I purchased this jacket to replace a Down Sweater I purchased a couple seasons ago. I have consistently worn a Small in both the Down Sweater and Down Hoodie (both of which still fit at present, so I know I haven't changed size). However, based on the new look of the coat (gathered side panels), I decided to order a Medium, so I could still fit a layer underneath and have a good range of movement. The jacket arrived today and the medium is very tight in the bust. I don't think I could comfortably ride or ski in this, so its going back. I wish Patagonia would stop updating its basics from a standard fit to a slim or "fashion" fit. As someone that wears Patagonia products as activewear, I find it irritating that the brand seems to be more focused on being a fashion brand, at least in respect to many of its staple items (I've had the same issue with the changed R2 jacket).

I love my first down puffy!

I’ve been wanting to get my first puffy for a while. I’d tried several other models and brands including pantagonia nano jacket but hesitated. I didn’t want my only puffy jacket to be so-so especially it’s a 3-digit investment. Im so glad my wait is worth it. For fitting, I’m a XS-S size. I am 5’1 slim but athletic built and more busty than most girls who wear XS-S. I weigh about 94lbs. So with 33-34 bust, most XS fits me well except the chest is always too tight, which means no way I can layer and it is always uncomfortable around my lads. For comparison sake, the pantagonia Nano XS is too small while the S fits me better and I really liked the coral color but I was adamant I should stick to down because I get cold v easily. With this Down jacket, the reviewers were right, the size runs big. I fit the XS with room sufficient for an inner layer. The sleeves are a little longer than I like and same overall length but very important I don’t feel suffocated at my chest. It feels so nice for the first time, I don’t want to take off a jacket I’m trying on. I can’t wait to take it out to its first crag with me. Thank you REI for running specials so I can afford this - with my $14 dividends, came to just a little over $100- way less than the synthetic Nano I was considering in the last sale!

Super light, extra warm

Love this down jacket, extremely light, yet very warm. Sizing runs just slightly on the bigger side, but not by much. I'm a medium/athletic built and usually wear size large, but their medium fits my arms and hips, just a little snug on the shoulders, but works well as a layer under a rain coat or snow jacket. Extremely comfortable. This is my new go-to puff jacket on cold days. Took it to a trip with me to Alaska, did great without weighing down my suitcase. Love the colors available (not too much pink/purple, this is my personal preference as I also buy men's small clothing for colors I like better). Highly recommended. I'm already looking to buy a second one with a hood.

Perfect Lightweight Jacket

I live in Los Angeles and this insulated jacket is the perfect weight for a cool Southern California day/night. I wore it in very windy conditions and this jacket kept me very warm and comfortable. I have even worn it just with a short sleeve T-shirt underneath it and it's perfect. Wonderfully easy to pack. I tried on a lot of these light insulated jackets, and even though I didn't want to spend this much, this one doesn't create static the way cheaper ones did and isn't so tapered in the waist so it looks like a "ladies" jacket (I'm not crazy about that look, but that's just me). Overall I would recommend this to anyone!

worked for me!

I'm 5'4, 120lbs, usually a size 0-2. Usually wear an S in Patagonia tops solely based on the bottom hem which is usually tight over my hips - I have an R1 full zip hoodie in size S and could not have done the XS. I got an XS Down Sweater though and it was fine for my needs: I was going to Iceland and wanted to layer the previously mentioned hoodie under and a rain jacket over when needed. The S would've worked for me too, but it was a little looser and I wanted a slimmer fit so I could wear it after my trip over tshirts in NYC in late fall. When it just sprinkled, I just wore this jacket and the water repellent coating was fine.

Worth the investment!

The only thing that held me back from buying this jacket was the price tag. I decided to invest and am so happy that I did. The jacket looks great and is both comfortable and functional. It is cozy but has enough space to fit a sweater and a fleece underneath (I wore the Patagonia Better Sweater underneath it was absolutely comfortable and there was room to breathe). In my opinion, the jacket looks much puffier in the picture. I think it looks great in person and I don't feel like a marshmallow wearing it. I also love the inner pocket--big enough to fit phone and cards for worry free travel. I don't have a single complaint with this jacket and will wear this for many years to come!

Better fit means no exposed midriff

First of all, I'm going to have to disagree with the above review. I've had my eye on the down sweater for years but always found the fit to be short and boxy. For an active outdoor enthusiast, this just wasn't going to work. I wear down to stay warm, not to expose my waistline every time I reach up. True, the updated fit is more slimming and could be considered more fashionable but in my opinion, the slimming fit means better insulation. I finally bought one in the updated fit and I am loving it! Patagonia is an excellent brand and I think you'd be hard pressed to find another CEO telling customers not to buy a new jacket every year. They make products that last and this is no exception.

Lightweight, Durable

Great jacket to keep you warm, whether it's for that breezy morning walk from your front door to your car, or outside all night in a football stadium. I live in Los Angeles (sunshine capital of the country) and originally thought this jacket would be too warm for my climate. I am so glad I made the investment! I've taken mine on international trips (roll it up to make the comfiest neck pillow on your flight) but also throw it on almost every weekend between November and February for farmer's market trips. I wear my jacket so much that I gifted my parents with them, and was gifted the vest version which I wear weekly.

Warm and stylish - great down layer

Bought this jacket in both a small and medium (I’m almost always a medium) cause I read reviews that it ran large...ended up keeping the small & LOVE it. The teal color is gorgeous, it’s lightweight & super warm & comfortable. Kept me very comfortable in day & overnight in my down sleeping bag in sub-freezing temps. Highly recommend!

Sizes are too big

Great quality, loved the color, could not try it in the store before buying. Relied on Patagonia and Rei size calc, read the reviews. Wanted to use it as a layer under my ski shell, I needed a close fit. I am 5'3", 124 pounds, 34D - Small was way too big. I had extra 1.5 inch width. The sleeves were very wide. Look at the picture - this does not look like S. I went to the store and XS fits me fine with a sweater underneath. I was not able to exchange because this model sold out. I was very sad to return it.

love it but stains easily

I love this jacket. It’s warm (though I definitely need to layer with a fleece underneath for temps under 40ish degrees F), flattering fit, nice inside pocket, comfy and light. My biggest issue with this jacket is how easily the fabric stains. I have the “camp green” color and if I so much as look at it after eating French fries, I guarantee there will be a dark stain. I’ve had it 2 months and have at least 6 stains, and I’m not even a messy person. Anything that touches it leaves a mark that it will remember forever. Luckily Patagonia has a great product care page, but still. An unnecessary hassle. Messy people beware of this fabric or get a dark color. Other than that, I love it!
