The North Face  Stormbreak 2 Tent

First 5 day.motocamping trip. Got used to the door zipper issue.. Not a big deal.I did notice 2 pinholes in inner tent at red tab stitching... Low enough could be a water issue. REI offered a replacement. I think it's an automated stitching glitch so could be affecting many. I'm just going to flex seal tape the holes inside and out. I love the tent so far.. For $200 it should be checked when opening the box....

I've been camping with this tent for 6 years. I have been using it with the ground cover. It's withstood 80mph wind, below zero, dogs, and general laziness about cleaning off the ground where I set it up. It's small enough to pack with 4 or 5 days of stuff for me+dog and still be able to shut my pack all the way, and light enough I don't really feel like I need to go to anything more "intense". The red tag identifying one corner of everything (tent, ground barrier, and fly) definitely helps with quick setup in the evening when it's raining. The all-clips style of setup is also much appreciated. The downsides are the stakes and tie-outs for the fly. I replaced the "L" style stakes with some hardier nail style stakes, and the tie outs are hard to see at night, so I replaced them with reflective paracord so I quit tripping over them (as much). I've never woken up wet from condensation or been disturbed by the tent trying to collapse on me in the middle of the night. It's a solid, reliable mid-weight tent for 2+stuff and dog.

Overall, the tent has a nice layout and a good amount of space for 1-2 people. It also has lots of storage pockets which is a plus. I can't speak to its waterproof capacity, as where I live gets very little rain. The zippers on the doors do tend to snag on the velcro and catch in the fabric, like, EVERY time you zip it, which is annoying. The reason I'm giving 2 stars is this: I had my tent just under a year and used it a good amount, I'm talking ~16 days a month for 5 months. I bought this tent because the last North Face tent I had lasted for 15 years. Maybe my expectations were too high, because last week, not even a year into use, the tent pole snapped, rendering it completely useless. I admit I use my tents a little more than the average person, but if I buy a quality brand, I expect to be able to get more than a single seasons use out of it. Disappointing that quality has declined and this tent is now destined to rot in a landfill. I won't be buying North Face again.

I've had my yellow Stormbreak 2 tent for over 4 years now and it holds up. When I initially bought this tent, I didn't think I'd use it as often as I do. The quality of the fabric is pretty top notch and is easy to assemble. The vents make this tent nice and breathable but it also retains heat for those cool-wet nights in the backcountry. Recently, I took a week trip to backpack Isle Royale National Park and it performed perfectly. It kept my gear dry and the condensation buildup (from my breathing and weather) was exceedingly minimal. Also, it stands well with windy conditions too. It's honestly the best tent I own and it has stood the test of time. There are a couple caveats that I'll mention even though they are minor. First, the zippers on the rainfly sometimes gets caught on the material and can make easy entry and exits a hassle (typically user error if I do it too quickly), and the best way to fix this is from the opposite side of the stuck zipper. Secondly, it can be a little tough to store because the rainfly is an odd shape to fold and store in the tent bag unless you fold it a certain way. Again, these are minor cons. All in all, I'd recommend this tent for the beginners and experts who wish to get into the outdoors.

I bought this tent about five years ago when I first started getting into car camping as an adult. It’s really grown with me as my life has changed throughout the years. I’ve used it countless times alone and many times with my wife and 50-60 lb dog (fitting us all comfortably). About a year and a half ago I got into backpacking and it has served me well even in that setting, though it is certainly on the heavier side for a backpacking tent. After all these years it has kept me warm while backpacking in the winter months and dry during summer storms. It’s been on the AT quite a few times and has even survived flash flooding scenarios. The only damage it’s sustained are some tiny holes on top of the rain fly (easily patched) from what was probably stray sparks off a campfire, and that is of no fault of the tent itself. All in all, highly recommend, especially at the price point.

this tent is amazing! went on my first backpacking trip with a buddy ten miles round trip. weather went south quickly and it started to snow heavily half way through the hike. me and my buddy had to set up camp in 2 feet of snow and the storm breaker help up great. poles didn’t break under the high wind and snow and it kept warmth in great. would recommend to any beginners. but it is a bit on the heavier side but if you don’t mind that this tent is the best on the market.

Love it! Easy to set up. Color coded straps and loops. Simple. Effective.

If you’re 5’7” or taller you should probably get a different tent, because I’m 5’7” and my feet almost touch the end of the tent. Besides that it’s a great tent for one person and a bit small for two people. I also couldn’t find the instructions the first time I opened it but I was still able to put it together (the instructions are in the steak bag). Overall, great tent, would recommend.

Between myself and my kids, we own a Stormbreak, a Marmot Tungsten, and two Mountain Hardware Mineral Kings - all in two person sizes. The Stormbreak tent itself is great, however, it comes with thin steel stakes which are heavy and bend easily, and does not include a ground cloth nor a gear loft. The Tungsten is about the same price and came with excellent stakes, a ground cloth and has a small gear loft. The Mineral King costs quite a bit more, so while it also included a ground cloth, gear loft, and excellent stakes, it isn't exactly an equal comparison. I was able to find reasonably priced stakes, ground cloth, and gear loft on Amazon which added about $40 to the price of the Stormbreak. If I had gone with North Face branded items, it would have been closer to an extra $100 putting the final price close to the Mineral King. All these tents work really well, but if I'm looking at value, I'd say the Tungsten comes out ahead pretty easily.
