Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good performance, but uncomfortable. I had high expectations for these shoes. I purchased them for a waterfall tour on vacation last May and chalked up the investment as a part of vacation. I was excited to use them post-vacation for making my green belt hikes amphibious. They have great grip on wet rocks and performed as I hoped, but unfortunately they are uncomfortable to the point of pain after about 30 minutes and they became an expensive decorative piece for my closet for the last year. I'm not anxious to buy another pair of rugged water shoes after this experience, but if I do I will be looking to Keen and make particular note of the return policy just in case.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lace failure on first outing Buyer beware - there is a known issue with the lacing on the Outcross Evo 1. Pulling the laces snug can cause the lace to pull free from the toe, as the ends are simply stitched under the center tab vs. a continuous lace system. Happened to me on my first (totally mellow) outing. Contacted Chacos and verified the issue and saw it in a number of other reviews. Taking back to REI, but won't be replacing with the same item due to the number of other folks who have had exactly the same issue.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Busted lace on 3rd wear First and foremost, the staff at REI (both the location where I purchased and the location where I returned) were EXTREMELY friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. I bought these shoes to replace a 6-year-old pair of Merrells that finally bit the dust. The third time I wore these shoes one of the laces broke. Luckily I was only taking out the trash. Prior to that I had worn them for a very short bike ride and again for a trip to the park with my kids. I gotta take some of the blame, I normally do my homework on shoes, but this time did not. Seems many consumers had similar issues with the laces. I think that's the reason for the deep price discount. Returning them to REI was SUPER EASY. Even though I purchased them at a different location, didn't matter. They happily gave me a refund and I will be looking for another pair of Merrells.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great Shoe/ Poor Quality I got these about 2 weeks ago to take on a trip with me inclusive of some beach/hiking so these were the perfect solution. Unfortunately after the 2nd time I wore them the lace broke from the bottom where it is secured. This made it useless in terms of being able to tighten and thus were not of use to me anymore. Love the design and the function of these just wish the construction and quality didnt fail me.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Love doesn't last Read the reviews, figured I would try... really liked the shoes, fit was good! However within 30 minutes the tightening strap broke....of which was mentioned in other reviews. So opted to go with Keen sandles instead. REI was helpful and made return and ordering new shoes easy.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Uncomfortable, retains sand I bought these three months ago for kayaking. The shoe has no strap over the instep, so the heel eventually flops, causing the laces to loosen at the top (instep) and tighten at the ball of the foot, squeezing the toes to the point of discomfort. Also, sand and debris get into the shoe easily, but the shoe design traps it there, so it can't get out. You have to take the shoe off frequently to dump it. Main problem is lack of a solid instep strap.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Comfortable, lace broke I teach outdoor science classes, and needed a shoe that was professional-looking, but cool enough to be comfortable in Georgia's heat. This shoe fit well, and felt good on my feet after wearing it all day - a rarity for a teacher. I've since used them for traveling, and they've been quite comfortable and super easy for airport security. The only problem, like everyone else, is the lace broke - or more accurately, comes detached from the point where it is sewn in by the toe. On my first pair, the lace broke where it attaches at the toe within 4 hours of wear - right in the middle of a day of teaching. I walked into REI after work, pulled the offending shoe off my foot, and they gave me a replacement pair, no questions asked. Unfortunately, the lace detached again on the replacement pair while I was traveling out of state. I tied it down and went on with the trip. I called Chaco and they hemmed and hawed and said they couldn't do much. I again went back to REI when I got home. They agreed to replace the shoes again, but said if it happened again, they would strongly encourage a different shoe. And then, the third pair, and the secret to the lace not breaking: On the third pair, there was extra stitching over the loop by the toe where the laces are anchored. This pair has held for over a month of regular wear, and shows no sign of stopping. If you see an "X" over the lace loop by the toe, you're good to go and the lace won't break. If you don't, ask for another pair - one with the X of extra stitching. Happy with the shoe (now) and so pleased with REI's in-store customer service.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lace broke first time I touched water I brought this on a recent trip and was violently disappointed with how the shoe failed with nearly to no pressure applied. Basically, it's a design flaw where the ties are glued into the fabric in the bottom key hole. One side popped out and the shoe was done. You can't replace because they're glued. So silly! That being said, I found the shoe very comfortable and a great feel. The mesh was breathable while keeping out water silt and rocks. And they dried instantly. Without the obvious flaw, it was exactly what I wanted. I ended up checking out other Chaco's and found the same flaw in their water shoes. If they'd have a standard loop, I'd buy them again. I purchased a competitor's shoe which didn't dry, gave me blisters, allowed rocks in and cost the same. I was in the middle of a trip and needed something.... Insult to injury.
