Nice jacket
Thanks to El Nino, I've gotten a lot of use out of this jacket in the past few weeks. It's very lightweight so it's easy to take along "just in case" and then wrap around your waist or stuff in your running vest if you don't need it. I wore it in a steady rain for four hours, and it held up until about the last hour, when the rain really started coming down. Good enough! It's also a nice layer for just a little added warmth and wind protection because it's relatively breathable. It's cute too! Nice cut. The reflective strip, high on the back, is pointless because the hood covers it -- there should be some reflection lower down the back.
This really works!
So far I've worn this jacket twice and couldn't be more pleased. First time on vacation in Bora Bora. Tropical rain storm and warm. Kept me dry and it wasn't hot like my husband's regular weight rain jacket (so perfect for travel since it's lightweight) And then just yesterday - steady hard drizzle with wind. Once again I was dry. I saw the beading on the sleeves and was amazed. Now, would I pay full price? Not sure. I did get it for about $60 using my dividends and $20 off from REI. The regular price is a little steep. Size wise I recommend going up a size from your shirt size. I normally wear a small but with this I wear a medium
Superb product!!
My sister and I purchased Houdinis on the recommendation of a trusted friend. They performed very well in the conditions we encountered. They repelled light rain, broke the wind, and were breathable when the hiking was more rigorous. Packs up compactly into its own pocket, handy loop to hang from a carabiner, very lightweight. My sister and I can be very particular about our gear. These rocked!!
Best Running Jacket Ever
If you're looking for the perfect running jacket, look no further. Upon first glance, you might think this thin jacket is a joke, but the way it cuts the wind is absolutely no joke. I've worn in crazy wind, rain, and icy rain and not been let down. It isn't a heavy-rain jacket, but at that point you're going to get wet either way. When I'm running, I don't like to mess with my hood so I really appreciate how the hood stays in place when it's zipped up. I've also bailed on it mid-run when I get hot, and it packs so small to fit in the pocket of my leggings or in my waistband without trouble or annoyance. It keeps heat without weight, and I'm not sure how I ever ran in the cold/wind/rain without it.
great jacket!
This makes for a very nice light weight jacket - just what I was looking for to wear when I take my dogs out when it's cool but I know it will warm up quickly. Fit - slim but not so fitted that it's hard to zip up. And the fabric seems to be more durable than it looks - so far it has withstood some rough housing with the dogs. The blue is not as bright as it looks in the photo - I think it's very nice. One small pocket on the chest (for doggy bags). I wish there were actual pockets for a cell phone and keys but the weight of all this would probably ruin the jacket. The more I wear it, the more I Iike it!
Bug defender
I purchased this before a backpacking trip to the North Cascades, where the flies and mosquitoes have a reputation all their own. When we stopped for lunch, and in the evening before dinner, I would throw this jacket on to avoid the noxious insects, with great success. Even when it was >80 degrees, this jacket was not too hot. It seems to breathe well, unlike other wind jackets that feel like you're wearing a plastic bag. Throughout my trip, clouds threatened rain, and this 3oz miracle blocked the cold winds near the tops of the passes. Overall, I was very pleased with this jacket. My only beef with the jacket (and all Patagonia products) is that it is a short cut for a person with a long torso, and the sleeves are always short. I am 5'8, 140#, slender/athletic build, and the medium fits well enough.
Survived a freezing deluge!
I just ran the '18 Boston Marathon, which was 30mph headwinds and a downpour of freezing rain with temps in the 30s the entire race. I wore just this with a Merino wool baselayer underneath, and my arms and torso stayed warm the whole time. The hood was pulled over my baseball hat and stayed put despite the strong winds, keeping my head warm as well. I never had to adjust it or fuss with it. I was also able to stuff a few gels and a packet of chews into the chest pocket for easy access in bad conditions, which was a lifesaver not having to fumble with cold fingers. It's hard to believe such a lightweight jacket could withstand those elements, but I am SO glad I wore it and avoided hypothermia largely because of it.
Stowable and perfect for moderate wind and showers
I bought this specifically to keep in my purse at all times. It doesn't take up much room at all, it's incredibly lightweight and the wrinkles relax and fade with body heat when I wear it. This jacket enhances the warmth any long sleeve by serving as a windbreak, and the DWR works very well for scattered showers. Although I can't attest to wearing it in rain for over 10 minutes, I will say it served as excellent rain protection for that amount of time. I'm 5'1", 135#, typically wear small in North Face and I bought the French Red Houdini Jacket in XS because I wanted it to be form-fitting. I can fit this over a long sleeve shirt or a fleece pullover, but it would not fit over a jacket. Size up if you want to wear it over a base layer, fleece and vest.
Great little jacket
Just picked this up at my local store and love how lightweight and packable it is. Glad I went to the store to try it on first because like most windbreakers and jackets these days it was snug in the hips. I like to be able to layer so I prefer a roomier fit. I am 64" and 125# and usually wear a medium but had to get a large to feel comfortable. I like the longer length in the rear. The other issue is that it does not have a flap behind the zipper so that may allow an air leak on windy days. I wore it out walking today and yesterday and am pleased with my purchase.
Holds up to the rain
I bought this for a trip to Hawaii. I went to Oahu and Hilo on the Big Island. The rain I came across was more than a mist. This jacket did it's job and held up even with the heavy rains that I encountered. It kept me dry without becoming overheated in a warm environment. The fact that is can be compressed into it's own pocket makes it perfect for travel. I would definitely recommend this jacket. It is well worth the money.
