Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not Perfect, but Does its Job I bought this right before a 10-day trip when the weather showed it would rain the first 4 days. Turns out, it rained almost every day of the trip and I am SO glad I bought this cover because it kept all covered parts of my pack completely dry...even in a torrential downpour/hail storm. The downsides: - a small hole tore on my first use and I didn't even notice brushing against anything (durability issue). - I bought the 80L for my REI Venus 75L pack and it didn't really cover the whole thing, even though my backpack still had some room in it. Wish I had purchased the 100L.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Used once and worked Last July 2013, coming back down from backpacking and climbing trip to Half Peak and Northwest Pole near Lake City, Colorado, we encountered rain and high winds. Also walked through willow bushes and no damage to the pack cover. The pack cover appeared to perform as expected. It definitely doesn't absorb water as the material isn't capable of absorbing water.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Choice for the Money I looked at four different covers and selected this one as the best choice for weight, size, and price. I use a Deuter ACT Lite 65+10 pack; this 80 liter duck's back cover handles it with considerable room to spare, though I don't over-stuff my pack. If you're using a really stuffed 75 liter pack, I would consider the 100 liter cover. You could probably get the 80 liter to cover it, but you would most likely stress the cover's material. I usually have this cover plus a poncho-tarp, but twice I've had only this in a heavy downpour, and it did the job. The online specs say that it weighs 7.6 ounces, yet I've weighed mine on two different accurate kitchen micro-scales, and it is exactly 6 ounces. So, maybe there is variance in the manufacturing process (and thus 7.6 ounces would be the high side of the variance). In my opinion, this is five stars for the price. You can spend more and get something that is more durable. You can spend more and get something that is lighter. You can spend a whole lot more and get something that is more durable and lighter, but for the money, this is a good general purpose cover.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cover in thailand I needed one of these since I was visiting an area that had flash rain storms. Fast to put on and fast to take off. Compact. It did a good job in the rain but, I wasn't out in the rain for very long. 15-10 max. But it help up well and my pack was bone dry during when I checked after getting out of the rain. I placed the rain cover over my pack when I checked it in for a flight (since I heard of horror stories of straps being cut) and it held up well. couple of light scuffs but, I figure that's pretty impressive for a simple shell.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't waste your money buying anything else I recently bought an Osprey Pack and was quite perturbed that they didn't include a rain cover with the pack (I mean common for the price?). An employee shared the same sentiments and suggested I purchase an REI rain cover for half the price. It wasn't supposed to rain for my trip but, just to be safe I purchased it and low and behold a thunderstorm opened up on our last two miles. I threw this rain cover on and my pack wasn't touched by any sort of moisture except for my back-sweat (ew) but seriously. It's a great rainfly for any size pack, just make sure to ask a rep what size will work best for the pack you have!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy, large, great I love it. Large and fast to get on. When tent started leaking in middle of night I grabbed it to cover top half of me, face, pillow and sleeping bag. Love the attached stuff sack!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works with REI XT85 I used this pack cover for 5 months on the Appalachian Trail with the REI xt85 pack. It worked well with a pair of shoes hanging on the back of the pack. It's a little heavy. They should use better material and skip the sack it comes with.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked perfectly! Had been planning a backpacking trip up at Lake Ingalls. I purchased one of these when the weather forecast started to take a turn for the worst and I sure am glad that I did! The entire hike up to the lake was through heavy wind and heavy downpour. When we got to our campsite, my pack was completely dry, which was a huge relief. I was soaked to the bone through my rain jacket but luckily this rain cover did the job of keeping my pack and contents unaffected by the rain. We were super careful when we put the cover on to make sure there were no gaps at the top and I'm sure that helped.

I have an early 2000 Gregory Palisade...not sure on size. Is this cover big enough for the pack plus a tent strapped to the top/bottom? Thanks in advance.

Asked by: Saphauler
Previous models of the Gregory Palisade pack are at least 80 liters. If you looking to a lash a tent to the outside of your pack, the 100 liter Duck's Back Rain Cover is more than likely the better way to go.

Hi, was wondering if this will work for my Kelty Coyote 80. The things I have outside my pack is a foldable chair and tent poles on the side pockets and tent fly on top. Or should I get the 100?

Asked by: ZBernabe
If you have bulky items on the outside of the pack, we suggest the 100 liter rain cover.

We are archaic packers and still use (and like) external frame packs. I have an REI and my wife has a slightly smaller Kelty. Will these cover external frame packs?

Asked by: mockoman
Since this cover is designed for an internal frame pack, compatibility with external frame packs can only be determined by trial and error.

Will it fit a 65L REI Ridgeline pack with a sleeping pad? I'll be hiking the Inca Trail and there shouldn't be rain in June but I don't want to risk wet gear.

Asked by: Anonymoose1
The 80 liter Duck's Back Rain Cover is the right size when carrying bulky gear on the outside of a 65 liter pack.

Would the ducks back 80 liter cover be a better fit for a gregory baltora 70 backpack with attached sleeping pad, or should I go for the 100 liter version?

Asked by: steveoz
The 80 liter rain cover is sufficient for your backpack and sleeping pad.

Would this be a good fit for a Medium North Face Base Camp Duffel?  I need something to help protect the duffel from the elements when it is tied to a mule.  Other suggestions would also be welcome.  Thank you.

Asked by: Thomas P
The large Sea to Summit Pack Converter Duffle Bag is a better choice for the medium The North Face Base Camp Duffel.

Would this fit on the Osprey Aether 85 pack?

Asked by: isaacs
This rain cover is too small for the Aether 85. The XL Osprey UltraLight Pack Raincover or the 100 liter REI Co-op Duck's Back Rain Cover are better choices. https://www.rei.com/product/855431/rei-co-op-ducks-back-rain-cover-100-liters https://www.rei.com/product/878469/osprey-ultralight-pack-raincover-x-large
