YETI Tundra 160 - Very Versatile Cooler/Ice Chest
After years of dissatisfaction with other lower quality ice chests I finally decided to take the plunge and purchase a YETI. The top three failure areas I think we all can agree on with lower quality coolers/ice chests are #1 The drain plug, #2 The locking mechanism, #3 The lid hinge, pretty much in that order. Of the top quality coolers/ice chests I was impressed most by the YETI drain plug construction. Once I received my Tundra 160 I was pleasantly surprised to find that not only did it have one well constructed drain plug, but TWO well constructed drain plugs, one on either end! I'm very happy about this. I like how quiet and secure the T-Rex Lid Latches are and how easy it was for me to reverse them to streamline the coolers profile. If there ever comes a time that I would need to change out the lid latches I feel that task will be unbelievably simple. The lid hinge, built like a tank!!! The final deciding factor that sealed the deal were the dividers. At the time of this review the Tundra 160 is the largest cooler/ice chest with the long and short dividers available. EXCELLENT feature!!! Divide the cooler/ice chest in half side to side with the short divider or the 40/60 (approximately) division front to back respectively with the long divider. The features and sound construction of this cooler/ice chest far exceeded any cooler/ice chest I've ever owned!!! I should not have waited this long to purchase my YETI cooler/ice chest!!!! (I would like to add a note for those planning on mounting the YETI bottle opener on the inside of the lid. Be mindful to mount the opener in such a way that it will clear both the wire basket and the long divider.)
Swiss Army knife of Coolers!
I’ve had this cooler for a couple years now and it has done more than just keep my food cold camping. I’ve used this as a temporary refrigerator for two weeks while waiting for a fridge on backorder. My city has a main waterline break that left us without water for six days. I was able to store over 35 gallons of water for washing dishes, flushing toilets, and showers for my pregnant wife and I. And currently we use it as a changing table for our new born baby. It’s the perfect height, ample storage, and when my boy pees on it I’m able to wipe it clean easier than a Swiffer commercial! This cooler has been a lifesaver and will get you out of a bind even when you don’t expect it!
Works great hot and cold!
This is a favorite of The Hog Whisperers championship BBQ team. I recently cooked in and won a competition/festival where I cooked 90 racks of baby backs ribs. This large quantity of ribs requires that I half cook several racks the day before. The Tundra 160 not only keeps the ribs safely warm over night, but the large size held 45 racks! This is key for my team to finish the cooking process the day of a festival. Not to mention the Tundra 65 and Roadie we use for cold beverages during those long smokes. The proof is in the hardware. Back to Back to Back East Tennessee rib champs! Thanks Yeti!
Lake Powell Houseboat Success
Bought the Yeti 160 specifically for a house boat trip to Lake Powell. The Yeti held ice for 7 days in 90 degree + temperatures and made the trip an amazing success!
Frat-Proof
I bought two of these for my fraternity to enhance our functions such as tailgates and parties. They have performed better than I could ever imagine. Aside from the fact that they keep beer and drinks colder than I have ever even imagined for about a week straight, they are absolutely indestructible. These things have been stomped on for hours as stages, thrown off of 25+ foot balconies, and have weathered anything else we can possibly imagine to throw at it perfectly. There is not a scratch on either of them. They are the first thing that I have ever seen that I can confidently say are "frat-proof." Buy a YETI cooler. You will not be disappointed
Worth every penny.
After having purchased both sizes of ramblers and the 40 bag I asked for a 160 as an early birthday present in preparation for a 3 day music festival. I took the online advice of using large sizes of ice and packed the yeti with three frozen gallon jugs as well as 3 cases of beverages and 3 large bags of ice. The temps were near 80 each day and even after opening the yeti close to 100 times each day when I returned home on the 4th day the yeti was still filled with plenty of ice. Two days later there is still a significant amount of ice left and the water is icy cold. I would recommend the 160 to anyone.
What a Great Cooler!
I have always wanted a Yeti cooler because of the great reputation of being rough & tough with incredible insulation. Well the story is True! This cooler is incredible. Five of us went on a 10 day camping excursion. I packed the cooler the night before with everything we needed. Used two 4 lbs & a 2 lb Yeti Ice on the bottom with 50 lbs of ice. This ice stayed frozen for days. For the first couple days we actually had to chip out cans of soda because they were frozen in place. Didn’t have to put in more ice until 9 days in and there was still some ice left on the bottom. Love this cooler. Only issue was the coolers weight, but mobility was easily solved with some aftermarket wheels.
Excellent cooler.
These coolers are definitely top of the line. I read all the reviews on them and their competitors. I already had the small yeti but needed something bigger. I decided to buy an rtic because they were suppose to be just as good. Man was I wrong. They are made alot cheaper and don't hold ice near as long. Next I bought a yeti 160 and I love it. It stays in the back of my Toyota that I use just for hunting and fishing. It keeps all my items cold when I go on my trips. Needless to say. I have an rtic cooler for sale if anyone wants it. Plan on my next cooler being a yeti 250.
3 deer and a hog, and still room to spare.
This is a great cooler for long hunting trips where multiple animals are being pursued. It kept meat cool (and mostly frozen) all the way from Georgia to Vermont, with a several day stop in Virginia, with very little ice needed or used. When fully loaded, the cooler size may require a two person lift.
Fish on!
Everything is as expected! A 100% quality piece of gear that will last a lifetime. Super pumped that it just fits in the back seat of my car (I had my doubts). It fits even better on the back of the boat! Perfect size for chonky Lake Trout, Kings, and Atlantics!
