Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good solution.... I needed a bike rack for my Jeep Wrangler. Roof racks and hitch racks are out.. A roof rack won't because I own a soft top that is never even on during mountain bike season (read sunny and warm), a hitch rack won't work because I have oversized tires on my Jeep, and the don't come out far enough, simply the won't fit around my tires. This hitch works perfectly. I was worried because the box said it would fit all stock tires. I need not have worried. I didn't even need to use the extensions that came with it. I'd guess a person could use this on a tire in excess of 15" wide, which is extremely rare. Bottom line, very happy.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Depends on your bikes I use this on a Jeep, needed something simple that would allow me to open the rear gate - it works perfectly for that - mounts easily with spare tire. However, the arms that hold the bikes are wider than trail-hitch mounted Thule models, as a result while it works great for road bikes, it does not "work" out-of-the-box for (my) mountain bikes or hybrids. I bought two of the Thule extender bars to use with it - this works well for most bikes (but some MTBs simply won't fit). So, if possible, should test your bikes on one first - if they fit, it works great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love this thing, never take it off Got this for my girlfriend's Jeep and we use it all the time. Took me a little bit to install, but I didn't read the directions very closely either. My girlfriend can get her bike (53cm) by herself, but I don't think it would work for a much smaller bike and definitely not a step-through, as the cradles are a little too big. The lock is a great idea, but not real easy to get on and off. They could have spent a little more on that. Oh, and the straps should be built in with a buckle or Velcro or something. I ended up buying some Velcro straps, so much easier than the pull straps that came with it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Gets the job done! Used on the (oversized) spare tire of my FJ Cruiser. Fit well and kept the bikes up high enough that I was able to tow my trailer without the bike tires hitting it. Easy to use and no issues after 1000 miles with a bike on it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Make sure your bicycle will fit Women's designed road bikes will NOT fit this carrier, the arms of the bike rack are too far apart. Not talking about a ladies bike that does not have the top rail - this is a standard road bike design with top bar, but made for women who tend to have shorter torsos and so the bike is not as wide. The adapter bar doesn't assist in this case. If you do a search on the internet for reviews, this problem is stated and known, so the manufacturer must know about it as well. My bicycle is a Cannodale Synapse alloy 51 cm. The Yakima brand spare tire rack holds my bike, no problem.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Beware, not for small adult or fat tube mtn. bikes Because of the huge brackets the bikes rest on and the width of the mounting bars, you will need 18" of top tube clearance with at least 4" of vertical clearance at the front tube (fork tube) at the 18" mark. I have a aluminum, medium frame Cannondale (17" seat tube) that barely squeezes between the bars. Forget about women's or small frame mountain bikes. Road bikes and skinny tube bikes are going to be less of a problem, but who puts road bikes on the back of a Jeep? Also, this particular rack was defective. The cable lock on the rack was cut too short and doesn't reach (misses by at least 6") the stud it locks onto. I expect better from Thule; they generally build decent bike racks.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great rack, lousy cable lock This is a great rack for my jeep application, however the cable lock is more then disappointing. The cable lock failed in the locked position after a few use's. In trying to remove the bike I found the cable ends are held in place by a 1/4" long sheet metal screw, anybody with small pliers on an army knife can defeat this lock in less than a minute! I still use and like the rack; just removed the silly cable lock and capped the tubing. I now use my bicycle cable lock to the spare tire.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great I got this a little while ago to carry my bike on a Toyota RAV 4. Installation was simple and it works great. No complaints.

For my 2006 Honda CRV, the spare is off-center. You say the rack will fit but does it adjust so the bikes end up centered on the car or are the bikes left off-center?

Asked by: BreckBiker
Thule's fit guide states that the Spare Me 2 Bike Rack will fit your 2006 Honda CR-V. The user manual also states: "This carrier fits all standard OEM rear-mounted spare tires combinations currently available with the exception of spare tires with a tire-mounted back-up camera." The Spare Me is equipped with 3 different mounting holes for vehicles that have a spare tire that is offset to the left or right.

Has anyone put this rack on a Jeep Wrangler with P255 size tires?I have tried every combination of mounting brackets and standoffs and I cant get the locking knob to screw in far enough tobe flush with the plate. It sticks out and the rack shakes

Asked by: amwMSU
The Spare Me rack is designed to accommodate the stock P255 tires on a Jeep Wrangler, so it is difficult to identify a potential problem. Feel free to give us a call at (800) 426-4840 to troubleshoot.

Would this bike rack (the Thule Spare Me 2 Bike Rack) work with a 2003 Honda CR-V?  The spare tire on this model of CR-V is off-center to the right (passenger side) of the car.  I haven't measured how far off-center.

How do you find out which vehicles this bike rack fits?

Asked by: kestrelkate
Using the Thule Fit Guide is the best way to determine what vehicles this rack is compatible with: Be sure to include the year/make/model of your vehicle and click the "Spare tire" box. If the item will work for your vehicle, it will appear in the suggestions.
