Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great I bought these pants for my daughter. She loves them. They have been used many times now and still look new. They are made of comfortable durable material, they do not restrict movement, they are light, loose enough to easily wear baselayers under when necessary, and have the ability to turn into shorts. And that is where I can say the only sort of con. The zippers for turning these back into pants can be a bit of a pain, but I have not found any pants like these where the zippers aren't a pain. Also, the zippers are different colours on either side so that you cannot get the two legs mixed up when putting them back on which is nice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for petite women I'm about 5' and 95 lbs. so it's really hard to find performance gear. I've been looking for hiking/ climbing pants for years and finally found these! They fit perfectly, really comfortable for day hikes, and stretch enough for climbing. I purchased another pair for travel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sturdy, well constructed, excellent fit I purchased these for my daughter probably 1.5 years ago - they still look like new despite being worn on a regular basis (several x/week). They are nice enough for school, but also sturdy enough for on-trail use when we backpack. My daughter is very particular about her clothes and the way they fit (she seems supersensitive to scratchy fabric, seams that chafe, etc.) but she loves these pants and would wear them every day if I allowed it. I ended up buying the next size up for when she outgrows her current pair, as I was afraid they'd be discontinued. She's both tall and thin for her age, which makes finding clothes that fit properly a HUGE issue. We did need to cinch the waist in a bit, but the waist/length ratio for us was nearly perfect (she's currently 9.5 yo still wearing the size 8 pant). I appreciate the more natural color selections, which make paring them with a wide range of different colored tops much easier, and seem more suitable for back woods use. THANK YOU for not making these in gender exclusive colors for those of us who are all pinked, purpled, and aquaed out. Highly recommend for quality construction, durability, and excellent fit. Please don't ever stop making these, REI!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great pant for small woman adjustable waist line which works for me since I have a small waste. My height is 5 ft and weight 105 lbs so I order large for girl size because all the comments/reviews on this pant. I just got the pant and try it out. It works for me but it is a bit long a inch or so. I hope my hiking shoes would take care the length of the pant situation.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Lightweight, nice design function-wise, odd fit Looking for a lightweight pant for summer hiking. The convertible design is nice. Material is thin nylon, do crumple up a bit, not of best quality but is fine given the price. But for me it's too long and the sizing is odd. I'm petite with relatively fuller hips and thighs and small waist - 25 for most jean brands. I ordered L - fits ok through seat when standing, but a bit tight when squatting/lifting legs since the material doesn't stretch, waist is huge, and it's long - nearly reach the ground even with hiking boots on. And fitting between consecutive sizes differs by much. Ended up returning.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My go-to hiking and backpacking pants I've owned and HEAVILY used a pair of the adult version of these for 5 years, and recently purchased a pair of the girl's version - the quality and fit seems just as good. These pants are easy to wear in almost any situation. I've hiked in Arizona, backpacked in Alaska (it's easy to layer baselayers with these), and done months of field work in them. Very reliable. For reference, I am almost 5'7, wear a 4 in most brands, and got the girl's size 18. Fit is perfect (loose for layering) aside from being a few inches too long. The adult version is long on me too though.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad sizing I took my daughter into REI to get another pair of these. She outgrew the ones her closet, size 8-10. My daughter is 4'11" and weighs about 105. Her waist and hips are of average size. She usually wears a size 12 in pants, and a size 14 in shirts. She tried on the 10-12, and they were so small, she couldn't get them on past her thighs. So we went to the 14-16....expecting them to be long since that size usually is, but not only were they VERY VERY long.....the were huge around her waist! I then visually looked at the pants.....the 10-12 were very small....like a size 10. I put them up next to the 14-16....and their was like a 4-5 inch difference in waist size! Looking at the size charts, the 10-12 appear to be more like a size 10, and the 14-16 more like a size 16. There is no in-between here. Feeling disappointed since she has always had a pair of the sahara pants for summer camp, etc., we went to try a Women's Petite, in a size 2. These actually fit her very well around the waist....but were about 6-7 inches too long on the bottom! She is almost 5' feet tall....what is your definition of petite? Very disappointed. The funny thing is on this same trip we bought a pair of REI Savannah pants, in a size 12, and they fit her just fine. So its not us...the sizing is off on the Sahara pants.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great pair of hiking pants Got these pair for my two little girls. They got the fudge color and used them on our last beach camping trip to the central coast. They zipped of the legs and hit the beach and zipped them back up and layered them for the cold night. They absolutely love their pants.

Could the medium fit someone who is 5'3"?

Asked by: bodhi
I just got these in today, girl's size L in fudge, and they fit great; I even cinched them in a bit. I am 5' 3" and weigh about 115. I also ordered a size XL to try because I wasn't sure which might fit, but they haven't come in yet, so I can't yet compare.

Would it be possible to have a large size sent to REI so I can't try it on for size? The medium was perfect, but about 2-3 inches too short.

Other than the length of the shorts is there a difference between the boy and girl Sahara pants? I like the shorter shorts on these but am buying them for my (tall, thin) son (don't tell him I'm buying girl's pants!)

Asked by: cjanyc
The differences are mostly minor. The fly zipper is 1" longer in the boys. The pockets have some differences. The girls have cargo pockets on both sides, the boys only on the right side. The boys have a vertical zippered pocket on the left leg. The boys have drain holes on some of the pockets, the girls do not. The girls di have an internal REI label that is pink. The tag below that states "Girls'".

i wish you would have separate sizes for kids clothes (eg 10, 12, 14, 16). size 14 is what fits me best, but the 14-16 are too big.
