Perfect for a compact city car

This rack is perfect for someone who needs to have a rack at all times but also needs to park in the city. You can fold down the arms when not in use and the extra support that attaches to the bike frame gives the reassurance that your bike will not be going anywhere no matter how far to your destination. I would definitely recommend this product to someone who also drives a compact car. I have not tried it on any other vehicles but I picked this product after seeing it on a vehicle in a parking lot. The various settings ensure an appropriate fit for your vehicle. I did notice that there are some vehicles that may not be compatible while I was reading the manual, so it might be a good idea to check online to be sure it works for your car, but there were definitely more cars that were compatible than not.

Decent product overall

This product seems to work great for local trips. I have used it a few times now and only going short distances (8-15 miles) seems to work just fine. However I had this on the highway and one of the rubber straps that go over your cross member (the one holding up the back of the bike) kept coming undone causing my bike to flail (luckily not fall off the back of my car. This happened twice. I finally used a few extra tow straps I had in the car to better tighten it down. All in all a decent product for the money, I would just recommend extra fastening if you plan on going on the highway or doing a long distance trip.

Horrible design

We used this bike one time other than to bring our new bikes home from REI. On what should've been a round trip drive of 1.5 hours to meet family, but turned out to be twice as long, we had to stop 5 times to re-secure our bikes. We ended up having to take back roads to return home because we were afraid to drive at highway speed. the flimsy plastic doesn't hold bikes securely. They came unbuckled FIVE times and flopped against my car, causing scratches to our brand new bikes and my car's trunk. And yes, we followed the directions. Thankfully REI has a great return policy!

Good Quality, But Can Be Difficult to Use

I have used my bike rack several times now, and while it seems simple enough to get set up and attached to the trunk, it can be difficult. Even though Thule rates this rack to work with my car, it is difficult to get the straps to stay so you can close the trunk lid and thus lock the straps in place. Once it is all put together, I have no complaints. It is a very solid product that gets the job done.

Simple to use.

I bought this rack a few weeks ago and am very happy with it. As a single woman, I was concerned about the weight of some of the hitch racks so I decided to go with this one instead. I'm so happy I did! It's not too heavy and it's easy to put on and take off my Subaru Outback wagonvery happy with this purchase.

much better products out there...

Generally, its pretty easy to set up the first time. But the excessively long straps and lack of anything to tie them down make it a pain to take on and off as often as I need to. I also noticed a huge scratch on my road bikes seat tube that I originally thought came from my pump... Later on realizing it came from the completely unpadded anti-sway cage on this thing. Thanks Thule, u really thought that one out well... Yakima makes better products...

Good rack for cars and compacts

Fits properly on a 2009 Civic (Sedan) as advertised. Instructions are a little confusing, lots of cross-reference (i.e. "for cars on list 2 go to page 92"). Once installed and fit to your car it is easy enough to remove and reinstall without needing the instructions. Feels fairly secure, in fact, secure enough - at first it's hard to believe those rubber are capable of being so secure. Once you strap them in, you realize that they're quite capable. Note that you're recommended against opening and closing the trunk as it may damage the vehicle, but it did not obstruct my car on this installation, do be careful to not get hit by the rack when closing the trunk (if you choose to ignore their warning in the user manual).

Bike Rack

Very easy to initially place on car and to use. Our first bike rack and mounting instructions were very clear. Very sturdy, bikes do not move when in place.

Perfect 4 road bikes, NG 4 heavier Hybrids or MTBs

Perfect 4 road bikes, NG 4 heavier Hybrids or MTBs I love the desgn of this rack. It folds up to a size that's easy to store and fits a wide range of vehicles, including my 2014 VW Sportwagen. Looks great too, though of course that's not a reason to buy it. There's a downside though. Even though our biks are within the 70 LB rating, I couldn't bring myself to trust the plastic cogs that lock the arms in place. Also, it doesn't hold the inner bike very far off the back of my Sportwagon, so I'd have to use some sort of padding to protect the car. Sadly, I'm going to have to go with a hitch/rack combo.
