Seriously waterproof pants
Living in the Pacific Northwest, I am very accustomed to rain, and I think this is the first shell I’ve bought (coat or pants) that I can really call waterproof. I’ve taken these up a mountain in some pretty heavy wind/snow, and even when my ‘waterproof’ jacket soaked through, my lower half stayed completely dry. I have seen the outer fabric appear to get wet in places, but I’ve never had an issue with moisture getting inside. Only design issue would be that the waist drawcord is made of a slick material, and requires a double knot to keep from coming undone. I am 5’4 and 120lb, and the small fits perfectly, and gives ample room for insulation layers.
Light, durable, and waterproof
I bought these for a wet, muddy hiking trip, and they performed perfectly. I was in moderate to heavy rain for 3 to 5 hours, in a very muddy area, and stayed dry. The material is very light weight; a huge plus over other rain gear that I checked out. I've had the H2No jacket for years, and it is fabulous. I've beat it up; tying it to my waist, using it as an apron when I was using classifying screens for precious gems, and wearing it at least 100 times. It's still in great shape; no seam wear, still waterproof.
Great for rainy hiking
I just got back from a multiday backpacking trip where it rained the entire time, often pretty hard. I wore these pants the whole time that I was hiking and my legs remained absolutely dry. Seriously, I wasn't even damp under them. I didn't think that was possible. They seemed pretty windproof as well, because my legs never got cold even with winds ~40 mph. My legs never felt constricted and the pants seem to be really durable. The knees were able to take lots of abuse, and walking along trails that were at times overrun with thorny brush didn't even seem to cause any abrasion. The features are well thought out. They stuff easily into their own pocket, they have a drawstring around the waist, and the side zips make it easy to put them on over shoes and to cool off. The only thing I wish these had was a comfy liner on the inside of the waistband. It wasn't a big deal, but the waistband was at times uncomfortable under my pack. All in all, I highly recommend these.
very waterproof, but baggy if you're petite
They're waterproof, but because they are so baggy and too long on me, they collect water in all the bunching of the material. I understand rain pants should have room for your other layers of clothing, but these are way too roomy. Also, there isn't much width in the opening at the bottom for slipping over your boots. I have to remove my boots to put these on.
impressed
folds into it's own pocket making it super portable and small. Used it glissading down Mt St Helens and they held up great , no scratches and I stayed dry. Not difficult to pull on y over women's size 10 1/2 winter boots.
Really cuts the wind
I bought these pants to take backpacking in Patagonia and they worked really well. They definitely cut the wind and kept me from getting cold without having to add a lot of weight in layers. I also really liked being able to zip open the sides to vent. The pants pack up easily and I would definitely recommend them.
Protects against dog bites too
I recently bought these pants before a camping trip to the Oregon coast. Rained every day. Pants kept me totally dry. I also got bit by a dog while wearing these pants and the dog bite did not penetrate the pants! Not a hole or tear in the pants. Seriously, these pants saved me from the possibility of having to get expensive rabies vaccines. Also saved me from a lot more stress than what was already involved. I’m sold on Patagonia products after this! Thanks Patagonia!
