Almost perfect
Lots of padding protects areas that experienced chaffing with other harnesses. Relatively rugged construction, seems like it will stay in one piece for a while. Lots of positive comments at the dog park, other dog owners are always asking about it. Minor complaints, I wish the hidden ID pocket was more noticeable. I leave a bit of the tag attachment string hanging out but it doesn't help much. There is small "ID" text near it but I doubt a stranger would notice it. I also wish there was a better way to attach a LED for night time visibility. There is a loop by his chest but he isn't a huge fan of things dangling while he is running around playing. Maybe Ruffwear can design their own LED system in the future? 5/5 - Very happy, though there is room for improvement in the future. Will buy an improved v2 if/when it comes out.
Comfortable fit for all day wear
Our pup is an active Catahola. He enjoys ever moment he can be with us hiking , climbing, and romping in the water. This harness has been the first (and only) one he looks forward to putting on. Others he would back away from, and would only be able to wear for an hour before irritation from rubbing would set in. Gus is able to keep his Ruffwear harness on for 8-10 hours with no irritation. We also appreciate the quick release safety application located at the dorsum aspect of the harness. We "shopped around" for over 3 months searching for a reasonably priced harness with a comfortable fit. Why we didn't think to look at Our Favorite Store first still has my husband and me dumbfounded :) Highly recommend for medium to large active dog !!!!!
Allows for control
This is my second purchase of this harness. I like it because its sturdy. It gives me the option of hooking the leash to the front or the back. My dog is a very strong American Bulldog, and sometimes when he gets hyper he forgets all his manners and training. With the front hook I don't have to fight with him. I just pull on it and he will pull himself right around towards me, and I can get control again very easily. The harness doesn't irritate his skin; he seems comfortable in it. I take him hiking or let him off leash to run and its easy to clean.
worth the money
I was using a cheaper harness with only a small chest pad that I would have to lift her front legs up to put on. My dog did not like the harness and would hide when I showed it to her. The ruffwear front range harness changed all that. Just slip the harness over her head, buckle up and go. The extra padding around chest and stomach and where the buckles snap is great. My dog no longer hides and looks foward to her walks. I highly recommend this harness.
Very good hiking harness
For comparison to your dog's fur and body type, the dog that wore this harness (size M) was a six-month old Weimaraner. He wore the harness for two hikes, both 8 miles. One was fairly easy, the other had a good bit of going up and down over rocks, tall steps, streams, and such. This harness, once fitted, stays nicely snug to the dog's body throughout all sorts of doggy maneuvers. Climbing up and down rocks, crossing streams, and jumping over obstacles. I use the front loop to attach a bell, and the back for a tab leash. The placement of the back loop is good - far enough forward to give some control if the dog tries to reach something and to give a supportive hold for a little bit of a lift over obstacles, and far enough back to keep the leash out of the dog's way. You can also simply grab the top of the harness to help your dog over obstacles. Caveats that take this harness from 5-star to 4-star: I hesitated to buy this because one reviewer (another site) said that once wet it took so long to dry that it got funky. It does hold water longer than I'd like, but seems to be drying quickly enough to not get icky. Something to watch for, though. Additionally, the front loop really doesn't work well as a front leash connection point. The harness shifts quite a bit if the dog pulls at all when using the front point. Also, the front loop doesn't feel nearly as sturdy, or as well-attached, as the back. Side note: Please, don't use this as a car harness. It will work and is much better than nothing, but there are better alternatives, such as the RuffWear Load Up harness, which is built (and tested) to take the stresses of a car accident.
Great Harness
Good harness. Lots of great features while holding the dog secure with out choking. I have had it slip off once while pulling my dog towards me while she was facing me. Other than that, no problems. Love the blue color.
Happy husky
My 47lb teen husky loves this harness! She pulls when walking and this harness restricts her pulling to a manageable level for me. Adjustable for seasonal shedding, I dont think I could have picked a better one for my pooch. Came recommended by her vet who's an expert at joring/sledding.
Sturdy Harness
I bought the harness five months ago. Our dog wears it in the car, with a seat belt clip that we attach to the back metal loop. She can sit, lie down, or look out the window, so she is a happy traveler. I bought this model with the wide padded front because I thought it safer, in case of sudden car stops. It was not easy to work out the sizing. She is a 40 pound Australian Cattle Dog, and in the Ruffwear rain top, she wears a small. However, in the harness she takes a medium. While I prefer a prong collar for walking her, I can, if need be, walk her in it, and I doubt it would slide off of her. I also use it in group situations, where the control of the prong collar is not needed, but I want to make sure that she is controlled.
Good, solid harness
Good fit and support on my growing German Shorthaired Pointer pup. The shoulder harness sits back off the neck to avoid choking. There is a little elastic spring in some of the straps to help with movement and flex. The leash connection is strong and easy to get to while an enthusiastic puppy is wiggling. While it's not designed for lifting, I've used it as an assist with scrambling up a hill or into the truck.
High Quality Harness
This is a high quality harness that can be adjusted to a range of dog body sizes. The anchor points are sturdy and the harness is easy to take on and off. My dog has been pretty hard on it and it's held up well. The only complaint I have is that the added padding makes it dry more slowly than a simple webbing harness. Overall, very satisfied.
