Not the quality I’m used to
I’ve always bought my kids Columbia snow pants and jackets. This will be the last time for me. The snow pants are coming apart at the bottom, and the jacket is ripping apart on both sleeves. It’s disappointing because my son’s last Columbia set lasted him 2 winters and would’ve lasted another if he didn’t outgrow it.
Good but runs small
I bought an XS for my 6-year old son with the expectation that he can use them again next year. He's very thin and around the 50th percentile for height. The XS is supposed to be for sizes 6/7, but at best I'd say that it's more of a 5/6. The legs seem OK on him, and maybe with the grow cuff we'll get them to work next year, but my concern is the torso portion. There isn't much room to adjust the shoulder straps. So moral of the story is that you should size up. Size concerns aside, these have been great bibs as far as I can tell. He's been out to play in the snow several times, and he's come back dry each time. He even went out to play on one of those polar vortex cold days and didn't complain at all about being cold. He stays warm and dry. For that reason I would recommend these bibs. Just get the right size!
Great for growing kids
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My son is now very active at 2 years old and loves to play in the snow. We live in northern Wisconsin where the winters can be very rough so when we have time we like to spend it outdoors as much as we can. These snow bibs keep him nice and warm and dry. I love the added feature of the Velcro waist adjustment to allow the bibs to grow with him to be able to get more use. The extra guards on the knees are a nice feature as well since boys are rough on their clothes. I would highly recommend these over any other snow bibs out there. I searched high and low for something of better quality and for the money you can’t get any better than Columbia.
Nice snow pants
Kids have worn these outside with no snow several times, crawling around, jumping, rolling in the dirt (don't ask, ugh), and they've held up very nicely. I ordered 4 sizes, 3 sizes for my boys, and one size for me. Very comfy. Partially lined with fleece. Warm when we were casually walking in 15f windy weather, layered with wool leggings and the kids had cotton leggings. Note- you layer according to your climate...I am no pro.
Tight
My son is a size 10- 10/12 so based off of the size chart, I bought him a medium. They JUST fit his torso (length wise) with zero room to grow (straps fully loosened). They also would not even zip! I thought no big deal, wrong sizing. So I exchanged them for the next size up (a large). Height wise, there was plenty of space for him to grow into however, they still would barely zip up. My son had to suck in his belly in order for them to zip (even with the outgrown piece undone). Will be returning and shopping elsewhere. Apparently the makers of these snow bibs think that the only way children grow is in length and every child is skin and bones.
Runs small! Order size up!
I ordered a M for my 9 year old son. He is 56" tall and well within the 55-59" range and weight range given in the size chart. The legs were just long enough but the torso is too short. Major wedgie and no room for longer adjustment in the strap. Now I have to pay for shipping to exchange.
Poor fit for my guy
The sizing just didn't work for my slim, average height six year old. They were way too slim in one size and then way too long in the next size up. I wish REI made their 'Timber Mountain' style bibs in sizes larger than 4T - those were the best!
Warm and Dry
My son has worn these bibs for several days of playing in the snow and snowball fights. He's stayed warm, dry and comfortable no matter what the weather or his friends thew at him.
Great for a day in the snow
I bought these for my nephew, who is a slim, tall 9-year-old. He wore them for a day in the snow in the Los Padres Forest. He sledded, threw snowballs, made a snowman and stayed dry and warm. They were a tad long, but not too long to be a hindrance--and it will give him room to grow. I did not find them too narrow.
Great Bibs for the Price
We buy new snow pants it seems every year. Both for playing in the snow and for snowboarding/skiing. These fit well and I will continue to buy this brand. The cuff at the bottom keeps the snow out and the velcro on the sides allows you to tailor the fit. They also have seams you can cut to extend the length.
