This is actually 7" (18cm) in diameter. What's listed here and on S2S website is the base diameter when expanded.

Cool product with a short lifespan.

Product is very lightweight and portable, however it didn't even last one season. Purchased in May 2013 and by September it had a 3.5" tear in the silicone sidewall. Only used it a few times for car camping and day hikes. I won't be purchasing a replacement.

Completely Worthless

Been wanting something like this for years, finally remembered to buy a couple. What a complete disappointment! This bowl is worthless. The silicone on BOTH of them (we bought two) started getting holes/cuts/slits in it after one use. One use! Keeping them collapsed in a crate where they aren't being rubbed/cut/etc so storage wasn't an issue. After a month of car camping with them and using them very sparingly and only with plastic spoon silverware, they are completely destroyed. Impossible to even identify how this happened except that simply the act of collapsing them causing them to tear and rip. Just a garbage product, a complete disappointment, as we have many other Sea to Summit products (including my favorite and most reliable sleeping pad of all time) and they've all been great. This is just garbage and indefensible.

Iffy in some circumstances

Pros: Nice stored form factor, the bottom is very sturdy and insulates from heat Cons: Collapsing can occur on its own in some cases, or by accident when you're using it, which can be very dangerous if it's full of boiling water. Handing a bowl off to another person is a yikes if they aren't aware the walls can collapse, so extra care must be used when handling--great when you're bone-tired and not paying attention. The silicone also LOVES to hold on to lint, hairs, and other particles. It's more difficult to clean than a firm sided bowl due to the ridges. I'll still use the bowls when I'm not around other people and really need space in my bag, otherwise I'll bring my rigid bowl.

easy use, easy clean

Perfect -- we needed a simple bowl option for road trips, car camping, and other travel, and this was it! I've packed it in suitcases for making a quick hotel breakfast that's better than what's served in the lobby, and it's been on road trip adventures and more. Cleans easily, sturdy, and collapses flat. Has also served as an extra make-do plate when needed. Nothing bad to say and could probably stand much more extreme settings than we've needed it for, but totally worth the price for the durability and packability.

Not Durable

I bought this to use on a recent 10-day backpacking trip, hoping to not have to eat out of an aluminum mug the whole time. Unfortunately, by the second day holes had been worn in the the thin folded silicone part of the bowl (probably from rubbing the inside of my pack), making it unusable as a bowl. The holes only grew along the weaker folds throughout the rest of the trip. Maybe I got a defective bowl, but something intended for outdoor use should not be so fragile.

We Love All the Collapsible Cookware/Dinnerware

We are mainly car campers and have been making an effort to reduce the size of our camp kit. We love all of the Sea to Summit collapsible products. They pack up small and light. Most will nest together easily enough and are easy to pack for air travel as well. We've found them to be tough and durable dragging them to Yellowstone, Grand Teton and multiple trips to Shenandoah National Park this year. The XL bowl is great for mixing up pancake batter in the morning or for eating hot oatmeal. They fit easily into a backpack if you want to spoil yourself with something to eat out of besides your cooking pot.

Space savers

Got these collapsible bowls for use in our RV in order to save space. They work great. You do have to be careful to not press down on edge when expanded so you don’t accidentally flatten out your full container. But once you’re aware of that they work great.

Buy the bowl

I love this bowl so much. I made the mistake of placing it over an open fire thinking it was heat resistant enough for that... I was wrong. The base is heat resistant, but not THAT heat resistant. The bottom side is excellent for cutting and I typically use it as my cutting board for spam. It cleans easily, takes up minimal space, and "ages" well.

XL multi purpose bowl

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] XL-Bowl Works well, compact, fits in my pack easily. I can also use the bottom for food prep etc. I may have to order another because my dog has claimed this one.
