Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dont buy this compass if accuracy is important I used this compass for a navigation class recently and abandoned it half way through. The "no tool" squeeze declination adjustment took four people almost an hour to adjust. After that, when trying to get a bearing on several points, I noticed that when I tried to house the needle, the needle would move with the casing. Just an awful compass all around. Another person had the same one and it exploded when they tried to adjust the declination (all parts came loose and were not able to reassemble). Save the return trip, just buy something else. It gets one star for being cheap. But you get what you pay for.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from So frustrating to adjust declination I bought this as an upgrade to my inexpensive mirrorless compass, which works fine but sighting accuracy is a little tricky. Unfortunately, this compass has a frustrating "tool-free" declination adjustment "feature" that is impossible to use. It is both incredibly fiddly and requires superhuman finger strength. If you even get the dial to move, it is impossible to set it with any accuracy. I am in tears trying to get this to work. What dumb design. This is going back to the store. It's too bad that this product design sucks because I was happy to buy an American made item.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Inexplicable failure I bought this as a replacement for my antique Silva Ranger. It developed a bubble within a couple of months while sitting indoors. Interestingly, I have a met station which provides hour by hour temperature for in interior of the building so I am certain it was never exposed to temperatures above 60 degrees F and below 38 degrees F. Totally unacceptable performance. I will be taking it for replacement next trip to town.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Problematic Construction First I should mention I have minimal experience with compasses. I bought this one hoping to increase my skills. I love this compass BUT I could not get the tool-less declination adjustment to work, even with help from store personnel. Darn.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The San Gabriel's I love this compass... I've heard people having problems with bubbles and other stuff like declination adjustment.. It is a little tricky but very doable.. No bubbles here.. This thing works good.. I love Brunton.. Compasses..

Rated 3 out of 5 by from First compass with a mirror This was the first compass that I have had that contained the sighting mirror. I always thought it wasn't worth the additional cost. But after using this compass for the last month, I am so glad I got one with a mirror. It makes life so much easier and keeps you moving when you're out on the the trail. Outside of the mirror, this is a solid compass. I have had some issues with the needle jumping around (hence the 3 star) but it overall, it's a good buy.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Declination issues Not only is the declination difficult to set, but the markers are only protected by a flimsy sticker. It doesn't take much use for that sticker to come off and then the declination markers wear away, too. Better to get something else.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor purchase Inaccurate. The clinometer is off when you use the mirror.
