Got it. Tried it. Liked it.
I tried Hydraulics LT reservoir when I realized that it has a special shape that limits barreling of the reservoir. I had long thought about trying one of the other Osprey reservoirs, but they were really heavier than what I wanted. In this product, its front face is attached to its back face in a couple of places in the center of the bag, and that's what limits the pouch-bulge when it's filled with water. I'm having a little more trouble drying out the pouch than I have with my usual reservoirs. Just got this, so no comments on durability.
Likes and dislikes
Pros: Like the handles on the larger paks. Not needed for smaller paks. Like the bite valves. Like the magnets on the bite valves for keeping handy. Like the wide mouths for easy filling. Like the baffles on the 1.5L, though they do make drying a little harder. Cons: Hate the way the filler cap fails to seat and then leaks. The problem is that it feels properly threaded and seated when it’s not. This is a problem with both the 1.5 and the 2 liter. The stiffness of the red cap retainer might be a factor. Had a problem with the hose connector where it attaches to the reservoir. It broke when I tried to detach it for cleaning. Osprey customer service responded the same day to say they will replace the reservior, so I'd rate their customer service as excellent.
Joining the Chorus of Praise!
I needed a smaller reservoir for my ultra-light pack. This was an impulse buy. At the store I was impressed with the overall design that integrated good features from other manufacturers and added a few new innovations. On the trail, the reservoir worked well. It's easy to use, refill, and stow in the hydration pocket of my packs. My only quibble for field performance is that the magnet is not particularly effective in holding the mouthpiece on the harness. At home, it came apart easily for cleaning and storing. --A winner all around!
Wide mouth is a great feature
The extra wide opening makes this reservoir easy to fill with ice, then add water and it will stay cool for quite a while. Wide mouth also makes it a bit easier to clean. Also with the wide mouth I can stick a cooking wisk inside it after I clean it and that helps it stay expanded and dry out, and again with the wide mouth, you get better air exchange for quicker drying.
Easy Access
I bought this reservoir for my Osprey day pack that was already set up to hold a reservoir, but did not come with one. I LOVE this reservoir! It is my first one, so I don't have anything to compare it too. I love how easy it is to fill up and drink from. It fits perfectly into my pack and allows me to get a sip of water without having to take off my pack and get out a cumbersome water bottle from underneath the rest of my stuff.
This makes my hiking easier.
I've used this on four hikes so far, and it is wonderful to have, instead of using bottles. It is the perfect size to fit into my backpack.
Bladder that's not bulky
Just the right size for a day hike. Bonus that it keeps its firm while filling and for easy insertion in the pack
Would be awesome if, see below
I use the1.5 LT reservoir because its well made and I like the lighter weight and it has less bulk compared to the 2 LT with the handle feature. The cap seals just find if you take your time and keep it level as you screw it tight or it will cross thread and leak. This bladder would be totally awesome if they would lengthen the tube below the quick connect so the connection would be outside of my Osprey 58 pack. That way I could fill the bladder from outside the pack. All that would be needed is a male connection and a 2 inch piece of tube to connect to my sawyer water filter. I bought a quick connect from Osprey to put on the hose but who wants the added weight of the extra female connector, so I purchased a replacement hose to cut to size and replace the hose leading to the bladder so I can use my sawyer water filter to fill it outside of my pack. This bladder would have gotten 5 stars if I could fill it without taking it out of my pack.
Light enough for my damaged back
My first hydration pack. I needed a smaller one for weight restriction. Cleans easily and I dry by hanging it from the bottom with a platinum chip clip and staffing a paper towel wick down into the very top of the reservoir where the water collects. My on wish is that it attached a bit higher in my pack.
Much better than my 5 year old bag!
Many very nice improvements in the tech of these things. Easy to open, nice connectors and a little extra with the magnet! This is now my go to water bag.
