Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Value! I bought this to replace my Lightspeed tent (wasn't so light speed and the pole broke). It was on sale here at REI and I have used it twice so far. The first time it was during a downpour and it held up well. It had plenty of room for 4 people and gear. The vestibule was nice to keep our shoes dry. It was easy to set up and I'm 5'5" and I was able to put it up with the rainfly by myself in about 10 minutes. The only downside is that the zipper will catch once in a while and there was a little condensation one morning. Also, the second time I put it up, I noticed a few small holes on the rainfly. No biggie as that is an easy fix. Overall, for the money, ease of use, I say this was a good purchase.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good for the price, but not great in rough weather I got this tent to use as a base camp tent during a month long camping trip. For the most part it was great, but we had some moderate wind one week and the tent doubled over on itself and the fiberglass poles shattered. It seemed to be too tall with too few spots to tie down the fly in high winds. Also, when we encountered heavy rain, the fly held up for a few days, but then started leaking through the seems. If you are going to be doing some car camping in mild rain and wind, this tent will be great. Anything more than that, I would consider a better tent.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor quality I had a chance to test the tent during my recent memorial day camping trip. Fortunately it did not rain that weekend. After I put the tent together I realized that the reason for every picture of this tent being front only is that the back has insufficient protection from the rain. I would expect more from Kelty especially that it would cost maybe additional 5-10 dollars to extend the rain fly and add straps to stretch it. I am very disappointed. The inside is worth its prices. I still don't understand why most of these companies do not supply the overhead net for your small equipment. I recommend spending more money on more expensive and better protected tent.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Even in the snow We bought this for a Ragnar Trail relay for 3 people and a LOT of gear. I'm not sure how comfy 6 people would be, but 3 w/2 bags pp was super roomy and you could stand up to change (the reason we bought the tent). We were camping in Utah, near Zion in April and it rained and snowed on us. With the rainfly everything in the tent stayed dry! The rain and snow only lasted one night and I'm not sure how well we would have made out if the storm had lasted longer, but we were SO GLAD we had this tent. No complaints whatsoever and would definitely recommend. Not sure I would recommend for cold weather, but if you get stuck in it, the tent performed. Gave it a 4 out of 5 only because I'm not sure this would really work for 6 people. But for 4 it would be great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy Up and Functional Bought this for my family of three. We've got two cots. The six-year-old sleeps on the ground. The size is perfect for us. Tent goes up easily enough, and I did it on my own. There aren't any windows. The top half of the tent is mesh, so if you don't put the rain fly on then you'll get ventilation, but that's not something you'll want to do regularly. For the price, this is a good one. I'd make the same choice again.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Broke on third use I bought this tent this spring, and it was great. It handled a little rain and a family camping trip fine. Then, I went to fire camp this summer (worked at a wildfire). A little wind came through, the nearby weather station showed a gust to 20 mph. In a city of tents, some very large, mine was the ONLY one to break. Both poles broke and 1 ripped the rain cover.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great buy! Recommend it to everyone! Fantastic tent - well worth the price! Pros: Great construction, durable, easy to setup and take down, lightweight, double seamed for extra protection. Little touches like coloring the front tent stakes and clips a different color. Large enough vestibule for all 6 person's shoes. Cons: Poles could be more secure when setting up. It rained heavily throughout the first use of this tent. Was pleasantly surprised that all of us stayed perfectly dry. No water came into the tent whatsoever. Would recommend Kelty to anyone!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very decent tent I have not used this tent in the wild yet, but from initially setting it up, it looks OK. Decent value for the money. Fits two queen beds with some room to spare. The fly goes low enough to give me reasonable confidence for withstanding some rain. The disappointing part is that REI does not carry a footprint made specifically for this tent. However, the floor dimensions are exactly the same as the Slumberjack 6 Trail Tent, and they do make a footprint for it - it fits perfectly.

Is the rainfly on the Kelty Discovery 6 Tent a "full coverage" rainfly? There is a comment from one reviewer that said rainfly did not cover completely in the back and also noted this could not be seen in the picture as the only view is from the front.

Asked by: ChinaCatSunflower
I don't own this tent, but according to the Kelty website, it is full coverage. Since the Discovery tents only have 1 door, there is no vestibule at the back, it is more like the sides.

Does the Kelty Discovery 6 tent have any windows or just one door.

Asked by: camper5
With the rain fly on there are no windows only the vestibule/door. This makes for a hot tent.

Is there a footprint made specifically for the Kelty Discovery 6 tent, or do you stock one that is compatible?  Thanks!

Asked by: bigcase100
Kelty is not making a footprint for the Discovery 6 at this time. You can make your own footprint with heavy duty plastic. Most hardware stores carry this. Cut a piece 2-3" smaller on each side than the floor of the tent. For this tent, your square will be about 125"x105". Some people choose to try to use a footprint from a tent of similar size. This can work if they are close in size, but you might have to extend the corner attachment webbing with pieces of utility cord. It's always best to choose a footprint that is smaller rather than bigger than the tent floor, so it doesn't collect drips.
