice large roller wheels with bearings, a stronger quieter motor now in the rear hub for better traction, slightly larger battery capacity, handlebar controller, and more. My two criticisms are the larger folded size and slightly cumbersome removable left pedal (as opposed to the traditional folding pedal). I’ve had this bike for a month and time will tell, but so far I would highly recommend the Brompton G Line.
This is the most I’ve gotten compliments on my bike everywhere I go. It’s a crowd pleaser. Pros: - Folding functionality is sleek and nice I can bring my bike in with me (rather than lock it up outside). - Pedal assist is smooth not jerky. You can set it on 3 levels of assistance, or turn off and use as a regular bike. - Hills are easy - Disk breaks are great - Integrated lighting is great Neutral: - I’m 6”1’ 180lbs and ordered the large. I may have gotten away with a medium size. The “reach” is further on this bike than other Bromptons. Meaning you’ll be leaning forward more. Cons: - The battery didn’t recharge via USB C. It uses a proprietary charger, which I see is $200 to replace. - Wish it had a mirror to see the cars behind me Overall, if you’re willing to splurge on an e-bike I would recommend!
I would have given it 5 stars but the price made me give it 4.Rides well, easy to use, very lightweight when compared to other e-bikes , and two of them tuck away inside the van under the bed( perfect for van travelers) . No need for an expensive hitch rack.
