Ok, so I don't write many reviews at all but have to talk bout this boot. I bought these boots in mid March to give plenty of break-in time before hitting the Red River Gorge in KY. I wore these every day to work, short hikes in local park, mowing the yard I mean every day. I DID have the laces start to fail by fraying within about a month, I changed the laces over to Paracord and Have had no issues. I am back from my hiking trip and these things did AWESOME. Feet stayed dry, plenty of support for me with my pack (28 lbs. with water & food) I felt very stable and comfy the entire trip (35 miles). We had a day of rain which meant 2 days of mud and couldn't be happier with these.
I bought these for a trip to Isle Royal and LOVED them. I perfectly broke them in and they were waterproof and comfortable. They do run thin and I have weird feet so the wide version was perfect as I often struggle to find boots that fit properly. They were sllippery on wet rocks but nothing too bad. Today with only about 70 miles on them while lacing them one of the eyelets broke off the leather. Very disappointing as I was hoping to have these boots for years to comes. I have no doubt as they are less than a year old REI will replace them but I am now thinking twice. I have several other pairs of vasque products and I am hoping this is a one off.
Bought a pair of St. Elias GTX (7160) boots two years back at EMS. Took some time to break them in (like most good, durable boots), but I really like the fit not. Everything was going great...hiking, hunting in them, but then one of the upper lace hooks snapped off (the double-rivet - third one down). I tried getting some help from Vasque and did get an initial response (save the email) discussing the one-year warranty, but nothing since (and I have responded back). I just want to get this issue fixed...I can find someone here in CT to do the repair. I was just hoping for a replacement lace hook (or two). It would be great if Vasque offered to repair my boot, but I'll take some guidance, if they can't/won't do the repair themselves. All I'm looking for is some assistance...I don't this this request is unreasonable from a customer service perspective. If I can get this boot repaired properly, I'll take my overall rating up to a 4 or 5. Thanks for listening/reading. Brian C.
We are sorry to hear that the lace hooks have come off of your St. Elias boots. This is something that we can look into. Please feel free to reach out to us at customer.service@vasque.com for further discussion.
I bought the Vasque brand because my father has had a pair since 1985. Yes, 28 years and still fully functional. I am an avid AT backpacker and these boots are meant exactly for that. You instantly feel the quality and craftsmanship when you put these bad boys on. I have been using them everyday and I cannot be anymore content with my purchase. You put up the money and you get the quality when it comes to the Vasque brand. Plain and simple.
I've owned these boots for two years. They've performed well on day hikes and 1-2 night backpacking trips. Construction is solid and supportive. They've always felt a bit narrow in the toe box (typical for leather Vasque boots, in my experience). Not so narrow as to be uncomfortable, until.... a week-long backpacking trip in the Tetons. The two toes on the outside of both of my feet are bruised and blistered from being jammed into this boot's narrow toe box. I will keep these as day-hikers, but I'm moving to something roomier/wider for longer trips. Note - I have normal width feet (D/M). Most shoes fit me fine right out of the retail box.
In all fairness these boots were extremely comfortable and I wore them multiple days each week for 2.5 years. However, the stitching along the heel piece failed suddenly on both boots within a 2 month period. Given the fact that the leather uppers and the soles are still in good condition this failure means that my boots are ruined long before I wore them out. As you can see from the photos the stitching failure was not caused by abrasion of the stitching. I believe that it was caused by movement along the seam. If you had asked me 6 months ago to rate the boots I would have given them 5 stars but now I would not buy another pair.
We are sorry to hear of the stitching failure on your St. Elias boots. That is not what we expect from our boots. Please feel free to reach out to our Customer Service team with a brief description and some pictures of your boots. They can be reached at customer.service@vasque.com.
Been training for Philmont with these boots for 4 months now. I love how sturdy they are, but I worry about them. I've loved the ankle support, but after multiple 8 mile training hikes, I have pre-blister hot-spots and sores after almost every hike. The hot-spots and pre-blisters for me have all appears on the outer edge of the pinky toe. I tried on almost every boot in the store at REI, and I narrowed it down to this boot and the Vasque lighter version for comfort. I bought this boot because it was so much more sturdy. I love the way this boot supports my ankle (and knee), so I won't give it up, but i am definitely packing the moleskin.
I bought these boots in September of 2017, and after I realized I could wear boots on normal days instead of just camping, I wore then every day and they are the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn and are perfectly waterproof. The problems began in March when my left boot made a loud squeaking noise after every other step. I realized recently (may) that the treads are worn down to almost nothing in some places. It may be caused by my job as a dishwasher where I slide to a stop and boot skate around a oily kitchen, but I hoped a 200$ pair of boots would last more than 9 months as good for hiking
I bought these Vasque boots recently and I'm really happy with them. Perhaps my standards are low, for the last 10 years I went hiking with steel toed work boots. I decided to stop being so cheap and by some decent hiking boots. I was concerned when I got the boots that they were a little too tight on my pinky toes. But with some nice merino wool hiking socks my feet felt just fine after 14 miles of the Appalachian Trail over Mt. Greylock in Massachusetts with 4,000 feet of elevation change. No blisters or any rubbing on my feet. Large sections of the trail were just mud or swamp but my feet stayed dry.
Let me first say that I wear these boots every day, and have easily put 1000 miles on them. They feel just as comfortable working outside all day as they do on the trail with a 40LB pack on. They were easy to break in, but were still comfortable during the process. The waterproofing is outstanding! Even trudging around in snow all day they still stay dry. Good traction, and great support. My only complaint is that the laces that come on the boots are terrible! Thin and broke very easily. I swapped them out for longer waterproof laces. I can now wrap them around my ankles for a little added support. Problem solved! These really are great boots. When mine finally kick the bucket, I'll be getting another pair
