My boyfriend and I bought 2 of these sleeping bags 2 years ago. Costly but I cant say I regret buying them. The best thing about this sleeping bag is that you can use it as a single sleeping bag or zip them together to make one large sleeping bag. On the bottom of the sleeping bag you can insert the Nemo sleeping pad (recommend xl sleeping pad) in the built in sleeve. Very comfortable and keeps you warm and dry. I hate camping in the cold and when it got down to 25 degrees, this sleeping bag made me feel as if I were sleeping in my own bed with my comforter. I would highly recommend this sleeping bag for couples that want to snuggle to make it into 1 large bag or if you want some space from your partner just use as it is, 1 bag. (smiley face)
I cannot say enough good things about this bag. I have slept in it in temps even lower than its rating and stayed warm and comfortable. Its like sleeping an a warm envelop that is light a fluffy. Plenty of room to move around inside it. The zippers stay zipped and the extra loft at the foot keeps toes comfortable. When the weather is nice just unzip. In pocket for your sleeping pad makes sure you never roll off the pad during the night. However, a 30" pad is necessary to get the best sleep and warmth. This is my 2nd year using this bag and I love it even more now than when I bought it.
I am 66 yrs old and a restless sleeper who has tried multiple sleeping systems over 45 years. The Mezzo Luxury combined with the Cosmo Insulated Air pad has been what I've been looking for. The most comfortable, roomy, feature packed, and easy to set system out there. Quality every where you look. More thought put into the Mezzo Loft bags than others I have used. Two zippers - perfect (and they don't snag), Room to roll over, side sleep, back sleep, belly sleep, pockets for light,& or glasses, hood holds the pillow from getting lost during the night. Pocket for the sleeping pad, valves within easy reach to adjust air pressure, the dump valve works great and dumps nearly all the air when laying on the mattress.
Bought this bag for my wife and myself for a 5-day trek in Peru. We absolutely loved this bag! Combined it with two REI InCamp 78"x25"x2.75" air sleeping pads. Note that these pads are 2" longer than the bag is rated for but they worked great. The combination of bag and pads made a luxurious couple's camp bed that is very roomy - when we wanted to go to our separate sides we had plenty of space. The two side zippers allowed us to independently control our temperature. This bag is also as light any two bag option I could find, even much more expensive down bags. Note that one minor issue is that the InCamp pads have click connectors so you can connect two pads together. These tend to get hung up when inserting the pads into the bag sleeves. Not a big deal, but you want to be careful not to force the pads or you might rip one of the sleeves. One option would be to cut the connectors off, which I have not yet done. As is mentioned in several other reviews, you are sleeping directly on the pads, with only a thin layer of fabric between your body and the pad. This is as designed. The downside is that there is no place for moisture from your skin to go, hence in warm weather it can feel a little sticky. In my experience that is simply one of the compromises you live with when camping (even if the bag had some insulation on the bottom it would not change things much), and one of the things I appreciate when I get home and can sleep in a regular bed. Overall this is by far the best bed couple's camp sleep system I have ever experienced.
Used this bag on a recent 4 day trip and it was great. Stuck a cosmoXL beneath it and felt like I was in a real bed the whole time. Temps only got into the 40s, but I felt good and didn't need to zip all the way up. I really like the pillow space so your pillows don't go everywhere while sleeping. A few other nifty hiding places too. I would recommend for any taller folk (I am 6 ft and had plenty of room) or people who like to sleep on their stomachs. I am ordering a second to connect them for camping with the lady.
Yes, a "Exped, Megamat 10, GREEN, Long Extra Wide" fit in this perfectly! I come from a family of engineers. Constantly thinking of ways to make things better, I have longed for such a bag for ages. This thing is wonderful! The only improvement I would suggest, is to make it possible to open at the feet all the way down to the corners, or across the bottom. Be delicate with the zippers, because they seem to snag a little bit easily, thankfully then unsung easily as well. But otherwise, this bag is perfect. The 30" wide means that I can actually roll over from side to side, without having to flip myself up in the air to do so. Another bonus, I am about 150 pounds, so there was plenty of room to snuggle with a child in this to read before sleeping. I am not sure if the excess space will make me cold if we go camping when it is colder, but at this point, I don't care. I was camping near San Diego,CA in June as opposed to up in the mountains or near the coast. I will just bring my extra down throw if I am worried if I actually do much more camping, and the tiny mummy bag liner I used to use on backcountry trips because I would cold easily my old mummy bag WITH a million layers on. (Am not that fond of roughing it, especially if I have to pack up cooking things and kitchen. So this made the thought of tent camping again palatable, though likely not backcountry camping for me anymore.) Paired with the Megamat, I didn't feel any of the sticks and weeds under our ungroomed camping space (with basic ground cover and tent). It was rather heavenly. My children spent our camping trip sliding off their mats. The one little one wound up in a heap in the bottom of our tent on a slight hill. They say they will not go camping again until they get ones like these too. So purchase at your own risk. Everyone will want them. ;-)
I used this for the first time last weekend. I am 6'4" and I had plenty of room...I love the zippers on both sides...I ordered it with air mattress...the larger size...worked great as a combo...and slept great. It was not that cold...around 48 Degrees, found myself sweating if I didn't open up the bag.
I just bought this bag and am extremely happy I did. It's everything I've ever wanted from a sleeping bag. I am a side/stomach sleeper, tend to spread out when I sleep, and can't stand to have a sleeping bag twist around or not have the ability to move my legs or roll over. There's room to roll around, kick a knee out, what have you. The dual zippers are really convenient and they don't snag--you can pick which side you want to unzip depending on your setup, or just unzip both sides and roll it down. The hood keeps your pillow in place AND allows me to stick my arm out from under my pillow without getting cold in the night! The stash pockets are actually useful and keep your phone, mp3 player, or glasses tucked nearby. The blanket flap that you can tuck under your chin is the cherry on top (super cozy). I won't be taking this out backpacking, but I CAN put it in my kayak and be super comfortable! I paired this with an existing 30" pad I have and it is the most comfortable camping experience ever. I don't know why I waited this long to buy this bag, it's perfect!
Warm in sub zero temps with a blanket liner more then enough room for a big man
After an absolute tonne of research I finally decided to settle on this bag due to the many favourable reviews of both the Mezzo Loft and Nemo products, it's compatibility with XL sleeping pads and it's large, roomy cut which makes it ideal for tall/large people. Pros: *Large and roomy enough for two people (I'm 6'4'' and my partner is 5'10'') so you probably won't need to buy an additional bag to zip up. *Perfectly fits a Nemo XL Cosmo sleeping pad and can be combined with another Mezzo Loft. *Clever design and made with quality materials. *One of the few bags out there that caters for large people. *Double zips and chest flip helps you control the temperature inside the bag. Cons: *On the large side when packed down. You'll probably want to purchase a compression sack like a Sea to Summit eVent to really make it practical for backpacking. *The square cut shape means you lose a lot of heat in the legs so it's probably not the best for cold nights unless you want to layer up. On the flip side because of this it can be pushed into summer use and is actually versatile depending on what you wear to bed. *Because theres absolutely no filling on the back it really needs to be used with a sleeping pad. *The colour scheme-ughhh! :-P Conclusion: Overall it's a great bag and I'm happy with my purchase. I'll be using the Mezzo Loft Luxury until I upgrade to something more specialized but I'd say it's the better suited for couples than the large/tall solo backpacker/traveller.
