Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible I have bought this heart rate monitor with a Garmin Edge 510 cycling computer and a cadence/speed sensor. I am very happy with the 510 and the c/s sensor. The HRM is another story. It worked somewhat okay during the first 10 days. I had to ensure the electrodes and third area on the strap were wet, that the strap was positioned and tensioned just right. Now, after two weeks, it has become completely unreliable. It will either not work at all or give very bad readings. Considering how expensive this sensor is, it's is an outrage that Garmin would release such a faulty product to the market.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great! I forget it's on! I am riding about 4 times a week and training in specific heart rate zones to prepare for a century I have coming up and got this strap to use with the Garmin heart monitor I had previously. It is nice because a) you can snap the actual heart monitor part off the strap which saves the battery and allows you to machine wash the strap on delicate, and b) thee fabric is softer and more conforming than the regular one that I believe is the base model and is hard plastic. It just makes it more comfortable. The adjustment on it is a little fiddly but nothing terrible. I slide it up under my sports bra band and don't even notice it. I also find that it is more sensitive than the base model that I had before. I haven't had to wet myself down to get it to work yet. I'll get another strap like this if I wear it out.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A nice alternative for my Suunto Watch Great heart rate monitor. Paired instantly with my Suunto Ambit (1st generation). After my Suunto HR monitor finally kicked the bucket I decided to purchase the Garmin HRM 3 based off positive reviews. I was a tad weary with mixed comments about this specific HRM having issues pairing with the Ambit. Tested it in the store (paired instantly) and haven't had an issue since. Also no issues connecting with my ANT+ treadmill. It's accurate, reliable, never has an issue with spiking or not picking up my HR at all. It's not entirely comfortable but the most comfortable HRM I've owned. (Suunto/CatEye) The sides of the strap tend to bunch up on the sides while wearing it but nothing that becomes to uncomfortable. Overall great product and would recommend if looking for an alternative to the Suunto HRM's for your Suunto Watches.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Works sometimes This is the fourth hr strap that I have gotten for my garmin 510. They have all had fairly spotty performance. REI is great in replacing them, but I wished that they just worked. It has been frustrating.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Necessary for accuracy from my Garmin 235 I bought the Garmin 235 about 3 months ago, hoping that the wrist HR monitor would work. It doesn't. During workouts the wrist HR reading races up/down and all over the place. It was completely erratic. I had purchased the 235 because my Timex Ironman had rusted out (third time in 4 years) -- so I pretty much knew what my HR was supposed to be during my workouts. The Garmin wrist HR monitor wasn't even close. On the other hand, the Garmin wireless HR monitor works great -- it was easy to sync and it gives results that are pretty much in agreement with what I used to get with the Timex. Of course, it cost 4 times as much as a single Timex, but since I've already burned up three Ironmen, I figure the Garmin will cost less in the long run ... as long as it has the quality that I've come to expect in other Garmin products.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from More comfortable than previous generation It is more comfortable than the previous generation. It could use something grippy on the strap though. The front, where the sensors are stays in place, but the back tends to slide down my back, even when overly tight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from good update I have had a chest strap Hr monitor for a long time and it has been accurate and with the same battery has lasted for years till I dropped it in the parking lot and a car ran over it. The new silver strap version seems to pick up the HR a little more accurately, but I am getting a rash at the site where the antistatic pad is. This may be something that just applies to me. Overall, a great device that is long lasting.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Does the job, but not going to win any awards. it does what it's supposed to... but for how long? I seem to need a new one every 8 months or so, and I follow the "care" directions to a T. I bought one, and it was defective out of the box, but thanks to REI's wonderful return/exchange policy, I was able to walk in a get a new one.

Is this HRM waterproof? (swimming/pool use)

Asked by: BanjoPicker
The HRM 3 is waterproof but it will not take any heart-rate reading under water. The signal does not transmit from the sensor to the watch when submerged.
