Gotta do better chaco
I'm giving chaco one more chance. My last two pairs have fallen apart within a year of purchase and their 'warranty' department will find a way to not fufill it. I think they are comfortable sandals that do well in water and are great for hiking; but, they generally do not hold up if you are doing consistently strenuous hikes/walking in them daily which I feel like adventure sandals should be able to handle.
First Pair of Chacos
I have had these for about 6 weeks, and really like them. Based on my research, it seemed like the "cloud" version was the way to go. The sandals are really comfortable, and I would definitely consider another pair in the future. I like the arch support, and bought these in part to some plantar fasciitis I have been having. The only negative, is that the straps do take a bit to get broken in, as well as "dialed in" for the best fit. When I wore them the first time, I did get a small blister on the top of my foot where the straps cross in front of the ankle. I may have had them a bit too tight though.
Hiking or watersports
I bought these after trying many different types of water/hiking shoes. Simply put these are great. While enjoying water sports they stay put with out getting water logged. Also they have the best grip of any of the sandals/water shoes I've tried in wet conditions. As far as hiking, I haven't done much more than 4 or 5 miles at a time over moderately difficult trails, but I was really impressed with their grip and comfort (I do wear thin wool socks with them while hiking long distances.) Overall, I have no buyers remorse and have yet to find a flaw.
Inadequate service in defective sandal
All need is sole re-glued.Chaco wants $40 to replace both doles, which is not needed. Repairing them myself, but it will not last.
They work!
Started out skeptical, but am now pleasantly surprised. I wanted comfortable and water-friendly, and the local REI guy strongly suggested these. GOOD SUGGESTION! We just returned from 2 weeks in Maui, and they were JUST the ticket! Hiking was effortless (once on and adjusted.) I rock-scrambled up a creek, then jumped into a pool with a waterfall wearing these. THAT was a key requirement for me, and they performed perfectly. I didn't need to do a thing in the transition from trail to scramble to swimming and back again. They only feel heavy in my hand; I honestly didn't notice the weight on my feet. I did sunburn the tops of my feet (first world problem,) but it was actually worth it because of the 'few moving parts' aspect of these shoes. They definitely are my new go-to river sandals, but I'll likely use them for regular hiking, too.
I was hoping for a new experience
I needed new sandals to replace my 7 year old smelly Tevas. I really liked these Chacos, but within days of wearing them, my right foot was hurting on my inside arch near the Chaco fixed webbing. It constantly felt like my foot was balancing on a brick. They fit according to Chaco fitting guide and my foot was seated well in the sandal. I made adjustments to the webbing, pulling here and loosening there but to no avail. It got to the point where I couldn’t focus and enjoy a walk but instead was distracted by my expensive sandals that hurt. I also noticed the rubber was already separating from the sole. Today I returned them for a new pair of Tevas. Sorry Chaco you and Keen are on my do not buy list.
Big Hopes
I had big hopes for my 1st pair of Chaco's. My brother and Dad swear by them. Unfortunately I have never owned a more uncomfortable pair of footwear. To begin the straps were too long and dragged across the ground; which is "fixable", but not very well, by following the guidelines on the Chaco website. Next I thought to take them out for the afternoon to try them out at a street festival. Within 20 minutes they were rubbing my outer heel raw. In another 20 minutes my big toe was being rubbed raw on the opposite foot. I have thin feet and they must not be made for that as my brother has worn them exclusively for a decade.
Will not stay on
This is my second try at finding Chaocs that fit. I normally wear 9.5 - 10 depending and these were size 9. Certainly won't be looking for them again. There is so much excess over my foot that I can get more than two fingers in the gap and there is no way to adjust it to the actual strap around the ankle. The ankle is secured just fine; but, the rest of my foot is horribly loose. I've tried to add a photo 5 times, but I keep getting "an error has occurred".
Replaced 20 yr. old Chacos with Z/Cloud
I bought Chaco sandals many many years ago and have worn them until now when I bought new Z/Clouds, which are pretty much a perfect match for the old sandals. If you like an open-toed sandal with minimum shoe-like uppers, you will love these. They go forever. I've done light hiking, worn them in the gym for swimming and shower, walked around town. Freedom footwear and very well made. I had my last pair for twenty years before the sole separated from the upper. I'm pretty tough on footwear, and I would recommend these highly.
Long time buyer, but not anymore.
I've been wearing Chacos for years. Last couple pair the straps are of lower quality and don't last as long. Most recent purchase and the soles are coming unglued after less than a month. They're cutting corners and at this rate people are going to notice and stop buying them- just like me. Vibram soles were such a strong point for thiese sandals, but now they don't use them. One. Month.
