Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great low-profile PFD I could not find this PFD in any local REI stores, so I took a chance and ordered it online, knowing that as an REI member, I could return it for a full refund to any REI store for up to one year. Sizing: A concern I had was that on Stohlquist's website, their sizing for this particular PFD stated that the size LG/XL fit chest sizes 40-46", and XXL fit 48-54". I am right around 46-47" and thought I'd take a chance on the LG/XL. What I actually received was the XXL (it's what is printed on the inside of the back of the PFD). It turned out that it wasn't a problem, I could tighten it down more than enough and the added flotation (•LG/XL:16 lbs, 8oz, XXL: 17 lbs, 8oz, per Stohlquist's website) did not seem overly bulky or inhibit my range of motion at all. It is a great PFD. I am happy with it and will not be returning it. Performance: I was looking for a low-profile PFD after trying a few different types at my local REI. I really liked the uninhibited movement from the low-profile NRS Ninja I tried on, but I wanted something with at least one decently sized pocket, that I could hold my phone, chap stick, snack, and other items in and not have to squeeze them in every time. I do a combination of flat water kayaking and some river running/Class I-III whitewater. This PFD worked great on my first test in the Potomac River. I had full range of motion, it was very comfortable, and I was able to fit essential items in the nice top-loading pocket. I repeatedly took my large Samsung GS5 (with case) out of the pocket to take many pictures. The pocket works great, and for more leisurely paddles/floats, it seems big enough to be able to squeeze a beer can in if you need both hands. I should mention that I used this PFD with my Jackson Rouge 10, which is a sit-inside, crossover kayak (whitewater/touring). As a sit-inside, it has a deeper seat with an adjustable back band. The Stohlquist Edge PFD did not interfere with the back band, and would not interfere with a spray skirt, although I forgot mine that day. I also own a Wilderness Systems SOT with a high seat back, and have not taken it out with this PFD on yet. However, I played around with the straps on the PFD and it is pretty adjustable in terms of height, so you could probably wear it lower on your torso if you wanted a little extra padding between you and a high seat back. Conclusion: I would recommend this PFD to anyone looking for a low-profile PFD and wants a decent pocket that is easy to use. It seems pretty adjustable, and is very comfortable. I didn't even think about taking it off over the course of my 3.5 hour paddle last weekend. Great product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfort with nice features I needed this for a 30 mile river trek down the Colorado - the pocket is what really interested me as I was responsible for navigation. It worked even better than I hoped with the ability to access the pocket easily. The fit was nice with 4 strap points and a zipper release. It was a little difficult to tighten them all at first, but you get used to it. Floats well when we did some water exercises. I am happy with the purchase.

Will this jacket fit a woman 5'0" and 115lbs for a sit-in kayak? If so, what size? 34" bust

Asked by: Sassy Hiker
Based on the measurements listed in the size chart, a S/M will work best for you. The men's PFD does work for women as well, but you may want to consider purchasing a women's specific PFD as it is better contoured and will fit more comfortably.

Chest measures right at 39" wearing a t-shirt. 5'6" 144 pound male. Would it be best to size up to L/XL?

Asked by: Marty67
We recommend the L/XL if you plan on using heavier layers. If you are using lighter layers then the S/M is the way to go.
