Took these on a 5 day hike in Wyoming where the weather had crazy fluctualtions and these pants were super comfy doing 6-9 mi/day. I was concerned about the slim leg/ zipper area because I thought it might rub and be annoying but it did not- pretty stretchy- don't know what they did to it, but it's great. Also love the stylish slim fit through the leg. I am normally a size 2 in jeans but ordered a 4. 5'4.5" and 115 lbs.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've always dreamed of having these pants and I'm very happy to have made it. Very comfortable, practical and very versatile. Two pieces in one!
These pants were really comfortable, worked well for everything I had in mind on an active vacation...as long as I was standing. Problem is, they aren't built for anyone with thicker legs. I'm not especially thin but not large either and as others have said, I needed to up a size just to get them to fit. I really should have gone up 2 sizes so that I could sit comfortably but then would have needed a belt. The zipper legs have absolutely no give and strangle my thighs when I sit down. Non-convertible pants would have been a better option. The fabric does pill after a good amount of wear but they are very soft which is a little uncommon for outdoor fabrics.
I’ve had these pants for less than two months. I was excited I found some lightweight convertible pants so I bought 3 pairs in different colors. I’m a very active person and all three pairs of pants have ripped at the seam in the same exact spot. If it was one pair I could understand it but all 3 in the same spot? It’s just showing how poorly these were made. The other seams are also starting to fall out already. If you’re not very active these may be great for you but not for me unfortunately.
I bought these pants for a trip in the Boundary Waters and they were more than perfect for the trip. I wore them all 4 days of the trip. They are rain-resistant which helped with all of the dewey plans we were walking through. While after awhile they ended up soaking through, they dried quickly. They didn't stain very easily either. They were comfortable and being able to zip them off at the knee was nice when sitting in the sun. I went up a size because they were tight in the knee area, but then the waist was a little big - my pack helped keep them in place though. I'll for sure be buying another pair!
I tried these on in the store and walked around in them for 5 minutes. At first I was really pleased that the slim fit was really flattering, unlike many convertible pants. Then the leg zippers started to rub against my legs, raising concerns about chafing while wearing for any length of time. And when I removed the lower legs, the resulting shorts resembled cycling shorts (spandex). Not particularly flattering on my 53 year old legs. Which aren't particularly heavy; I'm 5'8 and 128 lbs. To get a looser fit in the legs would require going up a size, and then the pants were way to big in the waist and hips. Oh well. I ended up buying a similar, non-convertible Columbia pant and am very pleased with those. This model may be good for others but didn't work for me.
I bought these for a backpacking trip because they were soft, stretchy, and the lower legs zipped off. I am 5'6" 120 pounds and muscular (rock climber and backpacker) and the 2 was too small. The zippered legs were so tight I couldn't bend my legs. I went up to a 4 and the waste was about perfect when I bought them. The zippers were a little looser so I thought they would work. However with my pack on, the waste stretched out immediately and the zippers dug into my legs while hiking up steep canyons. These pants aren't for an athletic body at all and might not even work well for people skinnier than me. They also started pilling on the thighs after one night. -_- Might be better for regular hiking on flat surfaces when you don't have to bend your legs much.
I wore these pants backpacking in Yosemite recently. I really love the stretch and the length of the shorts. I am 5'8" and 134 lbs and wear a size 8 regular. The shorts came about 6 in above my knee. The pants are trim fitted with a comfortable waist. I was worried that the lightweight fabric wouldn't hold up wearing a backpack and sitting on granite for three days, but they held up fine. I also really loved the zip elastic cord at the ankle, I cinched the hem around my boots to keep dirt and brush out and it worked great! I am ready to buy another pair, love the grey color!
I already own multiple pairs of Saturday Trail shorts and Silver Ridge convertible pants so thought this would be the best of both worlds. I may have an older style of the shorts but the design of the front and side pockets is different and the pants come up really high in the back. I preferred the old design. As others have commented, they are tight around the zipper unlike the other convertible pants I own. Not so bad that I won't wear them. The material and fit are nice. I am 5'2", 120-125 lbs and wear a 4 short. I did not have a problem with the size. Unless you have skinny legs, I would recommend the Silver Ridge convertible pants over these.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Was expecting a lighter gray color. True to size and a nice fabric.
