How to set up your REI Co-op Half Dome tent for the first (or fifty-first) time. Watch the video above.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tent, a little heavy I use this tent to sleep 2 adults and a dog at our feet. The tent is very durable and easy to setup. I split the load between two packs to lighten individual pack weight. Becuse of tent's durability, weight is increased. The double vestibule and doors are great. Internal storage compartments are very nice. In this tent, there are 4 side ones, plus an overhead one. I would chose another 2 person tent if it was just me backpacking, but a spacious durable tent is the design objective. Use of a footprint is also a good recommendation with any lighter tent. Overall, a great tent, but be aware of pack weight verses other available tents.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best for car camping and simple backpacking! I have spent about 20 nights in this tent in the wind snow and rain and for the price it has been unbeatable. I would absolutely recommend this tent for anyone who is looking to break into backpacking, as it is simple well priced and comfortable. pros - plenty of space for 2 people with backpacks or a dog - simple and quick setup. - keeps the elements out cons - too heavy for solo backpacking trips - high winds can cause issues, pegs/guyline setup is sub-par - ceiling vents can create minor issues with rain leakage, usually an easy fix though If you are looking for something that is easy to spend a lot of time in, this tent is a great choice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Half Dome 2 + great value great price I chose the REI Half Dome 2 plus because of the excellent room, advaced features such as two vestibules...very nice. mesh pockets overhead and four corners. Doors are spacious and easy to operate and enter. Setup is extremely eash and I like alternate setup with just the optional rainfly and floor only. Many faulted the stakes in previous reviews but the stakes are fine. I added my own guy ropes to insure a sturdy tent. I tested the tent in a 10 hour thunderstorm night with high winds and hard rain. Stayed completely dry and no leaks. Very pleased with this tent. Will recommed to my friends as an excellent tent for car camping, bike camping and most backpacking trips.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great everything I actually have an older version of this tent - they have trimmed 10 oz for the new 2015 half domes 2 and 2+. That being said, I love this tent so much I am happy to carry the weight when I go backpacking. I can easily fit myself, my boyfriend, and my 60 lb dog in this tent. It's easy to set up, it has two doors, nice vestibules, and the right amount of mesh to keep it airy and open in the summer, but not too much to where we can't take it out in early spring or late fall. For the price, this is a great tent in terms of size, features, and weight. I prefer the dome shape for having more room to sit up and move around.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible value; well designed with many options This tent is an amazing value. It sets up very easily and quickly, and the two doors allow tent buddies to get in and out easily without waking each other up. Each person can also access their own gear stored in the vestibule, but the "Plus" size allows for lots of space to spread gear out inside. I love that the fly can be fully set up but then rolled up halfway to allow for ventilation, making it super fast to cover the tent completely if rain starts. I like that it has a more visually blending-in green/olive version in addition to the other colors. Finally, using the REI groundcloth with the poles and fly will make for an even lighter weight option when bugs aren't a problem. There are lighter weight options out there, but this is a sweet tent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this tent! This is the 2013 version. I'm so glad I bought the extra length - it's nice to be able to keep our duffle bags and packs inside the tent. It's been rained on several times this summer, with nary a drop inside the tent. If you stake the fly out properly, the tent ventilates well. The wee storage pocket at each tent corner is super handy, as are the two storage pouches/shelves at the top of the tent. A lot of thought and design has gone in to this tent, and the current model design benefits from lessons learned from earlier versions. I consider this tent an incredible bargain. My girlfriend bought a Marmot Limelight 2P at the same time I bought this tent; we like the Half Dome 2 Plus so much her tent hasn't even been pitched yet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beyond Pleased! I've read all the reviews, and watched a ton of YouTube videos for this tent before making my purchase. Having just used it for the first time this past weekend, I am beyond pleased! Having upgraded from a Coleman Max 2 "backpacker tent", This is a real 2 person tent. My girlfriend, my 11 week old lab mix puppy, and myself were very comfortable. I'm 6'2" and in the Coleman Max 2 I had to sleep corner to corner, and I still touched the ends... Love the size, pockets, and dual vestibule. I would recommend this tent to all of my friends.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tent for the price point Pros: This tent has a lot of nice features for the price point. The "plus" size is just what I was looking for. At 6'4", I fit great in this tent and do not touch the sidewalls when laying down. Lots of internal storage pockets. A bit on the heavy side for a solo tent, but fine for two person trips (split the weight). Having two doors is nice as well. Cons: I wish REI sold other colors in the store, or at least sell the rain fly separate so I can choose my color. The footprint for this tent always seems to be out of stock. I just bought a universal size tarp footprint (at half the cost).

Why is it so difficult to clip & un-clip the rain fly tabs into the tent poles up top?. Our local REI store told us that was the design & just to not attach the rain fly to the tent poles. Is the truly the design intent you all had in in mind?

Asked by: applesaucekitchen
We have not heard any feedback that it is excessively difficult to attach the rainfly tabs to the tent poles. The rainfly is designed to be taut across the top of the tent.

Since no gear shed / porch is made for this model, can you recommend one that might work? When it's raining, it's impossible not to leave the tent without getting all the items / area in the vestibule wet.

Asked by: Beazors
If you are thinking of a footprint extension, then I suggest a bit of Tyvek (used for external shielding of houses, above studs, below finishes, waterproof and pretty light) cut in the triangle of each vestibule... I would advise making doubly sure that such a thing is well inside of the drip line of the vestibule, and tucked in *under* the groundsheet proper of the tent...

What are the guylines for?  They don't seem necessary?

Asked by: AhYesTheGreatOutdoors
The guylines that come with Half Dome 2 Plus can be used to better secure the tent in windy conditions. The are 10 guyout points on the rainfly.

The rainfly has a cord hanging down from the middle of it in the interior. what is it for?

Asked by: garciab05
The cord that you are referring to will allow you to roll up the rainfly on the Half Dome 2 Plus to allow for star gazing.

How to repack half dome 2+ tent after initial unpack and setup.  What is the secret?  I get tent, pegs and poles in the sack but not the rainfly.  Have the same issue with my sleeping bag.  Stuff sacks are small.

Asked by: Twilke46
This tent can be easily packed by folding and rolling the tent body and then folding and rolling the fly around the rolled tent body.

Is there a creative way to tie back and hold the tent door open? The door really gets in the way when trying to set up gear inside the tent.

Asked by: Campfire Guy
I keep a couple of plastic clothespins with me and use those to quickly clip up both the rainfly and/or the tent door as needed if I only need either to be open/out of the way for less than a minute - otherwise the loop and toggle work well but probably it's just me, fumbling a bit to get those on and off takes longer than the time I need to keep the door open or fly out of the way. mmv as they say... :-)
