Wont charge anymore
It lasted a little over a year before no longer holding charge, for 80$ id expect it to last logger than a year, I took great care of it, didn't use that often mostly camping trips in the tent. Customer service was rude, basically said I'm lying about what I paid for it, I have a receipt from REI, and blamed me saying I didn't keep it charged enough. Kind of hard to keep it charged when it won't charge past 1 light, out of 4. It's slowly been losing its ability to hold charge for about 6 months, but would charge enough to function. Not anymore, I can charge it for 2 days and it doesn't get more than one light. 6 months ago it would charge to 2-3, of 4 lights. Waste of money, buy a cheap lantern.
Breaks right out of the box
I purchased this product on the 3rd of May, 2014. I was most excited to use the emergency crank feature on the Lighthouse 250. I opened the product and attempted to flip open the crank lever. With about the amount of force it takes to open a soda can the top of the Lighthouse popped off...at first I thought it was supposed to, since it came off with no effort. After quick investigation I discovered the glue welding the two pieces together had failed, and after some internet searching I found this to be a little too common. I really wanted to incorporate this product into our overland kit but a failure of a emergency component is unacceptable. I believe the overall concept is great! but the quality falls short.
Power level indicator are not accutate
As soon as I receive the lantern I topped off the battery to make sure it was fully charged. I set it to the 180 degree illumination and the lowest out put possible. The lantern remained on for 60+ hours. This was good. However, the battery life indicators failed to give an accurate reading as to how much battery life was left. The lantern showed two blue lights (indicating 1/2 of the battery remained) at 60 hours. The battery ran out of power at about 64 hours. Warning, the battery indicators are not an accurate indicator of the remaining power. You can not trust the battery power indicators to tell you how much power is remaining.

lighthouse 250
This has to be the greatest camping lantern in the world. It is plenty bright for those camping trips with no power. The battery time lasts for at least two days. If you buy a small solar panel and charge it very day you have all the light you will ever need without buying batteries. The design is light yet can be tall enough to use for a dinner light. I am so impressed with this lantern I am going to buy a second one for backup. I have never used the hand crank since the solar panel charges it up every day. I haven't used the usb charger either. Goal zero has become one of my favorite company making quality products the don't pollute the world we live in.

Good little lantern
Purchased to replace our 40 year old Colman propane lantern. Although not as bright as the old Colman propane, its bright enough for our camping needs, much smaller, less weight, no lugging of propane canisters for light (still need one for cooking) and it can be used inside a closed up tent. Very compact. Others have commented on the crank handle breaking off ... maybe the design has changed, but we have had no issue with the crank and it appears to be strong enough. But it does tack a lot of cranking to put power in ... much easier to charge via USB cord. . The variable brightness is nice. We use it mostly on the lower light and it lasts a very long time. Overall, it meets our needs and we are very happy with this lantern.
Great lantern backed by great customer service
My brother got this for me a few years ago and I have used it quite a bit camping as well as around the house when the power goes out. Always provided great lighting with good battery performance. I particularly like the light intensity options. Unfortunately, the lantern went haywire a month ago and wouldn't turn off. Didn't have the receipt since my brother bought it, so I emailed goal zero customer service. They mailed me a replacement (the newer lighthouse 400 model) right away. Great product backed by great customer service!
Second times the charm
Received one as a Christmas present and was really excited. It worked great for awhile then something went work with the charging function. Once the juice ran out, I could not get it to charge. REI to the rescue! Returned the original one and there was a new one in the store. Set it outside with the Nomad 7 panel and brought it to full charge. Used it recently on a camping trip and again at the beach. So far so good. Gives out excellent light.
Lightweight, Compact Design Great for all Campers
This lightweight lantern, paired with a Nomad solar charger, is an excellent solution for any camping set up, whether it be the backpacker or RVer. The compact design will serve the minimalist well. The ability to light a trail with 180 lighting will light your path to the bathroom in the middle of the night, while conserving energy Plus the 360 lighting feature allow you to tailor your lighting output to your needs. The USB port allows you to charge cell phones and other devices, will keep your electronics up to speed while off the grid. The built in legs that fold away are a nice little perk, too. It will light a small area, but don't expect it to replicate the light of a big lantern. It is more than ample, however, for most basic campsite activity. I love that I can turn it and immediately have light versus pulling the big Coleman out of the protective case and lighting the mantle. Pros: Charge via USB by solar, wall, or PC. 180 and 360 lighting choices Blinking light option Adjustable brightness Hand crank for when battery is dead Frosted inner globe to diffuse light Build in USB cord for recharging the lantern battery Fold-away carrying handle Lightweight and compact design Folding away legs Cons: Cannon replace bulb or battery. Once they are dead, it's worthless.
Camping or Emergency Light
This is a great lantern for my needs. I do a lot of short camping trips and I like the fact that I won't have to worry about charging it for those short weekends. I think the light out put is pretty good for a lantern this size. I think it was a good idea to be able control one, or two lights being on. This is compact enough that I may even leave it in my car all the time.
Solar would make it a 6!
Love this little guy. I have an old (read 30 yr old) motorhome, and I like to conserve the batteries as much as possible. This light contributes to that wonderfully. I can recharge it using my coach batteries or my Yeti 400, but it would be really nice if it had a small solar panel built in - leave it out during the day, use in the night! I also like the ability to have only half the light on (directional). It worked great for the card games and extended the battery as well! The crank has a feeling of security built in although I wouldn't want to be cranking all night. Very nice product!
