Used this stove on an overnight at over 10,000 feet. Temps got to maybe 40°, and the stove performed wonderfully. I've used similar stoves by different brands and this worked just as well if not better. Boil times were a bit longer due to altitude but stayed right around 2 minutes. Love the stove, and I like having something different than everyone else. This stove improves on an already loved all-in-one design. The turn locking mechanism is great, especially when removing the pot from burner one-handed. If I had to give a con, it would be the lid. The one that comes with it sits loosely, and it'd be nice to have a more snug fit. Worth the money.
After much research, I chose this Primus stove for our backpacking trip. Initial impression was high quality construction. It appears to be constructed much better than Jetboil. The connection from burner to cup is easy and will last. The piezo ignition did not work at first. Very frustrating but I cleaned the wire with 1500 grit sandpaper and rubbing alcohol and it worked great. Lighted on the first try during our 3 day trip. Boil times are very fast - 2 minutes 30 sec. Be aware that the cup is small at .5 L so I will be ordering the coffee press kit. The flame reduces so we were able to cook our meals on it. This stove worked like a champ!! Great quality at a very good price. Highly recommend this stove!
I just bought this stove for a backpacking trip with 5 guys, and we were eating mostly freeze dried food. I brought four cans of fuel thinking we would need them, but we could have got by with one. I was amazed at 8,500 ft above sea level one fuel canister boiled 32 cups of water two cups at a time. It was very fast too, bring the water to a boil in less than two minutes. My only complaint is that out of the box the igniter worked infrequently and had to be light with a match most times. I look forward to using this stove many times in the future.
I just got this out of the box and set up to test out for upcoming trip. I was amazed that it boiled 2.5 cups of water in just under 2 minutes at 1200 ft. elevation. Will be using it for boiling water for freeze dried food. The stove system seems to be very well built. I initially thought the cup cozy and handle was a bit too heavy especially with the metal attachment clip on the bottom of handle. I also wished the lid fit a bit snugger to the cup as does the lid on a competitors model. When drinking tea out of it I have to hold down the lid with a finger.
WOW this thing is INSTANT on and FAST! From what I've read the JetBoil SOL is much faster than other JetBoil models and this is on par with SOL if not a tad faster. I like the size, insulator, and it can boil more than a half liter probably around 0.75. Wish the canister support folded flat like JetBoil but not a big deal and could always pickup the JetBoil one. Love the coffee press! I did have to click the lighter a few times so verdict is still out on that. I came from old school coleman white gas stove thinking canister gas was expensive, but as often as I use this and the amazing efficiency fuel cost is not an issue. No more fussing with liquid fuel, pumping, flare-up, and waiting fpr warm up. I've seen the light!
This stove is great, super easy to use and heats up water very quickly. The only potential drawbacks I can see are the fact that the propane canister is too big to fit in the stove and the lid pops off easily, especially in your bag. These aren't issues for me personally, but I could see how it would bother other folks. I love that you can start the stove without a lighter, but I always make sure to bring one with me just in case!
I am actually using stoves quite often when I stay at hotels and I want to make food instead of going to restaurants. On the last stay I got this little one and it was used to make coffee for three and bacon and eggs as well as other things every morning in an extra pan. Now we had strong wind as we were at the ocean and the included lighter will not work with strong wind, but hey every good hiker has a lighter with them, that's just something you don't want to leave home. So this wasn't a problem. I didn't had any problems with these little screw posts things that hold a pot when you use a different pot that isn't part of the system. Not sure what the other guys problem was, maybe it was a user error. Mine didn't fall out of there place at any given time. Water as well as all food came out nicely, but I might get a wind protector for the next time as it was really windy.
This is a great stove for a solo or 2-person trip. Boils water very rapidly and uses very little fuel per burn. Love the way the pot twists securely onto the stove. The small size and light weight make it a perfect choice for backpacking.
The product design and overall look is great. It's made well, the attachment at the bottom is sleek, the outside cover is super durable and it is a great product. It boils water super quick and quietly, does it efficiently. The issue I had was with the igniter. I got it right before I hit the trail on a weekend, tested it and it worked great on Friday night. I then hiked it in on Saturday (making sure that it was put away properly, I even put a bandanna inside the cup to make sure nothing bounced around) and it was broken by the time I used it on Saturday afternoon. Luckily I had a lighter with me. This product would have gotten 5 stars if it wasn't for the fact it broke and within a 12 hour period. Several other reviews said the same thing but I threw caution to the wind. So if you want a great stove, that overall is designed well and works great this is a good one.. but the igniter might give out on you so be aware.
The igniter which worked at home did not work in the wilderness, good job I brought matches. It is difficult to light the burners unless the pot is disconnected from the burner. The cup is intended to be used for boiling and drinking but the fabric holder prevents bringing the cup to the lips. Take away the fabric holder and the pot is too hot to hold. It appears this stove was brought to the market before adequate testing .
