Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice jacket Thanks to El Nino, I've gotten a lot of use out of this jacket in the past few weeks. It's very lightweight so it's easy to take along "just in case" and then wrap around your waist or stuff in your running vest if you don't need it. I wore it in a steady rain for four hours, and it held up until about the last hour, when the rain really started coming down. Good enough! It's also a nice layer for just a little added warmth and wind protection because it's relatively breathable. It's cute too! Nice cut. The reflective strip, high on the back, is pointless because the hood covers it -- there should be some reflection lower down the back.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bug defender I purchased this before a backpacking trip to the North Cascades, where the flies and mosquitoes have a reputation all their own. When we stopped for lunch, and in the evening before dinner, I would throw this jacket on to avoid the noxious insects, with great success. Even when it was >80 degrees, this jacket was not too hot. It seems to breathe well, unlike other wind jackets that feel like you're wearing a plastic bag. Throughout my trip, clouds threatened rain, and this 3oz miracle blocked the cold winds near the tops of the passes. Overall, I was very pleased with this jacket. My only beef with the jacket (and all Patagonia products) is that it is a short cut for a person with a long torso, and the sleeves are always short. I am 5'8, 140#, slender/athletic build, and the medium fits well enough.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stowable and perfect for moderate wind and showers I bought this specifically to keep in my purse at all times. It doesn't take up much room at all, it's incredibly lightweight and the wrinkles relax and fade with body heat when I wear it. This jacket enhances the warmth any long sleeve by serving as a windbreak, and the DWR works very well for scattered showers. Although I can't attest to wearing it in rain for over 10 minutes, I will say it served as excellent rain protection for that amount of time. I'm 5'1", 135#, typically wear small in North Face and I bought the French Red Houdini Jacket in XS because I wanted it to be form-fitting. I can fit this over a long sleeve shirt or a fleece pullover, but it would not fit over a jacket. Size up if you want to wear it over a base layer, fleece and vest.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Running Jacket Ever If you're looking for the perfect running jacket, look no further. Upon first glance, you might think this thin jacket is a joke, but the way it cuts the wind is absolutely no joke. I've worn in crazy wind, rain, and icy rain and not been let down. It isn't a heavy-rain jacket, but at that point you're going to get wet either way. When I'm running, I don't like to mess with my hood so I really appreciate how the hood stays in place when it's zipped up. I've also bailed on it mid-run when I get hot, and it packs so small to fit in the pocket of my leggings or in my waistband without trouble or annoyance. It keeps heat without weight, and I'm not sure how I ever ran in the cold/wind/rain without it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makes running in the rain wonderful! I recently ran a full marathon wearing this jacket. It rained, hailed, and was very windy. I was very thankful I had invested in this jacket. It kept me warm and dry and the marathon was actually very fun. I highly recommend this jacket!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Holds up to the rain I bought this for a trip to Hawaii. I went to Oahu and Hilo on the Big Island. The rain I came across was more than a mist. This jacket did it's job and held up even with the heavy rains that I encountered. It kept me dry without becoming overheated in a warm environment. The fact that is can be compressed into it's own pocket makes it perfect for travel. I would definitely recommend this jacket. It is well worth the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great travelling Jacket Bought this jacket for my trip to Spain for hiking/backpacking around the southern parts. Did not disappoint! I'm 4'11" 100lbs and the XS fits just about right. I packed it in its pocket while not using. It un-wrinkles very fast. Proved to be helpful during winds, sudden occasional rain showers, and warmth. Highly recommend to anyone!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Jacket I bought this jacket for hiking and it's worked out great. It's just the right weight to block the wind and sun without causing me to overheat and easily rolls up to stow away. The color and fit are great, and the jacket seems to be well constructed. The only complaint I have is with the size of the pocket. I wish it was larger so that I could easily fit my phone in there.

I'm going on a trip to Iceland this summer. It should be around 40-55 degrees and I'm doing some glacier hiking. Would jacket work? Would it be warm enough?

Asked by: Singintherain14
We did the Laugavegur and Fimmvorduhals trek in August 2016.  While there were definitely cooler areas at times, I was comfortable with a wool long sleeve and a down vest most of the time but also carried a Patagonia waterproof rain jacket for the rain/snow.  The Houdini is pretty light weight and only water resistant so you would need to layer substantially if this was the only outer piece you brought.

Hi, could you give me the actual jacket measurements for the Patagonia Houdini women's size L and XL ? when the jacket is lying flat, measurement across waistband of jacket and under the arms. Thank you. Bonnies

Asked by: bonnies
The size large measures 22 inches across both the hem and the chest, while the extra-large measures 23 inches across both the hem and the chest.

If I order up a size, would a hydration pack fit ok underneath?

Asked by: trailmikes
Depending on the hydration pack it is likely it will fit okay if you order 1 size larger than your standard size.

Hi, I'm a size 6 and am not sure whether to go for a size S or M in the jacket to run in. Patagonia tend to run big but am I right in thinking that this jacket runs small and I should get the M?

Asked by: Trailgal
This jacket fits similarly to other Patagonia clothing and does not run small. For the best fit, we recommend comparing your body measurements to the measurements in the size chart.
