A voir.

Great for layering.

I really like this vest. I really only have three issues, and they're all pretty slight: I wish there were different color options, the lighterweight version of this vest was too slim fitting and this one is a little baggy on me, so I wish there were some fit in between, and as a general complaint with midlayers (not just from arc'teryx) I wish the chest pocket was on the other side. Most jackets and shells have the chest pocket on the left as well, so if you're layering and using those pockets you end up with items stacked all on that one side, rubbing or jostling about as you move, this is especially annoying if you're also wearing a backpack.

Lite weight warmth

When I arrived at the trail head in the Mt. Evans Wilderness at 6:30am it was 32 degrees Fahrenheit. I was wearing a nylon, ventilated shirt without a base layer. I had packed the Atom LT vest in my day pack for use above timberline; anticipating cold and wind at higher elevations. However, it was really cold at the trail head and I was uncomfortably. I pulled the vest out of my pack and put it on. Instant warmth! I wore the vest for the entire hike. Awesome ventilation - I was totally comfortable for the entire 11 mile hike, even when the temperature had moderated into the 50s during the decent. The vest fit is not in anyway bulky and it's so light you can easily forget that you are wearing a super warm insulator that sheds excess heat through its side panels.

Great Vest

One of the best outerwear purchases I have made in a while. When wearing it doesn't feel like I have anything on, it's so lightweight. Great warmth and looks fantastic. Also one of the better zippers I have on any of my coats, and I'm sort of a coat fanatic, have many high end brand coats, and this is my new favorite piece.

Just perfect...

I rarely find myself not either wearing this vest or having close to hand. It seems to me to be a perfect layer, providing core warmth without any bulk, happy as an outer layer or within a system, perfectly presentable on the mountain or a casual night out. The only conditions it is not ideal for is as an outer layer in rain, but I frequently wear it as my only mid layer under a jacket (and even my drysuit when paddling) and it's synthetic 'warm when wet' powers are super useful those scenarios. I have two in different colours!

Almost Perfect

This Is a fantastic piece of kit, very very versatile. I am always wearing it. Scottish winter it makes a great additional mid layer or even just handy piece to throw over the top of everything when in a rush. I wear it running when its really cold. Climbing in it gives versatile extra warmth and its perfectly ok just wearing around Town. The only reason it does not get five stars is I think the face fabric could be just a little bit tougher. I very quickly put holes in it climbing. Ok I know there is a trade off between weight, packability etc and its not designed specifically as piece of climbing gear but just very slightly tougher could make it perfect in my opinion.

Great insulation

Overall a great layering jacket or standalone jacket with a long sleeve shirt. My one complaint bout this jacket is the tightness around the hips. I find that the fit is too tight in the hips which causes the vest to ride up marginally would prefer a looser fit and adjustable waste to dial in the fit. In the chest the vest is fine and sits well on my shoulders and chest. I run warm but i've worn this comfortably with a mid-weight flannel down to around 30 degrees. Ive also worn this jacket under my uninsulated ski jacket with a base layer down to 10 degrees and been quite warm. This is a must have from arcteryx.

Best bodywarmer I've ever seen/worn

This vest is simply superb. The manufacture is of the highest quality and it is wearable in a wide range of temperatures (I'm out every day in it). The fit is perfect for me. I am tall (6'4") and slim (182lbs with a 40" chest) and went for a large, as the medium was too figure hugging. There there is a little bit of room around the hem, but since it is under a jacket or tightened with a waist belt there is no problem with draughts. For reference I have an Alpha LT jacket in medium and the two work well together, though the vest hem is slightly longer (good) than the jacket. Get one. You won't regret it.

What I've been looking for!

I've never loved my Patagonia vest, I finally decided to try the ATOM and I could not be happier with it. It layers so nicely under anything and provides noticable warmth. The quality is great. One odd thing is that when you pack it in it's own pocket you cannot do up the zipper as the zipper pull does not swing around to the outside. This is not a big deal to me as I don't usually use this feature but it might be to some people.

not a winter garment

I bought this vest because I own already a blue cerium vest, and the Atom LT hoody which I both love, and wanted a black vest to accommodate a different outfit. The vest looks great, is very functional with its Napoleon pocket, but it actually fails to deliver core warmth. I think I could comfortably wear this in 80 degree weather without breaking a sweat, e.g., if you need some additional pockets over a t- shirt to carry stuff, but at 30 degrees or below I found it personally useless as a layering piece, unless you use it for strenuous exercising, but for this there are better alternatives. To make it a functional winter piece, the insulation would need to be substantially reinforced.

Hello, Thank you for contacting Arc'teryx and we do apologize that the Atom LT Vest does not work well for you. Please note that this vest is only lightly insulated, so it is not the warmest vest that we make. Also, whether a product will be warm enough in a certain temperature will depend on several factors. First, it will depend on one’s own core body temperature; some people get cold easier and some people overheat more, thereby requiring different layers and products in the same temperature. In addition, core body temperature will be affected by hunger, dehydration and fatigue. Second, it will depend on what activity one is engaged in while wearing the garment -whether a high-output activity where one is more likely to sweat or a low-output activity where blood circulation is slower. Third, it will depend on the humidity level and wind chill, not just on the temperature. Both humidity and wind chill will make it seem colder than what the temperature says. If you are looking for a warmer vest, we would recommend the Cerium LT Vest. Warm regards,
