Great lightweight axe
This a great light weight axe for the type of backpacking I do.. Its well balanced and long enough to generate good axe head speed to make good cuts with less work unlike the reviews I have read on the Gerber Gator. The bottom of the handle is angled enough to keep the axe from flying out of your hand like my old axe and It came with 2 different style sheaths for options. My only gripe with this axe, is the lack of grip on the handle. I rubbed a big blister on my thumb the first trip out because the handle is a very slick plastic.
Great BUT..
Seems to be a great hatchet. We'll made, but the issue is this is just a rebranded Fiskars hatchet. It actually says Fiskars on it. You can get the same hatchet elsewhere for about $20 less without the additional Gerber name on it. It cost me more even after my member 20 off coupon. will probably be returning because of this.
Small but effective
I've used this hatchet three times and taken down several 6-12 foot trees, chopped small firewood and trimmed branches/brush. It is still sharp and in good shape. Lightweight and the bright green helps keep me from losing it. Good product.
Can of Beans
I used this bad boy to open a can of beans when my girlfriend told me she forgot the can opener. Just for that, this thing gets 5 stars.
Good general purpose tool
While very different from other camp hatchets and somewhat unbalanced, this hatchet will get most light jobs done around the average campsite, no problem.
Choppa Choppa
I bought this hatchet to help process the firewood bundles at campsites near me since firewood gathering is prohibited. It took some work but for the weight it was a great solution to process the firewood bundles into smaller pieces or kindling.
Very good so far!
I've only used this on one trip thus far and cut up some deadfall that was 6"+ around. Lightweight. I ran some paracord through the hole at the bottom to attach to a carabiner on my pack.
Works as advertised
This is my first hatchet I’ve taken to the Adirondacks and BOY-OH did it open up my options for firewood. Helps A LOT.
Perfect for backpacking
The hatchet is very lightweight and is perfect for backpacking. The sheath it came with made it very easy to attach it to a backpack or anything. However the handle is hollow.
Great little hatchet!
Glad I have this hatchet despite being used lightly for shavings for kindling. Over the weekend my brother and his friends hacked our wood down to sizable pieces so I am beyond impressed and they are picking up hatchets for themselves!
