Rated 2 out of 5 by from Dumb magnet design This pack system has two design features that are too clever by half. The first is the clamp system that holds the bag to the rack rail and supports all the weight. It's a spring-loaded contraption that twists plastic screw-type clamps. It failed at the beginning of my trip when I was forced off the road onto a bumpy shoulder.(One of the clamps got detached, but the bag didn't fall off because the other clamp held.) I reattached it and didn't have any more problems. The really dumb design feature consists of two magnets that attach to either side of the rack. They're supposed to stick to thin steel sheets sewn into the inside panels of the bags and keep them from flopping around. The magnets are strong and stick to the bags pretty well, but there's no way to attach the magnets firmly to the rack. They cinch on with plastic clamps that you tighten with a screw, which grip rubber sleeves, which grip the rod of the rack. There's not enough friction, so the slightest bump provides enough torque to knock the magnets sideways, making them useless. So there's nothing to keep the bags from flopping around unless you secure the bottoms with bungies or something. The bags themselves seem tough enough.

I noticed in the picture that there is an added block to brace the bag from hitting the wheel.  Does that item come with the bags or the rack?

Asked by: Dave
The block is on the rack itself, not the panniers. You can find the Thule Pack 'n Pedal Tour Bike Rack online here:
